About
The Peabody Award winning 1000xRESIST is a thrilling sci-fi adventure. 1000 years in the future, humanity is all but extinguished and a disease spread by an alien occupation keeps the survivors underground. You are Watcher. You dutifully fulfil your purpose in service of the ALLMOTHER, until the day you learn a shocking secret that changes everything.

In the near future we learn we are not alone in the universe. A mysterious alien race of giant entities arrives. We call them the Occupants.
They are not hostile, but it doesn’t matter. Their arrival is a death sentence. Humanity is wiped out in a matter of months, succumbing to a disease the Occupants have brought to our planet.
There is one survivor, a teenage girl called Iris. Somehow she is immune.

1000 years later. Iris is not only immune but immortal. She has birthed a new society consisting exclusively of her own clones.
She calls them Sisters. They call her the ALLMOTHER.
Unlike the ALLMOTHER, the sisters are not immune. They must wear masks 24/7 to avoid breathing the diseased air even in the Orchard - an underground bunker where they live in constant fear of an Occupant attack.
The ALLMOTHER lives in her own compound on the front line of the war with the Occupants. All Sisters dream of one day being able to take the train and join her in the fight.

Within the Orchard, every sister has an assigned function, while six sisters have special roles to play…

Principal - Head of administration and oversight of the Orchard
Bang Bang Fire - Head of military
Knower - Head of knowledge preservation
Fixer - Head of engineering
Healer - Head of medical and cloning
And you - the new Watcher.
Your role is unique. You have the great privilege of reliving and interpreting the memories of the ALLMOTHER through a process known as Communion, made possible by Secretary, your floating AI companion.

As the game begins, you are excited to embark on your first Communion.
But all is not well.
Your closest sister, Fixer, comes to you with a dangerous revelation. You have been lied to. The ALLMOTHER is not what she claims to be.
Fixer’s claims rock the foundations of your world, throwing everything you know and believe into doubt.
After Fixer is executed for her treason, it falls to you to discover the truth.

Dive into the memories of the ALLMOTHER.
Explore pivotal moments in her life from high school days and the arrival of the Occupants to the creation of the Orchard and the birth of the first sisters.
Jump back and forth through moments in time within these memories to solve puzzles and access locked off areas and secrets.

In between Communions, explore the Orchard - a large underground hub area which houses you and your sisters, has many characters to speak to, and holds many things to uncover.
Find the truth and reclaim your legacy.

Experience perspective shifts both literal and metaphorical as the game blends between 3rd person adventure, visual novel and first person walking simulator while throwing twists, turns and revelations at you until you question everything you think you know.

Equally enthralling and frustrating. Just so slightly overstays its welcome, but has so many compelling things to say about generational trauma and cycles. Incredible beginning and end with a weak middle act. Lovely soundtrack. There is the you that remains and remains.
This has probably the best story in a video game I've ever played through. I'm so glad they stuck to their guns with an interactive storytelling experience rather than adding some middling action-RPG elements or obligatory minigames, because it just means more time for great characters, great environments, and shocking emotional gutpunches.
First paragraph is spoiler free, the rest aren't. The story covers an extremely wide breadth of topics that unfortunately are not treated seriously, never going past the surface level and facile analogies, and thus culminate in various inflexible and hypocritical endings, that do not believe in the humanity of their own characters. The game is clearly trying to say that, for freedom to thrive, it must be defended with violence. You may have problems with that statement when it is transposed to real life, but the game goes even further than that. The way that the game conveys this extremely simple message involves an essentially magical mass communion in which all beings share in each others' past, feelings, and knowledge. Despite this, certain characters still need to be killed, or otherwise they will simply kill the protagonist with a simple fade to black. This indicates to me that the writers are either not very confident in their own ideas (as this game is a political statement, which is fine in and of itself), or they believe that some people, fundamentally, cannot be reasoned with, even with tools that far surpass our own language and capacity for community. Certainly has troubling implications for their beliefs in real life, where these capabilities are diminished. This is not the only topic where the game is disagreeable or disappointing to me, but the one that I think it fails the hardest at. For positives... I did like some of the characters, the tension between them, and the tragedy of it all (until the ending soured me on that). I don't have anything else positive to say. As for the gameplay, it's essentially just walking around, and "zipping" to other places (it's just aiming and a button press). There's only one real gameplay challenge in the game, a timed zipping sequence, but the timer is extremely lenient. I'm ambivalent on the gameplay; I did not find it fun, but it did not get in my way of the enjoyment of the story, the story did (lol). I do think the time-jumping mechanic could've led to some fun movement puzzles, if it wasn't used so little, but I don't think that's what the team had in mind. Strongly recommend against. If you want a more interesting exploration of a similar idea to the mass communion, I would suggest Neon Genesis Evangelion.
deceptively short game. not many hours of gametime, but i had to play for 1 hour and then stare at the ceiling for 3 hours. absolutely stunning from start to finish 10/10

Story 8/10 Gameplay 3/10 Atmosphere 5/10 God, I was so disappointed in this game. It's got Overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam and the comments hail it as this beautiful narrative, and yea the story is really interesting, but it's bogged down by the egregious gameplay. The first tag on the store page really ought to be "walking simulator" because ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, that's 90% of the game. I don't mind a good walking sim, but the map is horrid. It's unnecessarily large, and super confusing to navigate. It's honestly impressive how they managed to make a 2ish story building that big of a pain to navigate. The other issue with the story is how bloated it is. The voice acting is "interesting" at best. The majority of the lines feel like they're being read by apathetic teenagers being forced to do popcorn reading in their AP lit class. It kinda fits the vibe of the game in a weird way, but I still cant help but be distracted by it.
TREMENDA JOYA
A beautifully made game with a fascinating story and profound themes of loss, the cost of resistance, cultural assimilation, and memory. Whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone that has the 10-15 hours to spare.
