It's getting harder to write reviews for some of these games. Mostly because the game isn't bad enough for a negative but I feel bad if one of my friends bought this because I gave it a positive review. It's kind of like someone threw something together to make it just barely passable so they could make a few bucks. I mean the game is only $.99 so I don't know what I expected. I guess for $.99 it's something to do but you will probably be left feeling kind of meh. Well here's my honest review: There's three levels, first one is hard, last one is easy and second one is something in between. You can pick which to travel to from the menu. I didn't care for backrooms level one, it was painfully boring, visually and otherwise. The camera shake and wonky walking is maddening plus the time/date stamp on the screen seems like it should disappear. The sprint is like normal walking. I couldn't even finish this level. So I tried the poolrooms level 3 which was nicer to look at but when they say easy they aren't kidding. One room I walked out of the elevator across the room to the other elevator, done. And like so many poolrooms games the tippy tappy foot steps really ruin the lovely atmosphere. I didn't even bother trying level 2 which is a parking garage. So if you only want to spend $.99 and play a mediocre game then I will recommend it.
This feels like a demo done for a game jam and the price definitely reflects the quality. I love the puzzle and exploration aspect, but there's just so little of it here, just go from point A to point B with very little to no room for exploration in the last levels. I like the dev's unique vision of distorted environment, tho sometimes it made me wonder if it was intentional or just poor game design breaking the map. Speaking of bad game design, the controls are explained on the steam store page rather than in the game itself which is very interesting, there are no sound settings and only 2 graphic settings, no saving, no option to disable the emotionless voice acting or the subtitles. The lore isn't very deep nor does it make much sense. In short, it's a very unpolished game and doesn't feel liminal or like the backrooms at all, but everyone has their own idea of what backrooms are and I really hope the game will see an improvement in the future!
Looked promising from the screenshots. However, it just doesn't feel like a backrooms or liminal-space game. The first level (backrooms) is just a maze with too many small walls; textures are too small, thus the walls just look yellow. Not like usual backrooms games with large areas, endless walking, and feeling that you're lost. It just feels like a maze to run through. I then skipped the level (there is no save feature, only a level select) and tried out the parking area (area 2 of 3). Like 3 minutes later I ended up in the pool rooms (3 of 3), where I still hoped to get some liminal spaces feeling. But sorry, the level design and atmosphere are just not there. Just some boring built rooms with nice graphics and poolroom background noise. But not a second did this feel like the "poolrooms," you know from games like Dreamcore, Pools, Liminal Core, or Anemoiapolis. From a technical point of view, it runs well on an RTX 3080 in 4K; however, as there are no real options to select render resolution, it took me some game restarts to get it working. Also the menu looks very awkward. I'm sorry to say but I cannot recommend this game!
A LIMINAL SPACE REMASTERED
A very short and simple liminal "backrooms" style game that kinda gives you another perspective of the whole Backrooms universe, even if it is not truly set in the same universe but could totally fit in. As soon as the game start, you are summoned to go help your colleague stuck in a far level. When progressing level by level (which are tiny), you progress the exploration and you find some titbits of information in specific levels. Just a little hint... you SEEM work for OHIO Security Department, an another company than ASYNC (known company in the Backrooms' lore) and your company are kinda pissed with what ASYNC is doing by experimenting in the Backrooms. I'd theorise that you may be involved in a company that manage or build these rooms? Maybe? If that's the case, that would be a new and fun unique way to find out more of the Backrooms. For what is worth, for 1,29$ CAD, this short (26 minutes to complete) game is surely worth a shot for any Backrooms fan.
。。are you sure???
This one is hard to judge. Especially for a one man project and the fair price. I also liked the visuals. You had fresh ideas like the cars beeing stuck in the floor, the sky level and also the beach where a day was extremely short and the shadows were just dancing around. I wish I could have stayed at the beach a little longer. But there is a little but here. Don't worry, nothing big, could be fixed and should be fixed. First of all I jumped into a deep pool, fell and died. The game even gave me a cause of death. I woke up in the elevator beeing stuck. I could not move. And ESC to go back to the menu doesn't work. So I had to restart the game. Luckily you allow some starting points because the very first level was really a level I don't want to play again. This was also the Level which made me put the game away the first time. The second bug is the wooden slope just before you enter the room with the skyscrapers. I jumped down the slope and was standing next to it and could not get back up. Jumping is not allowed. So I had to ALT-F4 to get out (again) and restart the game. Run through the poolrooms a third time. The last one got me in the sky Level. The door just would not open allthough I had the key. I ran against it again and again and finally got through. I know it must have been a lot of work. I liked the different footsteps on different grounds, like on gras. I liked how the clouds were diffusing. I also liked the sounds. Just give it a little polish. Liminal games make you want to explore, look behind anything you find in the game. Try to open any door, jump in all the pools. If you die and then a bug makes you have to restart the game, you lose interest in exploring, the main reason at least for me to play these games. And please add a rubber duck somewhere :-)
