Honestly, this was fun back in the day. However, it looks like the second step is probably never going to come so unfortunately a failed project overall.
Interesting concept, but a it quickly wears out its welcome. As the game expands upon it's mechanics, instead of getting more interesting it got more tedious. Completing the same tasks wold yield a wide variety of results, a bad decision with good get you much more rewards than a good decision with bad-medium luck. Also it seems to try to inject a story but randomly making a life choice for one of your soulless game tokens every 30-60 minutes. I'm not sure if the choices had a effect on the game play but they certainly didn't make me care you some digital game piece.
I wish my ancients never begat me.
It is a nice board type game for the first 5 hours or so but after that it the reality that you have been doing the same thing over and over for the last 5 hour sets in.
Quiet, casual and nostalgic feel. Easy to learn and play, hard to master. You can really lose yourself in "one more game"
Whatever, I like it and I'll continue to play it in small bursts. Put coins in slots, random interesting events happen, your family goes through the ages making a name for themselves. Sad to see no movement on a sequel, but that gives me plenty of time to some day finish this game.
This is basically a board game Every cycle you want to do the following: _ Generate tokens which are your means of moving along the board (lest you end up in the tummy of an alligator), but the act of doing so makes you go back on your tracks _ Move along the board to capture beads before NPCs, which unlock boons when a threshold is reached (such as upwards mobility to a higher caste) _ Feed tokens to your child to improve their odds of generating tokens after switching to the new generation (when you reach the end of a cycle) Once in a while you get a scripted event too There's not much like it on Steam and it's pretty flavourful

7 Grand Steps is a unique turn-based strategy game that blends elements of board games and resource management in an intriguing historical setting. Developed by Mousechief Co., the game provides players with an opportunity to guide a family through generations, making pivotal decisions that shape their fate. One notable aspect of 7 Grand Steps is its innovative gameplay mechanics. The use of a circular board and the incorporation of historical events create a dynamic and engaging experience. Players navigate through various eras, encountering challenges and opportunities that test their strategic thinking. The concept of generations passing on knowledge and traits adds a layer of complexity to the decision-making process. The visual design of the game is distinctive, with hand-drawn illustrations that evoke a sense of antiquity. The attention to detail in depicting historical periods contributes to the overall immersive experience. However, some players may find the visuals a bit simplistic, and the interface could be more intuitive. The narrative aspect of 7 Grand Steps is well-crafted, weaving together the personal stories of the family with broader historical events. The game manages to strike a balance between player agency and the inevitable course of history, allowing for meaningful choices while maintaining a sense of historical accuracy. On the downside, the learning curve of 7 Grand Steps can be steep for some players. The game's mechanics and intricacies may take time to fully grasp, and the lack of a comprehensive tutorial can be challenging for newcomers. Additionally, the pacing may feel slow at times, which could deter players seeking a more fast-paced gaming experience. Despite its challenges, 7 Grand Steps offers a refreshing and thought-provoking gaming experience for those who enjoy strategy games with a historical twist. The combination of innovative gameplay mechanics and a rich narrative makes it a compelling choice for players looking for a game that stands out in the strategy genre.
I can't quite tell if this game is good, exactly, but it is intriguing - very intriguing. I like it! :)
