I feel like this game had all the red flags in the trailer, ugly levels, filler music, and uncanny store icon, and yet, it's actually a very fun exploration game where you collect animals, I think if you enjoyed any creative RPGM games you'll probably have another game to add to that list (even though it seems to be made in Unity). The game is full of silly and random dialogue, I actually think the writing is very interactive because the characters are so random with the requests, you constantly have to interpret what exactly they want you to do. It's deceivingly heartwarming and reminds me of games like KilCount, just a fun and lighthearted experience that often made me think outside of the box. I was able to complete the story in 5 hours, although I missed some of the animals, you don't have to collect everyone, but it makes it easier in the end if you do. The exploration in general was the best part of the game, even though the level design is admittedly ugly, the way the game pulls you around is very thought-provoking in terms of figuring out how to progress, it's a bit convoluted but still enjoyable. I do wish some of the number puzzles were a bit more helpful with the hints, sometimes it's not very clear which hint is for which puzzle, you can mislead yourself if you try to open boxes before you get the correct solution. Even though the game is not translated particularly well, I still really enjoyed the funny dialogue and just how creative it was with the objectives. Obviously, the aesthetic was not the best part of the experience, I thought the levels looked like a collection of random tiles that don't go together, but in the end, there were so many charming characters, and I actually enjoyed the whole snake mechanic, it' kinda cute having 50-100 animals running after you. I think visually a game like this can get away with a lot, but you probably still want some consistency there - just so it does not look like you slapped random tiles together.
Pros:
(+) I assume the game was not translated well, but I still think the dialogue and the character personalities were very charming, and in general, the game is very creative with the quests so it's fun to actually help the characters with whatever they needed. It's one of those games that are extremely random and partially surreal, but that is the whole point, diving into a world that does not make a lot of sense. (Also, I thought the ending was very cool) (+) Decent amount of content and variety, probably 4 to 5 hours with a lot of creative exploration, minigames, and thought-provoking puzzles. I like how the exploration is not fully linear, sometimes you have to backtrack to find new events or characters in the previous areas. (+) As far as the puzzles I enjoyed the creativity, whenever the game wanted me to do something character specific, like using a 'long neck' to take something down, the game has a lot of warped logic where it requires a bit of imagination. Again, it is convoluted in a way, but I enjoyed most of the puzzles because they are designed around the character perks.
Feedback:
Number Puzzles/Mechanical Minigames - there were a few number puzzles that I could not put together naturally, I am not sure if it's me being stupid or something else going on with the interpretation. Some of the mini-games are a bit punishing, like pulling multiple vegetables is very tricky, plus the whole fighting minigame was annoying. Visuals - I am not really someone that cares about how good the game looks, I still think the animal train was adorable, but for the level design, it would help to have a more consistent aesthetic with tiles, the game does not have to be pretty but it needs its own style, I am sure people looking at the trailer and just see a trashy game, so it's a bit of a shame because it has some fun moments. Overall Thoughts: 7/10 If you don't mind the visuals, I think you will find a very creative and charming collection game, full of random and surreal quests, ugly and yet surprisingly wholesome adventure. It was not a great experience in every aspect, but it had many fun and memorable moments, with a strange twist in the end ;). Worth a play if you like weird exploration games.
Cute little game that doesn't overstay its welcome. Amass an army of neurotic and charming animals while solving light puzzles (mostly simple number ciphers), a sparse amount of mini-games (just enough to not be annoying), fishing, cooking, and roshambo'ing. While the game does have a text log, I suggest bringing a pen and paper for notes anyway. Once you get past about 50 animals, walking around becomes very funny. They sort of oversell the "each animal has an ability" thing. Only a few animals are specifically needed for some area obstacles, of which there aren't many (gratefully) and you will not be taking control of the animals. You will still want every single animal on your side though. The english translation leaves something to be desired but it's generally understandable. Language can be switched on the fly outside of dialogs without needing to soft reset or hard restart though I never felt the need to flip to japanese for clarity. If you are worried about the control schemes shown in the screenshots (eg the mobile game-esque arrows), know that this game supports controllers, keyboard (both direction keys and WASD), and mouse-based controls all at the same time. The UI adjusts depending on what input is currently being used, which I found very nice.
It's a cute short game that won't take you any more than five or six hours, but you can certainly beat it sooner than that. You run around a facility, recruiting enough animals to the point that you have a massive conga line that trails behind you. By the end of the game, your party will consist of 90ish-100 animals that trails clear off the screen. The puzzles aren't that difficult, but there's a couple headscratchers and the imperfect localization doesn't necessarily help (especially when it comes to the dreaded animals that want cooked food. It took me an uncomfortable amount of time to realize that when a recipe called for something to be "baked," you needed to select "Grill" on the cooking menu). Some of the music tracks can get a little annoying after you've gone through the same couple areas more than a few times, but they're generally inoffensive and you'll be more focused on remembering where to take what animal/item to which animal/obstacle to add the animal to the party/remove the obstacle. There's a lot of running around, and seeing all of your hundred animal friends trail behind you never gets old. Again, it's short, cute, and it's a nice time. You won't regret checking it out, especially at this price point. Also, for your sanity, write down every recipe as you come across it. There isn't a written guide and there isn't any forum threads that have done it for you.
