So far from what I played it is exactly how the game FTL feels it isn't a carbon copy of it and to be completely honest I like how hard the game is! You can overclock your systems in this one versus FTL and I do like the little 3D aspect of it. One thing I do have a little trouble with is the pacing in the early stages of the game it is a little hard at first for newcomers who aren't used to a game like this so I hope we can see a good tutorial battle in the future to help with that but other than that I got nothing bad to say about this game. FYI to all I got the game for free from the developers and being completely honest in my review, I do enjoy FTL and a game like this does meet the tickle that I got when I played FTL!
It's not awful but it is bland and generic. It's impossible to recommend this game.

Why not? It promises to be FTL in 3d. With a 3d ship interior and 3d model crew moving from station to station. It looks fun but it isn't. It's much less than "FTL in 3d". What it is is FTL's core game mechanics but without all the nice touches that elevated the experience of playing and suffering in FTL. The part that is fun is the weapons and combat/targeting, upgrading ship systems, traveling from point to point etc. The new 3d gimmick plays much worse unfortunately, and other additions are few and of mixed quality. I don't mind FTL-like games existing. Doom-likes and rougelikes, or metroidvanias. I sometimes want more of the same. But this is considerably less of the same. How? Towards the end of development, subset games hired a professional writer to go over event text and dialogues, and it shows. Even though the story and writing is simple, it is GOOD!. In Zero Point, everything you read is boring and mundane. FTL mods put more effort into writing. Then there's the music. It's not bad but it's generic. It does nothing. FTL paid attention to color-blindness, Zero Point makes zero effort to do something similar. And it's FTL hard. But you just die and get dumped to the main menu. There are highscores but they are pointless. Just start a new game with some nobodies without any character or charm, die again and keep repeating until it's no longer fun.

The biggest flaw of Zero Point is that it exists. Somebody had to make this. It's a shame they did an ok job technically but failed to put anything FUN into the game. The design document must have been simple, as it basically copied the elements from FTL. Nothing wrong with that. Then a game was built according to spec, and... that was it. No effort anywere. nothing stands out. No clever writing, no fun hook. There are a couple of innovations: - the 3d ships and some bizzare time dilation mechanic that replaces pausable realtime of the game that inspired Zero Point. - replacing the warp gate battle with an intercept chance. The exit is always unguarded but every node you visit raises this chance by 1-2%. If you get intercepted, you have to fight a very tough battle but if you win you reset the intercept chance. - characters are voiced. I wish they weren't. They say a few lines and it quickly gets dull. If you want to play some FTL like combat in a 3d setting then you wont waste much money. But it is the time wasted playing this that is the problem. Life is short and there are so many good games. This does not deserve more than a couple of hours, if that. It might be fun on a tablet or portable device. It feels designed for such devices and it doesn't look so good on a desktop.

I have a few nice things to say about it, but bottom line is it's bad. Not worth playing. If you've never played FTL, play that. It's superior. If you have played FTL, just play FTL.
Received a review code for this game, reviewed an hour last night. Summary: lots of potential, good style and challenging gameplay in a clean, concise package. However, in its current state in early access, the difficulty curve is extremely steep and RNG plays hell with starting runs. I've had several runs start and end on the very first ship I encounter because they spawn with weapons that outclass the starting kit. It's like FTL but without the progression mechanics. One of my biggest gripes is the inability to control the game's volume, as the game is missing a volume slider for both game volume and music volume. Verdict: support the devs so they can keep adding features and polishing the game up. It's got potential but limited replayability in this current early access state.
An excellent rogue-like game, a continuation of the ideas set by the FTL game. Paving the way through 4 sectors (the early access has just begun, they will be longer for the race) the civilian sector, the robot race sector, the rebel sector, the mercenary sector, the pirate sector (except for 1, it is always civilian, the rest are randomized), the Star Federation ship under the control of the player must intercept the super weapon ship of the rebel forces. By extracting a mineral in battles and events, which is the currency in the local galaxy, you can pump ship compartments for it, or repair ship and buy weapons or an additional crew from merchants (who may not appear on the sector map). This game has excellent musical accompaniment and interesting visual style. So I look forward to further progress of early access and development of this game.
Thanks for the review code Studio Zero! There's definitely an adjustment going from FTL to Zero Point. 3-D graphics are nice. I'm still working on figuring out the UI for power allocation for primary systems and I'm unsure if sub systems, do they require reactor power? That'll come with more game play. The only con I have for this game is that I'm unable to window the game for streaming. It seems like it's only full screen. Bottom line, it's a lot fun so far. It's just going to take more game play to figure the ins and outs of events, which weapons do what, limitations, and power allocation. It was the same thing when I started FTL years ago.
EDIT - changed review to negative... nothing added, nothing changed, nothing to see here. Don't waste your time. While this is admittedly another FTL clone that is ultimately inferior it does replicate much of originals charm and so I will narrowly recommend. However, I will change my review to negative if the developers fail to - relatively quickly - implement new features that set it apart from the game that inspired it. I like the 3D elements and how you can interact with the environment like stoking the ships pet or opening the doors by clicking on them. I'd like more fun features involving that. I'd like more away mission scenarios, teleporting to abandoned stations, ghost ships, mysterious mining outposts. Maybe even simple planetary away missions to make exploration interesting. I think the writing is pretty good too which is important as this has been lacking in other FTL clones and the multiverse mod. Basically the game is good but it needs a lot more to sustain my interest
