7 Groves (PC) 2024 The purpose of the game is to find 7 gardens so that you can collect enough necessary runes to reignite a magical camp fire at the beginning of the game. There are several voiced complaints among players, the main one being motion sickness, which I, myself became victim of. I’m not sure what exactly in the game causes this, whether it’s the incessant head bobbing, the ever-drowning chanting, or the not welcomed feeling of being lost, in where to go and what to do. This is all due to hidden pathing and no clear instructions on how to collect runes (left mouse click). Or maybe motion sickness was a result of the combination of all the things stated above. This Amsterdam Hobbyist developer Thijs van den Berg basically just wanted to bring the 2D painting landscapes of Vincent Van Gogh to life by transferring them into a 3D format and then share that vision for free to others. This alone is commendable. Problem is, the players interactions in the game have no long-lasting benefit. None of the portals stay open, players do not make any meaningful or beautiful additions to the landscapes and there is no ending to the game. No credits and the last objective of reigniting the campfire does not do anything either. Even though the developer is a literature teacher in real life, we are given no information about the painted landscapes or the artist their inspired by, hence the whole time spent exploring feels extremely trivial. Its pretty to make screen shots of and that’s all. Another negative gripe is that customer support is nonexistent. After emailing and messaging the developer on several mediums if he intended to add credits to the game, I got no reply. In final, a pretty picture game to take screen shots of. The game would be better if the developer paused creative mode and placed himself in customer/players shoes so that he could improve on the dynamics of creating meaningful gaming experiences. Thijs van der Berg, I’m glad your feeling inspired by a wonderful painter, but please don’t lose yourself making games and go crazy, don’t cut off your left ear. https://youtu.be/A5hwOBwuKdA?feature=shared If you enjoyed reading this review please subscribe to my curator page. Super-short draw distance makes it impossible to actually navigate. No explanation of what you're supposed to be doing other than looking at the scenery, which you can't even see because of the aforesaid super-short draw distance. No way to turn off the godawful motion blur; I had to quit playing after a few minutes because it made me physically nauseous. Final review: 1/5 (Bad) - Lovely screensaver, terrible game.
"7Groves" one of the more difficult reviews anyone could make... this is a deliberately surreal first person adventure game, mostly walking simulator, with a few lightweight puzzles to solve. The graphics are quite good. Unfortunately that's about all that's up to scratch. The game soundtrack needs work... a mountain of it. It's not hard to grab some creative commons sounds and music (just make sure they're properly credited, because plagiarism is akin to asset flipping). And so does the gameplay itself... it's not hard to make a reasonable first person game using Unity. The control scheme here is almost deliberately awkward, and for a game focused on providing a "comfortable casual" experience, making the controls and enemy of gamers is the worst way to achieve it. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 13 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "maybe" experience... if you have a lot of free time on your hands and nothing else to do, why not? But for the purposes of a review, this isn't something I can say everyone must try. It's not quite there. Valve doesn't give us a "maybe" option in reviews, but if they did, that's what I'd choose for this.
Dont understand it. The many colors give me a headache.
It's pretty, with an Alice In Wonderland kind of surrealism. But you end up wandering around an eye-candy maze in near silence, looking for arbitrarily placed keys to open up doors that may or may not do anything as far as I could tell. Wasn't my cup of tea, but there's little risk for trying at the low low price of free.
The Good
+Colorful and unique art
YMMV
~Surreal ~Not much in the way of music ~Very easy to become disoriented ~A few areas that seem completely pointless? ~Lots of backtracking ~Camera motion takes some getting used to ~Can't move and look independently of one another ~A few areas you can clip into walls
The Bad
-Forced WASD -No control instructions -"Keys" aren't placed in locations that would draw attention. You're forced to cover every square inch of wide open areas that would be very difficult to map. Played on: Win11, i7-14700K, RTX4060 Ti 8GB, 32GB DDR5-6000 @ 1920x1080 using KB&M
Игра имеет красивый стиль но нету настроек оптимизации и простого yбирания блюра при движения камеры, я могy и так поиграть но это не особо удобно и от этого не получишь эмоции...
The game is more of a walking simulator. The graphics are good. I wouldn't recommend it because it gets boring after a while.
Мне кажется автор вдохновлялся Алисой из зазеркалья. Играть легко и просто
