5089: The Action RPG

I first purchased 3089 and played it quite a bit, and was very excited when phr00t announced this game. However, upon release I was quite disappointed, as this game is extremely similar to 3089. This entire game could have been released as an update to 3089 and I almost wouldn't have noticed. As for actual gameplay, it's ok. My main gripe with the game is that there really isn't much of a purpose. The game is effectively a grind loop from beginning to end, and thats pretty much it. Another problem with the game in my opinion is how terrible the guns feel. It does not feel good at all to engage an enemy, as the guns are difficult to aim, due to a massive cone of fire(even for rifles), and the effects for guns are boring. I think this game could maybe be fun with friends, but for solo players, this probably isn't a good pick, unless you are looking for a more casual and aimless adventure in a low poly environment.

I actually love this overlooked gem of a game. Sure, you can just grab the five nearest guns and start blasting, but once you take the time to study the weapon components, options, and utilities in depth, the game's possibilities just keep opening in myriad layers, which make it the best kind of RPG. Even before I have completed a first run with my blunt-force, knuckle-dragging, armed-to-the-teeth Schwartzenegger-core style, ideas for my more sophisticated, James Bond style stealthy, aircraft pilot, tech-savvy character come to mind. Either that or I go full Highlander and melee berserk on my enemies. The only criticism of this game is, that even if you love the 90's nostalgic look and feel of the game, Phroot, God bless his heart, and eyes, has a questionable grasp of aesthetics, so many may find the game hard to look at.

There are some good gameplay ideas, but the frustrations in the gameplay eventually wear my enjoyment down.

You either catch a few thousand probes or quit the game before it gets to you. Shame, it did look like a pretty game.

AWESOME!!! BETTER THAN THE ONES MADE BEFORE IT!! SAY!! PHROOT SHOULD PUT IN THE ORIGINAL 3059 AD AND ITS SEQUEL ON STEAM SO ITS NOT LOST TO HISTORY!! AWESOME STUFF!!
