I think I destroyed the universe and also reality. 10/10
Wow, where do I start! I was very excited for this game before it came out, being utterly charmed by the title and concept—a visual novel about a Shiba Inu named Syd in a world populated entirely by dogs (who, by the way, have advanced tech like wristphones with holographic displays and fully immersive VR!) But that was all I knew. So I was really very delighted by the journey that I was taken on in A Summer with the Shiba Inu. I deliberately tried to make all of my choices in the novel according to what I myself would do in those situations. I have to admit—I was not expecting the ending that I got from those choices! But, I really liked how the effects of my choices made sense in retrospect, making me appreciate so much more the deep story that I had read. The story is really well-written: entertaining throughout, gripping at times and humorous at others, with the odd hidden joke, pun, or reference here or there that I very much enjoyed. The music was also a highlight for me, with plenty of diversity in mood, yet consistent style. Both the music and the artwork very much added to the vibe of the story, especially the fast-paced fight scenes and light-hearted scenes exploring the rich culture of the island. And the dogs themselves are beautifully drawn and so cute. I definitely recommend this game!
the best game I've ever played.
I'm going to be honest, i didn't this game would actually be this good. I thought it would be a silly goofy little dog game but me and my sister stayed up till 5 in the morning finishing the game and even more time doing all the endings. I have high hopes for the next game their making and i hope its on the playstation because thats where i played this game first. Highly HIGHLY recommend, unless your a kid because the game gets weirdly dark.
I was looking forward to playing this game; seemed cute and fun. Best part about it was the bork button. It was convoluted and not cute. Don't waste your dogecoin on this.
I havent played much yet, it is on my list of games to play soon, but i know that this game is without a doubt a masta piece.
TL;DR: Despite the thumbs up I'm giving this game, it's such a weird, disjointed experience. It's basically a good VN, but I think it could have used a second draft with some more player feedback during the development process, as well as a stronger artist. --- First of all, the game's name, key art, and title screen initially lead me to believe this was a game centered around telling a cute story about talking dogs in the city. After playing for an hour, I had to circle back and read up on it to figure out that this is actually a cyber-thriller/mystery story, where the characters just happen to be dogs, and all the terminology is switched up to be relevant to them ("humanly possible" becomes "caninely possible", "Canada" becomes "Canine-da", etc). Second, the setting is a future (or alternate reality) where Hunger Games-like battle royale contests are the norm, but they take place on a virtual playing field. This sounds very high-tech and cyberpunk, but it isn't illustrated at all in the sense that you would expect, since this is a VISUAL novel, after all. The same character sprites just appear in different locations, without any change at all, while the narration tells you they exist in a virtual space. No VR helmets, wiring, or bizarre equipment (such as the pendants that are mentioned constantly) are shown. Which leads me to the art. There's not so much an "art style" as there are lots of stock images with PhotoShop filters on them. I mean, the characters have facial expressions, and they all somehow wear clothes that both work with their personalities and help them stand apart. But this really could have benefited from an artist with digital painting skill and a broad imagination to really show all the concepts that the writer came up with. And finally, the writing. This is definitely the strongest part of the game, since each character has clear goals, motivations, and backstories. The main plot thread of finding Syd's brother is compelling, and I'm still enjoying unraveling it as I type this. That said, going back to my first point, I needed more exposition or context in the first couple minutes of the game to understand what was happening, because I just didn't go into it expecting "missing person techno-thriller," from the Steam description or anything else. I sincerely hope the proceeds from this game allow the developer to give it a visual overhaul and a second draft with better marketing, because I think it could really take off and be a big success.
if you like dogs and visual novels, you have to play this game. this is not up for debate
