june 2023 edit: some fixes and quality of life improvements happened, edited parts of the review. abridge is a minimalist sokoban. push blocks with symbols around with the goal of getting rid of them all by shoving them through a black hole kinda thing. 93 levels divided into 11 sets. solving only a few (or half at most) is enough to open the rest and the next batch, very generous. sometimes those few are unlocked one by one, other times the whole set is at your disposal. the first couple levels of a pack are dead easy, the rest not so much, and I assume most or all of them are necessary for the final pack, I didn't get that far. no timer or move limit but there's an optional move counter and lots of stats, including the number of steps, undos and resets, completion times, etc. neat if you're into data. an optional tutorial shows basic controls. symbols represent abilities, they aren't just for show. everybody can push multiple blocks, but ones with a triangle/arrow only move in one direction, squares in cardinal directions, diamonds diagonally, circles also in the four main directions and are sticky and can push and pull. corrupt blocks are interesting, they leave a trail of blocks behind. mirrored ones are annoying (for me anyway), as they unsurprisingly mirror each other's movement. 'x' blocks, much like myself, are lazy bastards and don't move unless pushed. controls aren't rebindable. the mouse is needed to select/deselect pieces but doesn't move them. I think 100% mouse controls would work just fine, click to select and move and/or drag. wasd/arrows move instead and there are diagonal alternatives if you don't want to press two keys at the same time. 'u' and backspace are undo, though in this case, with both kb+m necessary, another one closer to wasd would be nice. they can be held to take back more steps. controller is also supported. there's a key for reset and leaving the level but can't simply pause the game. since it's all turn-based and completion time is only for pointless stats, it's not a dealbreaker, but there should still be a pause menu. reset and exit can be set to be instant or held to avoid accidents, but instant exit should still have a confirmation pop-up. menu navigation works with keyboard or mouse (and I assume controller). clean presentation with a nice selection of background music, but graphics can glitch out after reset or undo, white tiles turn grey or red with symbols intact, or completely black, the latter makes puzzling unintentionally difficult. these hopefully got fixed in v1.5. settings are plentiful but also lacking. the former is what I like to see even in a relatively simple and minimalist game like this, the latter is what I usually get. resolutions, windowed mode, v-sync, but only separate sound and music toggles, no volume settings, yet unity volume setting tools are in the credits, wtf? toggles not mentioned already are for camera shake, backgrounds and the entire level complete screen, which is off by default for some reason. would be nice to have a 3rd, static setting for backgrounds, not just 'off' or 'on and constantly moving'. and unfortunately, settings aren't available while playing a level. I predictably got stuck embarrassinly early on, but the way levels unlock, I could progress and go back when I realized what I'd missed on level 3 (three!). that's not to say I managed a whole lot of the rest, but I still played what I was capable of (unlocked 10 packs and completed more than half of the levels), only to find out the closing credits are unskippable. then I was told they aren't, just too finicky to skip easily. it would be pretty good stuff, but with all these issues it's barely recommendable and only on sale, as long as you like less trivial sokobans with a twist. hopefully the developer will put in extra work to sort out at least some of the annoyances and provide a better overall experience. also, it works on win7, despite the store page minimum of win10.
Target Audience: Those wanting a mental challenge, but don't need the pizzaz Summary: Solid in the puzzle area. Understands the sokoban sub-genre and pushes the design with restrictive puzzle design that makes the player look at it and makes them realize the solution if they are paying attention to how the pieces come together. Granted, with no hint system, newer players here may struggle and may get frustrated, but enough attempts may finally reveal the solution thanks to the type of game it is. Some of these solutions are clever and do make me smile in terms of smart puzzle design. There's also a reasonable amount of puzzles for the price of puzzles here, as the harder puzzles will push even veteran players. Smart sound design also helps in giving you a quick answer on why something may not be working Granted, the game is focused straight up on the puzzle design: the presentation is simple almost to a fault: almost feeling sterile to a certain extent. It's functional and that's great, but it doesn't exactly draw the eye even on a successful puzzle completion, and could have been a little more fun without taking away from that. It also may feel like a mobile game to some at first: but the puzzle design is definitely designed for a PC environment based on puzzle layouts (squares over oblong). It may not compare to games like Baba is You, but does the job that it needs to to be worth your time. Will it blow you away? No. But it's solid and will make you think, and for puzzle players that's probably what you're looking for anyway. Review Video: https://youtu.be/N4DL5Ux2F7c Lists: Positives:

Great puzzle design that focuses you to think, but isn't frustrating to the extreme.
More complex concepts really add to the basics well without turning the game into something completely different. Restraint was used despite pushing the logic.
Smart sound design that gives you the information you need and uses appropriate volumes to identify the things you need to know more.
Undo system is needed and cleanly implemented. Like the fact that no redo button was put in (forcing you to think about how you got back to a particular solution).
Follows the KISS principle well.
Negatives:

Lacking oompf from a presentation standpoint. Feels like a hospital: functional, workable, but sterile. Despite being a great puzzler at heart, will rely on word of mouth alone to get people to buy.
Would have been nice to have a hint button, or some general descriptions/thought patterns to help push the player toward the solution without possibly looking up a guide that exists at some point down the road.
Stats for moves/minimum moves needed and completion time would have been nice to see.
If you want more reviews/information regarding games I've reviewed, visit my curator.
Have you ever been in those situations where you find a cute game from a genre you like, pick it up despite the lack of reviews, start playing it not expecting much but then get so engrossed with it that your whole weekend seems to disappear in a flash? If so then you'll probably understand why I hold this game in such a high regard. Sokoban as a genre has had its fair share of clones and how could it not. It's a top down perspective game where you essentially move blocks to their right position. This time such blocks behave in certain ways that are quickly explained and can be explored through puzzles in different sections. Furthermore, it's not as if you need to complete all of them to beat the game so after 10 sections the credits roll and your first objective is done. So what happens when you continue? Let me tell you. If you're going for full completion you'll notice that some levels start to get tricky and employ mechanics you may or may not have picked up on either by experimenting or by accident. The way certain blocks can push each other and sometimes trigger chain reactions can be the key to your solution. But the most important part is how once it clicks you can feel genuinely satisfied about your accomplishment because you can be sure that you got to the expected solution logically. Moreover, in my experience there were at least 5 puzzles where I was urging for there to be a guide with hints about their solution, one in particular coming at the very end. There weren't any so I gave myself more time to ponder about it, started trying out different strategies until it worked. The one I was the most impressed about was 10-9 and once you solve you'll probably get what i mean. In any case, aside from the engaging gameplay aspect there's not much to say about its simplistic presentation. It just fits a game that is more focused on creating a thinking atmosphere than anything else. The music wasn't bothering at all and the hidden achievements were a fun little diversion to have. Sokoban lovers, puzzle lovers, tell me why haven't you tried this one out yet.
@eventidegs's Abridge is another Sokoban featuring unusual, innovative mechanics. Lacks extra QoL features - would love to see scoring based on turns to beat a level and a better unlock system. The puzzles are solid though. Nice difficulty curve with ability to skip some levels. Abridge is a sokoban variant that has you control multiple pieces each with direction limitations. It allows for interesting, layered puzzles. Huge game with 90 levels. No frills but cleanly presented. Surprisingly, this game doesn't have more reviews. It's challenging sometimes but oh so satisfying when you finally solve it. Thankfully, you only need to solve half the levels to progress to the next set. The tile abilities or limitations introduced on each set are very original. The bonus levels are easy but quite fun. I highly recommend it.
Played on Steam Deck. Nice sokoban, good and challenging while being simple and intuitive. Could use some background music.
全成就撒花*★,°*:.☆( ̄▽ ̄)/$:*.°★* 。机制有趣,关卡设计很优秀,喜欢推箱子解谜游戏的十分推荐入手~
This game is a really fun take on Sokoban-like mechanics! The gameplay has many interesting mechanics that work together to form some really tough puzzles. You do not have to complete many puzzles to unlock the next puzzle set, so if you are stuck on a puzzle, you still have much freedom to try other mechanics and puzzles. I am still working through some of the tougher ones myself! In addition, the music is very calming, and the design is simple but fitting. The mechanics are easy to understand, so difficulty comes with the puzzles themselves rather than a lack of understanding. I would recommend this game if you like fun and challenging puzzles.
