About
Trenchcoat Adventurer is a dungeon-crawling roleplaying game with a whimsical heart and a beautiful, hand-drawn CrayonVision aesthetic.
Three Kobolds find themselves drawn to the allure of Adventuring after overhearing how successful adventurers get to eat the best food and have the shiniest shiny things. Cunningly disguised in a trenchcoat, this towered trio find their way though an ever-deepening dungeon in the hunt for shinies and tasties!
Unbeknownst to them, the "beginner dungeon" that they wandered into breaks through into a much deeper, darker place full of real peril... with the training wheels off and the worst equipment they could find, can our Trenchcoated heroes go from wannabes to true heroic adventurers?
Explore a hand-crafted Dungeoneering experience through the eyes of Kobolds and rendered in beautiful CrayonVision!
Utilise the equipment you want... and eat the equipment you don't! With cast-iron stomachs, Kobolds can eat anything to keep their strength up
Classic Dungeon Crawling with grid-based movement, turn-based combat and RPG elements! Level up your Kobolds to turn them from zero to hero!
A Hand-Authored Dungeon experience through Six Chapters, with randomised loot to keep things fresh and interesting!
Over 300 different items to collect! From Equipment to Keys to Potions and Trinkets, all can found throughout the dungeon or bought from enterprising Goblin Merchants!
Everything hand-made! No AI generated ANYTHING!

absolutely adorable with old school fun!
7/10 a slightly deeper combat system would be nice, as is, there just isn't much to it other than click attack until thing dies or you die. That's said, for what it is, that being a mechanically simple dungeon crawler that doesn't take itself very seriously, it's quite fun.
Cutesy graphics conceal a surprisingly challenging resource limited DRPG. Items are randomized and use of a single auto-save slot prevents cheesing anything other than level starts. Almost a traditional roguelike in challenge. You can easily dead-end a save if you play through all chapters in a row and have to restart. The only form of meta-progression appears to be unlocking chapter starts (1-6 so far) Lovely DRPG that can be played in short sessions and respects the player's time.
This is an amazing little game that deserves more attention. The artstyle, the humor, the level design, it all works together really, really well. One of the best dungeon crawlers I've ever played.
I don't often write reviews, but this game deserves it. It's a very charming game that clearly shows the love and care the team put into it. The art style alone is fun to look at, the dialogue is quirky, and the kobolds are cute! The gameplay starts out simple, but it's well-balanced around managing your equipment, inventory, and stats. There's already a bit of replayability currently due to the randomized item drops and the secrets you can find in each level. Overall, it starts out good and stays good!
Kobold story perfectly captures the fun mischief nature of kobolds. Having the tooltips and in game guide done by the kobolds is a blast, whilst the crayon style of the graphics is a delight to see. The narration is worth special mention, VA does an amazing job. Game itself is easy to pick up with some deeper elements to the combat but you can choose to have a more story based experience if so desired. Looking forward to diving back in as the game is developed
Taking a classic Table Top Gaming Meme and turning it into a full Fledged dungeon crawler? A surprisingly good idea actually! If you've played Dungeon Crawlers like Icewind Dale or Legend of Grimrock, this cute and silly take on the game type is right in your ballpark. In fact, this game might be a good way to introduce people you know TO the Dungeon Crawler Genre as it uses the core Elements in its own unique way. Specifically instead of making a party of 4 stacked in a square, you're a party of 3, stacked vertically. Each member serving as "part" of your "Trench Coat Adventurer", and contributing their own bonuses to your stats. You'll slap onto them anything you can find in the Dungeon to survive, and the rest? That's Lunch. As you'll use everything from food to equipment to keep your health up and your hunger down. Who knew that broken shields tasted so good? This review was written right at the beta release of Chapter 4 and I've been quite entertained by its charm and silliness. I have good hopes for the team, and they are very active with talking to their audience for what their goals are for this game. All in all, this is a cute silly romp though old school dungeon crawling with three hapless but earnest Lil lizards. I came for the Kobolds but stayed for the buffet of apples and crunchy helmets.
Do you like dungeon crawling, kobolds, weapons, a cool art style, adventure and eating weapons???? Well A kobold Story: Trenchcoat Adventurer is one you should dive into. Although the game is not complete at the time of writing this review it has been a title that’s been fun to follow and a breath of fresh air when it comes to early access titles which in my history has been mixed. Gameplay itself is a fun and accessible loop. Crawl through dungeons and fight off evil creatures (goblins, creepy crawlies, cultists, etc…), level up your kobolds, loot and get stronger then continue diving deeper while keeping your little goobers fed. But with 3 mouths to feed sometimes even your loot will have to go to suffice them. You have access to a melee attack which consists of a couple types (think slash, stab and bonk), and plenty of magical spells to put the odds in your favor to fight longer plus a couple defensive options. And like any dungeon diver the deeper you go the more challenging things get~ (as it should be). There are plenty of difficulty modes now so whether you are a casual player or hardcore there is something for you plus modifiers to adjust the difficulty for or against you. At the moment the bigger issues in this game usually come from bugs and some balancing due to the game continually being worked on, which in itself is very normal for early access games, but I will say as someone who has streamed this many times the big standout of this game is the devs themselves who listen to player feedback and take bug reports seriously, being quick to fix those issues and take consideration to optimizations etc… which is great! So yes if you are playing and hitting any issues just let them know :3 Do I recommend? Yes! Would I recommend waiting till full release? Yes and No- If you just are wanting the full game off the back then yes it’s best to hold off. But if you are someone who wants to take part in the adventure early then pick it up… due to the sprint cycles for the game, content comes at a great pace so even if you put it down for a little bit there will be stuff coming after a short wait. So yes pick it up and support some great devs! And as always keep up the great work devs your getting close to the finish line!
Super cute game, I like the art style. It gets pretty hard pretty fast once you get out of the first chapter, especially for food, and I haven't gotten much past there, looking forward to trying to see what else there is in the game. I think the inventory system is pretty neat too, no way to sell things but everything is food which helps too, Really though I just had a fun time and am looking forward to more.
Not a lot of games just ooze charm but this game is definently one of them....and not because I have a bias for Kobolds. will 100% be sharing this game around, keep up the great work
