It's like a bad tutorial for a game you already know how to play. Like taking the simplest part of a software and thinking they are the hardest part of it. Yeah, I fell for the instagram commercial.
As a huge Blender fan, I was incredibly excited about the concept of this game. A fun, interactive way to learn the software sounds great on paper. Unfortunately, the execution is so abysmal I couldn't stand playing for more than 15 minutes. The game is riddled with bugs and is shockingly unoptimized. Yes, it's early access, but the issues here are fundamental and frankly, quite amateurish. On top of the technical mess, the game has no music, only jarring and randomly occurring sound effects. There is zero progression. You're essentially paying a premium for a basic tutorial on how to move, rotate, and scale objects—something you can learn from countless free, high-quality tutorials on YouTube. I understand the appeal of the core idea, especially for absolute beginners or kids who could learn Blender in a gamified way. However, I simply cannot recommend it. You waste more time aimlessly walking around a tiny map than you do learning. You'd be much better off watching Blender Guru's "Donut" series. To sum it up: if the game was actually playable, it might scrape by with a 4/10. In its current state, it's a firm 1/10. Call me a pessimist, but I fully expect this project to be abandoned. However, if the developer is serious about turning this around, here's my advice: Get rid of the explosions. Ditch the map, or change it to a simple grid-based island navigated with Blender's own hotkeys. Remove the rabbits and any quest that doesn't teach a core Blender concept. Abandon the "open-world" pretense and create a linear experience where movement itself is tied to Blender's shortcuts, complete with a sensible learning curve. At this point, it would probably be easier to start over. (Also, why is a game for beginners packed with inside jokes that only veteran Blender users will understand?) And seriously, the price tag on this is unjustifiable.
Lesson learned. Should have scrolled down before adding to cart. I truly HOPE this game gets more content added and it doesn't stay in limbo for eternity. This is such a cool concept if it can be executed well. Please continue adding to this game. In it's current state, it REALLY shouldn't have been released as an early access game.. let alone charge that much for what is there. Maybe this was done to put feelers out there to see if you should keep developing it? Either way, at this point in time I can't recommend to people to download the full version, but maybe to download the demo. Once more content is added with more lessons and maybe if some of the creases are ironed out, I can change this from a thumbs down to a thumbs up. Thank you! Happy developing!
I was thoroughly excited to get my hands on this game to only be met with 5 levels that can be played through fairly quickly. Pretty much after that
Hihi! My work involves a lot of programming and collaboration with others in the gaming industry. I know the rough basics of Blender already and got this game to gain a bit more in-depth knowledge and be more familiar with it. Plus, let's be honest: TikTok made it look really fun. There are lots of pros and mostly cons with it, but it has potential. I'll be updating my review after the next updates(ish). Most of the reviews are negative right now, so let's start with the pros: -The characters are quite cute and honestly I spent the first 5 minutes of the game running around with WASD and pooping with the Shift key. I would and will continue abusing the shift key throughout the game. Why is this so entertaining -Great, inexpensive concept. Like the good days of Duolingo. -Good storyline. There's a lot of random, low-poly details and it gives a nice, inviting feel to starting the game/lessons. It feels natural and not 100% forced, while still leaving room for more. -If they continue the same price (currently $6 US) or have a close range for the official release of the game, it's an inexpensive and fun way to get the basics ingrained in your memory. Now for the cons... -Easy to get stuck. In the first 15 minutes of playing I was stuck and had to look through other reviews to get out and fix it (by the way, Tab is your friend AND your enemy in this game. Use it to go back to the map but you'll spawn at the last door you used. Thank you peachlovecraft!). -Weak dialogue. It really just throws you in and not all of the dialogue is grammatically correct (at least in English-I don't know if other languages are available). -Audio "balance" is way off. The game starts with the Master volume on the lowest setting and doesn't seem to let you change it in game. The other optional bars for music, sfx, etc don't seem to make any difference outside of the home page or be accurate in any way, shape, or form. My ears are about to start bleeding. -Quit does not work. Just close it with Alt+F4 or the X at the top. -Triggers incorrectly. Almost every animal in the level is already spawned in before I approach them and it shows the little 'poof' appearance effect after I arrive. It makes it look like the animals fart when you first approach them and honestly I think it's hilarious. -more incorrect triggers. If you move items around to the general area, they just snap in place-which is nice but I don't even have to rotate them for them to flip on their own. -Bad directions. They have little bread slices in the game to try and show you the general area you're supposed to go, but they also have a little inconsistently shown arrow that points to the general direction your objective is in. -Lacking tutorials. There are some basic, common things that they don't explain to you-particularly the tab key-that are really important to well, the whole game. If I didn't have the concept before, I probably would have needed an extra guide. -Miscollectibles. You can collect some cards on popular(?) Blender users that worked on the game(?) or are referenced in it. However, you can also recollect these as blank cards if you respawn to the world map (for example, from the Dojo area). -Loosely linear play. There seems to be a storyline, yes, and even little bread crumbs to lead you to it! But if you stray away from the storyline (like if you go to the dojo after getting the key before using the laptop) there are certain events that will trigger early like getting a raft from the mouse in the shop as a gift BEFORE you save the mouse. And then your game locks up. Oops. -Clipping and lack of doors. If you go off the waterfall and to the chest, then you go back to the waterfall, you'll go through the waterfall and then clip up on top of the rock like you're playing Tears of the Kingdom. Neat little fix to prevent players from getting stuck but the whiplash is surprising. On the other hand, the fences and doors I should be able to go through aren't triggering(?) or allowing my to move/open them so I have to clip through the ocean to go around and get to where I think I'm supposed to be? -Awkward, inconsistent movement. Going from the little mini-sessions to the overworld game HURTS. If the overworld lets me turn with a single click and drag, the mini sessions require 17 of those to turn 90 degrees. I get trying to ingrain the movement in your memory but MAN it sucks. -It's not pricey (again, currently $6 US) and I don't mind paying a bit to support it, but I expected a bit more refinement before diving into this stage-especially after boasting 1000 Kickstarters. The biggest takeaway is that this needed to an alpha or a beta. It doesn't feel polished enough to be an early access game quite yet. While I can't recommend the game just yet, I do recommend keeping an eye on the updates for it. Lots of momentum and a good foundation to look forward to.
Players beware, this isnt just Early access as of my review, The game is basically in a pre alpha stage, there are 5 "stages" available on a stage select screen that show you about how to move the camera, Do some Scaling moving and rotating of objects. when visiting the Developer discord the last messages were in October 2025. This appears to be a dead project. a great concept a shame it wont be brought to life.
If you are looking for an in-depth introduction to Blender right now, this is not it. it introduces roughly 5 total concepts (all being the most basic options you could probably find out about on your own just by working with a sample cube). I held off on doing this for a while, and I regret doing so because I would have been able to refund this after completing it with all the levels 3-starred in 9 mintues (two of which were spent trying to put it in full-screen mode (which I found out you can't). If they expand on this, I will look into it in the future. But in its current state? I honestly don't even think it should sport a price tag. This is a glorified demo more than anything else. If any updates release to where it would be worth investing more time into, I will revisit this review. But for now, this game has some potential, but overall, is not worth getting right now.
The Demo
The demo seemed very fleshed out and had a linear progression with literal "bread crumbs" that lead you to each objective, however, there is also an arrow from you character that also points directly to the next objective. Weird to have 2 different ways of leading you but having the arrow as a fail safe if the bread crumbs don't appear back if you save and quit could be a good thing to have. Pretty well thought out and teaches going into edit mode and how to move the camera. Though using your scroll wheel to zoom is very slow and with require a lot of scrolling to pass the objective, small problem that can be fixed in the real game (which they do with a scroll sensitivity) The first steps of blender, with room to expand upon. Great way to demo the concept of a game that teaches blender. A fun little secret i found was falling off the map leads you to a huge castle type area. Maybe this is going to be where the real game takes place? It's not...
The Game - main menu
The main menu now has Play, Setting, Credits, and Quit buttons. The demo just had a Play button, so its starting to look more like a game now. The Setting button has an audio tab, profiles tab, and an input tab. The profiles tab, input tab, credits button, and quit button all do nothing. Not a great sign, but lets see what we can do with the Play button. Ah just the option to play as an unchangeable name, no big deal I just want to get into learning blender and explore the maps designed by the creators, the demo one looked pretty nice. After pressing play you get the demos cut-scene and a scroll wheel sensitivity. Nice, fixing the one problem i had with the demo.
The Game - map and first missions
You are put into a rather large starting area different from the demo and not the super cool looking castle area that was in the demo if you fell out the map. But there are bread crumbs to lead you forward, and progress. You get the same orbit camera mission from the demo then proceed to follow bread crumbs and talk to some of the locals. Now the bread crumbs lead you to the disk for the laptop you ran into earlier to do the next mission. This mission is the next camera orbit one from the demo with more polish and game aspects of combat.
The Game - bugs
Now the first bug I experienced isn't just some movement hindering bug, it is a full on soft locking bug. Something about the way the check points are done can straight up not let you progress. I didn't know the disk was going to appear there because it didn't appear for 5 different times of me closing the game and full resetting my save file. I was able to progress as intended after playing for over 40 minutes of troubleshooting. What doesn't help is there is a wall to a next area and there is a disk clearly visible on the other side, making me think that was the disk I needed. Before find out out about the disk on my other 4 playthroughs I went into a dojo and encountered Suzanne the mentor of the game and had no prompts. Just a plain white room with this floating monkey head. Restart the game and then it works and you learn you press tab for edit mode and that you can rotate, move, and transform objects. After that I think I did all the things to do in the first area like help a cat fix his house using movement and rotation, he said here have this after and nothing was given to me. I also played baseball. Mini-games with blender controls is a pretty dang cool. Though I did all that before I had a save where the disk appeared so I think I would have to do it all over again to progress because in that save I couldn't get into the next area because of a wall "We don't know how to move yet". Used edit mode to transform it and be able to walk past it but nothing was interact-able in that area, presumably because I was soft-locked from the disk not appearing in that save. While i did those playthroughs the bread crumbs were not interact-able so I figured the idea was ditched without knowing I had already experienced a bug skipping the first combat mission.
History - kickstarter
I only heard about this game a few days before the early access release, but i loved the demo and wanted to do a little digging. The game had a kick starter raising $39,129 with 1,008 backers. This means that the game reached the minimum stretch goal. $30k "The campaign will be funded and the game in its essential form will be made." $50k Localization language support $75k "Mac OS support" $100k "Sound design / custom ost" $150k "Import your own blender models" $200k "Trackpad Compatibility" $250k "Release for web" $300k "DLC more levels" With a budget breakdown: 35% Development 25% Art & Design 20% Marketing 10% Music & Audio 5% Staff 5% Fees The game didn't get as far on kickstarter as the Dev team was hoping, I'm guessing. Which maybe pushed the early access release in its current state.
Overall
The game in its current state is unplayable but the bones are strong. There is a lot of promise and I think when this game fixes the bugs it will take off, but until then I think releasing in early access was a mistake that will give people who purchase it on steam a sour taste and they will leave a negative review and/or refund their purchase. Depending on how patches come out and support is continued will be the tell if this game makes it or not. It has only been out for 3 days as I write this but steam is showing no patches have been put out. I am on the fence about refunding it because I wouldn't mind paying more for the full thing later, but it is unplayable in its current state. I wish only good things to happen to this game and the Devs. Good luck XRIO
At this time the game is very early access but it has a lot of potential! I look forward to coming back and finding updates! <3
I think this game is a novel and fun way to show and teach the basics of Blender. BUT it is still VERY early in its stages. I have a pretty strong pc but even my warmachine was screaming while the game ran. There is a lot of optimization issues, gameplay issues (like literally being unable to progress because it just wont load, and a bunch of tiny bugs). But I really hope this game gets the help it deserves to bring Blender to a bigger audience.
