''Ah, Lieutenant! It is an honor to be gifted by your presence on these dark times since those damn space enviromentalists stepped in to try and shut down our company due to space pollution and apparently our laser beams can cause some sort of numerous biological diseases, unfortunately, I gotta give them credit since this company is going to shut down... We still have some months before this place closes so we decided to use the rest of the funds on this little experiment to change their minds, our engineers detected on the radar some sort of unfriendly alien mothership sending numerous space fleets towards Earth, your mission is to neutralize these threats and your spacecraft's weaponry will be bouncing asteroids off, a more enviroment friendly option. I understand that you have doubts but there is no time for such, get ready as soon as you can, you will be leaving by midnight and God have mercy upon you.''
Story:
Spotting from miles away alien life incoming to invade Earth and apparently resistant to modern weaponry, our lads decided to utilize medieval tactics and strategies to defeat this threat in hope to destroy the source and kick their bottoms back to their planet.
Gameplay:
Based on a famous arcade game, ''Abstractanoid'' is an arkanoid inspired retro styled game, somewhat different from the original game in terms of visuals and mechanics, the story tells of an alien invasion on mankind, where the player is tasked to repel such threat by lauching and ricocheting asteroids with a surprising amount of 50 levels with its own different diffilculty setting and 3 lifes to help you. About the controls, it isn't difficult to master since it relies on your mouse with the flexibility of your wrist and just one button from the keyboard, which just speeds the gameplay for speedrunners, other than that, the game has got its very own powerup system consisted of upgrades to help, for example, ''Power ball'', ''Energy shot'', ''One more life'' and so on, as well it features downgrades to slightly increase the difficulty such as ''Small bat'',''One less life'', ''Oh no!'' and much more, each and one of these can be encountered randomly throughout the progression of the levels. As I mentionned in the beginning, the retro visuals in this game has got the actual feel of an arcade game, even though some of the music tracks might not give away that feeling at first, still is looking cool with the variety of colors of the different classes of the enemie's spaceships and to mention that there is some few different designs of the enemies that randomly generates when the level starts and since the developer is a good guy, everytime you lose or win the level, you are greeted by a sarcastic comment, there's a ton of variety and some even use your Steam nickname, either way, it is good to see differences such as these. In case the 50 levels isn't enough for you, there's also a custom levels, where you can customize and create levels at your own liking, everything is at your disposal, the height and length may affect the number of enemies placed but the powerups are not involved in customizing and will drop randomly by certain spaceships. Also, you can add one of the many difficulties of the main game's levels for your creation. Like every other game within Steam's boundaries, this one features your small regular achievements, just like an arcade game with unlockables, it's your regular how many spaceships you destroyed, how many times you died and how many asteroids you lost, both easy and it isn't time consuming.
Error/Glitches/Bugs Report:
Too many problems that I encountered during my gameplay of this game, first off, there seems to be a problem with hitboxes, both on the platform that you are using and the enemies, the game seems to not register and the ball goes through the enemies and the same happens with the powerups were it goes through the platform when you press the spacebar, second off, there's a slight chance that the ball gets stuck on the edge of the boundaries of the level, it's slim but it can happen, third off and last, there's a small issue with the Steam overlay, maybe it's on my computer but nevertheless, I wouldn't consider it a big issue.
Overall:
For most of my life, pixel and arcade games always had a place in my heart, I grew up along side some ''forgotten'' titles such as ''Parasite Eve II'', ''Alone in the Dark'', ''Medievil'' and much more... Sadly I didn't played ''Resident Evil'' back in the day. Before I can make my opinion on this game, let me remind you that a problem occured and the developer lost all of the game's data, in short words, the game is raw but that doesn't mean that I personally enjoyed the experience, however there are some issues that made said experience unpleasent, mainly it consists of the hitboxes and the ball clipping through enemies which represents a problem to the difficulty applied on the level, speaking of it, I find the difficulty levels to be good and weird, from my understanding, it should start from easy and it'll get harder the more you progress, don't get me wrong, the enemies gets tougher and the speed of the ball slightly increases but I see that there are some enemies that uncommonly gets used throughout the levels and the cheer abundance of them decreases the difficulty of it due to the game not registering the hitboxes sometimes, for me the only levels where I found difficulty was levels 47 to 49, low abundance of enemies scattered across with the unique ones and are more tougher. One thing I like and always will, is the retro style in this game, the design of the enemie's spaceship is good, it's really awesome while the custom levels was a cool addition to the game, fun fact, there was going to be Steam workshop around it and so far nobody won my custom level, not even me! One thing I will never forget, is the sarcastic comments that appears wherever you lose or win the level, the developer may die, but his comments shall live in this game... The big question is, would I recommend it? I liked the game despite being in a way incomplete but this is mainly debatable, I say this as in, this is my perspective and opinion on the game, many might or not agree, I am fine with it and I respect it, I would recommend it, it was fun, enjoyable and the custom levels was one of the best for me. a short and small casual game for in between. overall its alright. a couple of traps and upgrades to collect. cool music to the game. the price of the game is in offer -65% alright. all achievements work.
Look, I'm all for encouraging people to learn to code, and if games are what draws them to the craft then great, but this would be barely passable as freeware. To charge even a penny for it is too much. The ball moves at least three times too slowly and never speeds up. The enemies are too far away from the player and never move. The collision detection only looks at one pixel colour. The paddle sends balls at extreme angles if you're more than a pixel or two off-centre. Even if I were to fix all these flaws, there's still not enough meat in here to be called a saleable game.
This game is so bad, it makes me want to cry
Abstractanoid is a Brick Breaker game. The game features quite a lot of levels, very good chiptune music and satisfying sound effects/graphics. I think the game could've used more detailed backgrounds, but other than that, it looks authentic. I love brick breaker games and having played quite a bit of them, I do think this one is pretty good, especially considering it's price. The gameplay is fluid and the only bug I've found is that sometimes the ball randomly pierces through blocks when fast-forwarding. I'm really a fan of the music too. The little texts when you win or die are also well thought, some of them are references and some are just downright funny. Weird that the achievements for losing are harder than the ones for winning, but oh well. Overall, fun little Brick Breaker game, don't see any negatives to it!
Abstractanoid
"TOO" expensive for games like this .. but if you love retro-style and want to play something classic ,You should buy this game at a discount (TIP: If you think that ball is too slow you can hold "Space bar" to increase its speed)
Story: non Existent Combat: Does hitting bricks count? Characters:none Multiplayer:none World : 5/10 ? Visual 6/10 that is not so bad Sound: 5/10 Bugs: none Rage: Did not feel any Price:I guess it is a Meh I would say a 5/10 Gave me 33 minutes of fun
Way beyond simplistic and dull. There is simply no joy of watching ball goes up and down with snail speed. Power-ups feel useless, levels are too repetitive, there is no challenge whatsoever. Pro tip: hold space for double speed (but it won't make game any better). 4/10
