50 Minutes Til Impact is a side-scrolling linear adventure game that leans heavily into visual novel territory. It has some light puzzles—mostly of the deduce-the-code variety—and one sudoku-like segment. Otherwise, dialogue and items move the plot forward. My favorite character in 50 Minutes is the setting itself! The interior design, and the way it's presented, gives the space-train they are on a vibe! The graphics engine has a very cool effect going on, almost like cell-shading, that gives everything a distinctive animated look and feel. The well-thought-out lighting, and the unique way it's cast, really gives 50 Minutes a solid identity and sense of place. I found navigating around and exploring this environment quite enjoyable. Some of the main cast were enjoyable, too.. There is enough mystery to them, and to the plot, to be intriguing. I am rarely a fan of
time-loop
stories, however, as they do retread ground. 50 Minutes is no exception, but fares better than most! Personally, I would have preferred
"one less loop."
The music was surprisingly good. I am a fan of the main "action" theme—it has a tempo and mood that matches the setting and atmosphere perfectly. The voice acting that is present was also quite good, but—alas—not all lines are voice acted. It is a little jarring, and I thought my game was bugging out at first when lines were not delivered. So be it. Overall, 50 Minutes Til Impact is a solid entry into the genre. I think it's worth a try even just to chill-out aboard this train for a bit!

I was one of the playtesters for this game and let me tell you, I was super impressed when testing it, and even more impressed when I finally got to play the entire thing. There's so much to love about 50 Minutes 'Til Impact: the story, the characters, the music, the art... really the whole package dos a great job of immersing you into the world. I was pleasantly surprised with the intricate nature of the story and its ability to build on itself without slowing you down. I'm a huge sucker for the combination of solid world building along with solid character building, and this game had both. Sometimes I feel that games or films do too much of one or the other (too much exterior building while neglecting interior building or vice versa) but 50MTI had me itching to learn everything I could about the world and the characters. However, I definitely left the game wanting more. I say this as a compliment; it was bitter sweet to have to leave the world and characters after I completed the game. I wish we had gotten to know a little more about each of the supporting side characters, but I also understand that pacing and timing were of the essence here. One critique I have is that the dialogue sweetening didn't feel consistent between characters. Some felt like they were mixed in very well, while others sounded like they were in a box. There were also some typos in the dialogue and the continue button didn't always work. Approaching interaction stations was also slightly difficult because you had to really stand in a precise position to be able to interact. Amazing amazing job to all who worked on this project. To anyone who is interested in playing, I highly recommend you play this with a group of people or at least one other person. It was way more fun playing this with a group of people to try and speculate, predict, and react to things that were happening rather than just playing it by myself.
Wow. Apples
An impressive student project. Wish these new devs long and happy careers :)
I like the idea of the game, but the characters look grotesque! The dialogue between the characters is great, and the drawing of the avatars is very beautiful. However, when the character looks at you, it's macabre.
From Clara to Jamal.
Walter sweep, awesome guy.
I really enjoyed my playthrough of this game. It was a short experience, about 2 hours for me, and I felt it was really well paced. The way the story and puzzles were put together was really nice, and I thought the time-loop was a great way to make the game feel less 'linear', which is something puzzle games can struggle with sometimes. I felt a ton of Persona inspiration in this one (which is a good thing). I really enjoyed the characters and the voice acting. There were unfortunately some audio mixing issues, and some of the characters' voices sounded like they were recorded with echo or equipment issues, but I was able to get past this, and really enjoyed all the performances given. Clara, Edith, and Walter were particularly likeable characters with great voice acting in my opinion (this is not to knock the other characters at all, these 3 had a lot of screen time which helps). The story was nice, the UI felt good, artstyle was beatiful, everything ran smooth. Especially for a free game, I really really enjoyed my time, and recommend for anyone who's into story-driven linear games, as well as simple escape room puzzles
This game looks like a project from a group of Game Development students. But they did a well job, just the playtesting is a little rough.
Didn’t expect a VN on a retro-futuristic space train to hook me this hard. The ~50-minute time-loop structure actually works: each run I picked up a new clue, a code, or an item and it meaningfully pushed the story forward. You’re not just clicking dialogue walking the cars, checking terminals, and piecing together passcodes gives it a light adventure vibe that keeps the pace up. Characters are fun (the bar car scenes are great) and the art/music sell the whole “luxury train headed for disaster” mood. Couple of nitpicks: pathing can feel a bit stiff when you’re trying to line up with an interactable, and I’d love a quick journal/log that auto-records discovered codes & hints between loops. But overall, smart puzzles, clear feedback when you progress, and a neat premise that doesn’t overstay its welcome. If you like narrative adventures with actual exploration and deduction, this is an easy recommend.
I had fun playing this!
