Really enjoying this so far. Pretty well done.
I'm a fan of this series owning several previous games. But sadly when I tried to play "100 years war" my pretty good anti virus system really started freaking out over something called "IDP.Generic" that the game has.Looked up what the heck it is and frankly none the wiser but it really is a bad look when your new game is sus to say the least. I was really looking forward to this game but certainly don't want a bar of it now..Don't they check their games prior to release? Seems not- refunded...
At last with 5 minutes of this game to my credit, I can finally post a review. Here goes: the game won't start. It says that it is running but fizzles after a few seconds. I've also noticed that all my other Hex War titles now fail to start. These games shouldn't be marketed until they are finished and ready to play. Not asking for a refund. At this point I should know better than to purchase from these folks.

Game set during the 100 Years' War. Plays like most HexWar Games. Decent. Worth it for the war game enthusiast.
100 Years War is a fun game. Mildly addictive as all good games are. A few minor quibbles. Archers and crossbowmen are perhaps a little too powerful. Almost every battle can be won by the effective use of archers/crossbows. For historical inaccuracy though this pales in comparison to artillery which is far too effective. It fires every go and inflicts significant damage. There are a (very) few glitches in the software; in one battle a unit of cavalry suddenly galloped to the corner of the board, a distance that would normally take about six goes to cover. Sometimes archers cannot fire for no apparent reason. Light infantry can almost always run away from cavalry rather than being simply slaughtered. The scenarios are varied and interesting and each is given a brief historical introduction. Often there is more than one way to win. For the price it is fantastic value.
Very fun
An enjoyable, but not too demanding, game with plenty of scenarios to play through and a range of different troop types.
If you like tabletop wargames, you'll like hexwar games. The 2d makes life easy and there's little learning curve.Almost all hexwar games use the same system, and they cover a wide range of history. Low tech, old school's not a bad thing!
I'm reviewing Steam games in alphabetical order, and you can watch my review here: https://youtu.be/IIZl0K0Wx4M Prefer to read? Playing 100 Years' War is like taking an 8 hour long history lesson from the most boring person you've ever met, and even they aren't passionate about it. This is a hex-based strategy game, which is meant to focus on historical battles. In reality, it's got the first part, and the second is used just to loosely tie together campaign battles. It's also worth mentioning that this is a mobile port, and the mobile version is cheaper. Ultimately this game is simply boring. The base game and mechanics are fairly solid, there's a wide range of units with varying armour, weapons and movement types, but everything fails to feel impactful due to a lack of connection with anything happening in the game. Maybe it's my bias and preferences showing, but battles felt unsatisfying because the odds of a successful hit were rarely above 50%, and both sides were often the same. There is little you can do to gain an advantage in battle, and what mechanics exist are very poorly explained with several UI elements either never being touched on, or not even appearing on the screen correctly. Archers and ranged units are over-powered due to their mobility and ability to counter-attack (maybe true to the historical period, but being able to kite a melee unit indefinitely doesn't feel fair). The biggest miss is the lack of any kind of multiplayer support, which with the English vs French setting would've made sense to include. This game fails to be a fun strategy game, and fails to be a fun history game.
This is an excellent and historically accurate game, Before playing I will usually watch a documentary on the battle Im playing, to get an idea how to move my troops, etc
