This is a very fun game, unfortunately if you are unlucky enough for the game to crash on you all your progress will be reset, I've had this happen twice to me and I cannot be bothered to restart all progress a third time. Hopefully the devs will fix this issue cause I consider it to be game breaking and it ruins my experience deeply. I'm looking forward to playing this game when this issue is fixed and will happily change the review
The characters (mostly) have very poorly scaling abilities and the deck you start with is utterly useless. This isn't even like Slay the Spire where defends are like kinda okay to survive early and you have some potential to either use them in late game and you have some cards that actually do stuff later. This deck gives you a deck of 13 garbage bricks that can with some luck sometimes make it out of round 1 (you can actually lose this with no chance sometimes, game design!) - The main strategy is to make money, which you get Balatro style by having plays left over. So the main way to beat this game is to completely disregard your starting strategy and character ability and reroll into one of the few early game bombs (nothing you get early game is worthwhile to scale) to make money and snowball it with some of the money relics. This game has a really cool idea but is overbalanced to hell and back and about 90% of animals in this game are just utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that don't do anything useful for any build.

Super cute, super fun, super tough, and super interesting puzzle roguelite. I can't win a run higher than assistant level right now, but that's actually a good thing. All this needs is a workable controller scheme for the Deck, and it'll be damn near perfect imo
The white folk will love this game.
Zoominoes is a great game! It is fun gameplay wise, but I especially enjoy the sound design and art! Each animal makes a cute little sound/call when you click them. I like the lemur the best because it goes WOO. :)
In a world where there are a million different number-go-up roguelites taking a page out of Balatro's book, this one stands out - definitely one of the ones you should NOT skip - and this becomes clear very quickly. The tile laying aspect - a natural fit for this genre - requires adjacent tiles to share types which in turn offers the player a toothsome puzzle, and something interesting to manage about their deck. The diversity of interactions give the player a lot of avenues for the player to find powerful combos. In some games of this genre, the mechanics are too shallow and the combos too obvious to feel satisfying. Zoominoes does it right, and it pays off the genre's promise: Players who keep their eyes out for the stars aligning will be rewarded for spotting cool opportunities.
I stumbled upon Zoominoes in late 2025 and accrued 300 hours of game play from the demo. The full release of Zoominoes brings so much more exciting content with new zookeepers and abilities, as well as a variety of different challenges and new special events to navigate. I love the daily challenges and being able to compare how I go to other players and try to improve on my score each day. My favourite thing about Zoominoes is that there is a hundred different ways to play and win (or lose) at the game. It's easy to pick up and learn the game play mechanics, but can be challenging to master, requiring lots of trial and error to see which animals, zookeepers and souvenirs create the best synergy to beat the run. There is no real right or wrong way to play and you can have fun implementing your own self imposed challenges along the way, making it super enjoyable and replayable. In short; a super fun, cute and crazy addictive game!
Absoulutely amazing game, I know everyone keeps comparing it to Balatro, but it's really unique in the way the animals do their thing! It's not just a numbers get bigger game, it's really informed by the theme. Even the little things, it's clear the developer went above and beyond. Like the Zookeeper that benefits from black tiles, starting with ravens AND when he dies (because he's a goth) he's got a little coffin case animation. All that little extra dressing that they didn't NEED to include to make the game better but did. As for the gameplay it's got surprising depth, the amount of stuff you'd be shocked combos exactly how you think it would (without also thinking 'no way the dev lets me do that') is nuts. And the animals all feel real. For example, all the squids, krakens and octopuses relate to turning tiles black with ink, and making your hand stronger, birds have relics that give bonuses when played in the top line (or the 'sky') and fish and coral get bonuses being played in the bottom line ('the sea')
Interesting game with a great premise and mechanics, I want to like it but there are aspects that make me hesitate to recommend: - Trainer variety is there, but most of them frankly aren't very good or an active hindrance at higher difficulties rather than providing a real incentive that can be benefitted from. - Highest difficulties are a little overtuned, especially Curator difficulty. Getting past the first few rounds is very RNG dependent on getting synergistic offers in the first and second rounds. - The game in general is too RNG, it would help a lot if the animals presented to you each round were weighted based on trainer and/or non-starter animals you have already added to the deck, currently it feels completely random. - Starter decks are almost universally terrible and, again, an active hindrance rather than feeling like a baseline to work from, many decks you want to remove all starter cards even the specialty ones. - The shop doesn't come every day (every 3-4 rounds I think?), although you wouldn't get enough money to spend anyways. And no interest! Depending on if you get lucky to find money scaling souvenirs, you are either a prince or a pauper at higher difficulties. Rerolling feels very cheap at low tiers and very expensive and punishing at high tiers. - Scaling options are too few and far between compared to how many animals/souvenirs simply don't contribute much beyond a bit higher point value. You do not have the resources to be adding all these fun-eh-maybe-but-actually-trap animals/souvenirs to your deck that you are already needing to thin out, and they take up precious shop/offering slots. Basically less RNG, more useful options/synergies please, there are so many more cool things we could be doing with these mechanics!
This game is amazing, but i am experiencing a game breaking bug where placed objects end up hovering and become impossible to interact with. this requires a full restart of the game and kills any amount of flow. I cannot recommend this game while this glitch persists
