100 Marshmallow Cats

[H1]Hidden cats are fun. Hidden behind pop-ups, less so.[/H1] At this point, everyone knows my relationship with 100 Cozy Games: I complain, I sigh, and then I somehow keep playing because hidden cat games are my weakness. This time though, I had a decent 4 min experience. The environment is bright and fun, the zoom is excellent (seriously, you can go from seeing the whole picture to inspecting the head of a needle), hints recharge almost instantly without affecting achievements, and all the usual QoL options are present: brightness, fullscreen, sound sliders, full reset, plus both Color and Black & White modes. Best of all? The cats actually look like cats this time. It's a small miracle, but I'll take it. The usual issues haven't gone anywhere, though. The game contains only a single, minuscule level. I spent more time thinking about this review than playing the game. The price remains incredibly high for the amount of content on offer, even during sales, and the achievement list is still the usual "one achievement / cat" ratio. There's also an old annoyance making a comeback. A few months ago, I pointed out that some cats were hidden behind Steam achievement pop-ups. The developers said they were working on it, and the issue seemed gone for a while, until now. Even at maximum zoom, one cat can still end up sitting right behind the achievement notifications. Since achievements unlock constantly in a game this short, those pop-ups are everywhere. That's not a clever hiding place. It's a cheap trick, and I know the developers can do better. Still, I enjoyed this one more than several other entries from the studio. The atmosphere is fun, the cats are recognizable, and the hunt itself is pleasant while it lasts. It's absolutely still an achievement farm and it's absolutely still expensive for what you get, but you probably knew that before clicking this page. As long as you're making an informed purchase, my job here is done. I just wish 100 Cozy Games would stop hiding cats behind pop-ups and at least give us back two-level games for that price. It is not a game where you need to overthink or solve complicated challenges; instead, you can simply enjoy searching for the hidden cats and decompress after a long day. Some cats are cleverly hidden, making the discovery process enjoyable, while the hint system is there to help whenever you cannot find one. The artwork and music fits together nicely and create a cozy atmosphere. Overall, it is a charming and calming game that offers a pleasant way to relax. Short, but fun. Definitely will buy more games from this Developer. Love the graphics. 10/10
