My name in the credits, got my key the first day it was released, and still I am not the first one to review this. Figures. Anyhoo, saw this originally on Kickstarter a while ago. Developer wanted one pound and it'd be successful. After verifying that a pound meant a British unit of currency and not a trick to rip the flesh right out of me, I decided I was going to jump on it for the hell of it. Then I saw for a few more pounds I could be listed in the credits. Bonus! I like indie games, and I like the classics. This is both. In case you don't know your history, the title is a reference to the first video game a lot of us ever saw in the arcade: Space Invaders. This game was so old school it was in black and white, except if the owner of that particular unit wrapped colored cellophane over the display. Not a joke, they did that. But it was the '70s, so they wrapped it around people and whole islands for all I was paying attention at the time. Whippersnappers think maybe that was kidding too. Kids these days have no idea. Yes, get off my lawn. I had a point at one time... Oh, right, this game. If you like Space Invader clones, this is one of the better ones I've seen. It adds color and a more frantic pace. It's a little more streamlined than the version released to Kickstarter supporters, so it's even better than what I paid for. Hey, now that I think of it... Since I was a Kickstarter supporter, does that mean I got this key for free and have to mention it in the review? Well, sort of yes, sort of no. I paid the Kickstarter fee for it, he just couldn't guarantee keys at the time. I'll mention it anyway just to be safe. Heck, just having my name in the credits (I mention that yet? It totally is!) means I ought to mention it. Game, uh... Colors, indie developer, cool music at times, twist on classic gameplay, graphics that aren't AAA game polished but at least better than the typical indie stuff, and powerups, and so many flying saucers he must think this is the '70s or something (wait, that title again). All we need are pet rocks and disco lights. Maybe we put a checkmark next to disco lights looking at the screenshots and thinking back. Probably a pet rock too somewhere, but I've played the Kickstarter version more than this one so far. Is that a cliche? "Ignore Steam's hours on record, I've played another version to death, I swear." Well, doubters... just check the credits. Anyway, if you like this type of game, you should like this one. It's got an authentic vibe to it, not like someone who thinks Space Invaders is about condo squatters or something. Space ships, explosions... what more do you need? But if you demand schmancy VR stuff or emergent personalities or anime tits (not that there's anything wrong with that), you probably won't find it here. Unless that's a powerup I didn't get yet. And did I mention you should like totally check out my name in the credits, dude? It even matches my Steam name, more or less (just a space difference, which is fitting I guess). So you can verify. Just only do it if you want a game that's like an LCD trip down Random Access Memory lane. (I probably stole that line unconsciously from somewhere cool. What can I say, I do lots of stuff unconsciously.)
The biggest problem with this game is every time you shoot a ship or a ship shoots one of the "people" it results in a large distorted explosion. Repeated explosions make it [strike]difficult[/strike] impossible to see if things are coming at you, particularly missiles that kill you. You can see examples of this in the screenshots. That's on top of the confusing blue background that is nearly the same color as your ship. I think there was a reason old-school shooters kept the graphics simple with a black background. If the dev cleared up some of the color confusion and get rid of the distortion, it'd be a decent remake of old-school space invaders. Otherwise, it's hard to recommend, even when it's on sale for a decent price.

1979 Invasion Earth is a Space Invaders style arcade game with different game modes. TL;DR at bottom Gameplay: Playing 1979 Invasion Earth, or even just looking at promotional material for the game, you will notice that it is extremely reminiscent of the classic game, Space Invaders. It doesn't necessarily hide this fact, as the developer states that the game is based off of classic games they used to enjoy. However, this game does make an attempt to create a unique experience instead of a blatant clone in an attempt to get some quick cash. There are 3 different game modes, as well as a 2 player mode. These game modes are Arcade, Skillshot, and Survival, all with slightly different goals. The core mechanics of each game mode are the same throughout, but they offer different challenges and goals for the player to work towards. Arcade is the classic mode, where you try and destroy all of the enemies that are moving down your screen, progressing through levels that increase in difficulty. Skillshot is a mode where you have to destroy a certain amount of enemies out of a group of enemies that are presented in different ways. The goal is to get the highest level. Survival is simply how it sounds, survive for as long as you can. There are many different enemies in addition to the traditional aliens who move down the screen in sync. There are also power-ups that you can shoot to upgrade your weapons, get extra points, or get more humans. The humans are another means of getting points, and there are several different bonuses in addition to that to help you rack up a higher score. 8/10 Graphics: Things get a little bit hectic when playing on the later levels in Arcade or Survival mode. There are lots of enemies, explosions, lasers, and plenty of other things that fill up the screen and make things crazy. However, the game does a good job of not making the large amount of things on screen overwhelming, and it is still relatively easily to discern where and what things are. It does get a bit difficult to see the small rockets being shot at you, causing you to die accidentally, but it isn't a big deal. The visual effects are great and capture the feel of a retro arcade game well, while still maintaining a modern standard. The effects make the game feel much more exciting and it feels like you're doing a lot and that your actions make an impact on your enemies. 8/10 Music/Audio: The game does not use original music, but the developer made a good selection of music that fits the style of the game. The menu music is fun and the music during gameplay makes the game a lot more exciting. It helps the game feel like there is more exciting action going on in the simple gameplay, and it makes it less boring to sit around and shoot at little alien guys who are slowly coming closer to you. Original music would have been nice, but at least the selection of music was adequate. The sound effects for the game are very well implemented. Again, they are not original but the selections were very good and make the game a lot more fun and exciting. Explosions are nice to hear and there aren't many sound effects that repeat a lot and get annoying. All around, the sound design is pretty well done. 7/10 Conclusion: Overall, 1979 Invasion Earth is a surprisingly fun game. It copies basic mechanics from a classic game, but it adds a unique enough twist to make the game more exciting and fun. The gameplay is quite enjoyable and there are a couple different game modes to keep you entertained for at least a little while. The graphics are pretty well done, and the music and audio choices are great for the aesthetic of the game. I suggest checking this game out if you want to have some quick fun or want to reminisce about your Space Invaders days while still having a fresh experience.
7.5/10 - Recommended
TL;DR Pros: +Unique twist on Space Invaders gameplay +Colorful graphics +Fun gameplay +Cool retro music Cons: -Simple, little replayability -Unoriginal basic idea (Space Invaders clone) Check out my gameplay of 1979 Invasion Earth below to get a better idea of the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7mEIDRsgi0

В целом игра не плохая, да и цена на нее не слишком высока. jUST A SIMPLY PLAYABLE FUN GAME TO ENJOY!😎👍
Pumping up a classic, synthwave style! The game looks great and it plays very well, though it is an updated version of space invaders, it does play and feel like a classic arcade shooter.
It is a modern version of the classic game Space Invaders. Game type is the same extremely fun to waste time with the game. and Steam Leaderboards provide a competitive aspect to the game and makes it even more fun.
