If you are prone to motion sickness, beware! Equipment: Valve Index (not supported) Playing Position: The first negative thing happens when you start the game. After I positioned myself sitting in an office chair with armrests (one would think that this would be ideal for this game, but nah) in the middle of my play area in a way that both controllers are not covered by the chair, I thought that now I should be in the best possible playing position. Nope. The game starts into the menu and twists your position for no apparent reason by at least 45 degrees. There is no way to reset that position. Talking about resetting your position. You can reset your height ingame by pressing the A button (the height of the wheelchair itself is adjusted separately). You need this to get the position of the chairs steering joystick in a position, where you can use it without twisting your wrist, but as soon as you switch to the menu, it resets to the lowest position again. So every time you open the menu, your setting is gone. Menu: Speaking of the menu. You can’t press buttons properly, because you can only grip, but not point, as Index-users are used to. Also there is no “exit menu” button, You only can press “load game” – or exit game 😉. Not a good design choice. Did no tester ever want to get back to the game? Locomotion: My biggest disappointment was the locomotion part, because the principal idea of locomotion by means of a wheelchair seemed an interesting new concept. Right now it is almost unplayable, because some of the issues mentioned above, e.g. if your gripping and releasing the steering stick or the wheelchairs wheels isn’t registered properly, the chair will still roll after you stopped pushing. For me this was the main reason for motion sickness in this game, because you don’t expect any more motion and then it constantly pushes you to the side. I had to turn on everything, vignetting, stepped turning and teleportation to not get motion sick almost instantly. It is a bit better now with everything turned on but still bad and clunky (too slow with steering stick, too inaccurate with pushing the wheels by hand). Conclusion: The basic idea that this game is built on (its locomotion) is executed the worst. I played, or at least tried to play this game on Valve Index. The lack of support is a real pain. I do not understand, why you would have excellent graphics and mechanics and an overall well done game and not have it support the best VR kit there is at the moment. But still, this could be quite a good game if those flaws are ironed out. P.s.: For all of you who got stuck in the tutorial with swapping to the grabbing tool: the game only registers the task completed, when it is done with the RIGHT thumb stick, NOT the left. Also you have to open your hands completely, because even the lightest grip position will prevent you from swapping tools.
tldr; Good game, bad choice for new vr players who like horror atmosphere. I was a beta tester of this game. In October, there were no features that could eliminate motion sickness, and then I had a very big problem with it. My feedback was only about motion sickness... I survived 20 min of playing, and i couidn't say much about other features but all bugs and any problem i found were fixed. Today I came back to this game, and it's much better about that. I surviverd today 40 min of playing this game, but i bet i could play for longer, but last time i didn't have time to use my vr(3-4 months) so i wasn't prepared to play this game. Ok, to the point. My PC/VR specifications: ryzen 2600 16gb ram ddr4 1660 TI 6GB Oculus Quest(First Version) Connected with Virtual Desktop app Performance: The game ran smoothly. I got 1 moment when my framerate was close to 0, but then i think my wheelchair got stcuk in something. Virtual desktop on Oculus Quest: I had only problem with hands, they are rotated in the wrong direction, after few minutes it wasn't problem anymore. Pros: -atmosphere -Works on Oculus Quest really nice(Virtual Desktop[Wireless gaming!!]) -Graphics(first 2 locations for now) -all problems i found as beta tester were fixed, tested today :D -idea -wheelchair mechanics -recordings! -Francisco Goya painting in first room after tutorial :D Cons: -in 40 min of gameplay i got stuck one time in something, not much annoying, unstucking was automatic but still not friendly -If someone dont want to use any feature that prevents motion sickness in this game, to feel the game better, even if u dont have problems with most of standing games you will have problem here, that means next level of resistance to motion sickness -Most of game is dark, not like on screenshots -if you wont know where to go, exploring map on wheelchair can be annoing
One of the best horror games ive played in vr Great atmosphere Great Audio Great puzzles
The game is creepy but it could have been so much better if I wasnt forced into a wheelchair. The clunky controls is what made me quit the game
Had to give up on this one. The wheelchair movement was just too much for me and caused a great deal of nausea. Using the wheelchair also made exploration too awkward and unenjoyable. There were also some major frame rate drops when entering a new room and I found the gameplay to be rather dull. Overall, I didn't enjoy my time spent with this game.
It looks good. But the movement is wonky and doesn't jibe well with the gameplay. Enemies are janky, as is detection and pathing. Overall it just wasn't fun.
Well........... First of all, what can i say...WOW!!! This game is great!! Very scary, the graphics really look good. I am still following the story...i think.! Being in a chair leaves you with nowhere to hide or run. Go for it.... get it. Will update this review again later.
Eigentlich ein tolles Spiel, gruselige Umgebung und nette Atmosphäre. Allerdings macht die Steuerung trotz vielen Einstellungen alles zunichte! Furchtbare Fortbewegung mit Motion Sickness Garantie!
