Wow :) wieder eine kleine für mich unbekannte Indie-Perle gefunden. Vielen Dank für das Entwickeln!
Beautiful and atmospheric and with a killer soundtrack that enhances the nostalgic 80's theme. The enemies are a bit annoying since you don't always get enough time to shoot or run and the puzzles are a little bit too repetitive. But I'm glad I have played [b]A Void Hope[\b] and it's great to see a pixel game at this professional level from a small Gothenburg indie studio. Good job [b]Elden Pixels![\b]
A Void Hope presents a melancholic urban decay, where the evocative pixel art aesthetic is bolstered by an eerie and awesome soundtrack. This sonic layering ensures each area feels distinct, drawing the player deeper into a world where memories serve as the primary catalyst for unravelling a poignant, character-driven mystery. Exploration relies upon an intricate, metro-style network that rewards those who diligently uncover shortcuts between disparate city districts. Whilst the absence of a traditional map initially invites confusion when recalling the precise locations of locked doors, this design choice compels a more meaningful engagement with the haunting, interconnected environment. Combat provides a functional complement to the primary puzzle-platforming loops, utilising a simple yet punchy firearm alongside a versatile stunning mechanic. One cannot walk whilst aiming, which necessitates careful movement during skirmishes, particularly when dealing with the aerial bird adversaries that prove remarkably tiresome to track compared to ground-based foes. Progression feels consistently satisfying as the acquisition of vital equipment like crowbars and fuel allows one to bypass previous obstacles. Vault computer puzzles occasionally demand frantic precision due to punishingly tight time limits, yet overcoming these sequences ultimately provides a profound sense of accomplishment once the correct symbol patterns are finally mastered. Visual continuity shines through the small details, such as the haunting animation sequences that frame the creature’s presence at the start and conclusion of the journey. Unfortunately, identical shadowy character models are frequently recycled for both allies and enemies, frequently making it difficult to distinguish a genuine threat from a benign NPC. Technical friction occasionally manifests via dropped D-pad inputs or erratic keyboard prompts when using a controller, which can disrupt the flow of high-intensity platforming. Furthermore, the presence of restrictive fall damage often feels overly punitive, turning what should be a seamless traversal between buildings into a hazardous ordeal prone to unexpected, sudden deaths. Overall, this brief but affecting adventure avoids the tedious bloat that often plagues modern titles by focusing on a polished, cohesive experience. The generous checkpoint system provided by illuminated lamps ensures that progress remains persistent even after failure, cementing this as a highly enjoyable journey for any enthusiast of atmospheric puzzles.
Surprisingly high quality, well above the average for a small/solo studio. Pixel art does a great job creating mood, joined by a legit synthwave soundtrack. The game, and story within, is well paced and evocative. Minor issues are the scrolling being a little jank (it tends to become jerky every so often instead of staying smooth) and the difficulty being a little low, which could just as easily be a good thing. (To explain, it's easy to buy into the atmospheric tension the game creates as a matter of mood, and enemies have to be kept rare to prevent them from feeling too ordinary - this is a suspense game, not an action game. Plus, it's not cheating in the manner of some games, as enemies that chase you absolutely will catch up and get you if allowed. None the less, there's a feeling it could have been a touch more aggressive.) On sale, it's a must buy. At its base price ($16 at time of writing), I'd still recommend for anyone who likes what they see on the store page.
Awesome side scroller. Amazing music and atmosphere
Cool vibes. Great music and great art.
