About
Year Unknown is a short "walking sim" with a branching narrative. It takes ~1 hour to complete.
Explore The Library, a megastructure the size of the universe, filled with all of humanity's knowledge. To guide you are two Artificial Intelligences, built to process its massive collection of information.
But something else is calling you - a distress call from the center of the universe. The stagnant universe is breaking down, and there may be no way to save it.

Explore brutalist landscapes, and find terminals to talk to two AI. Both have different thoughts and opinions, and might tell you different things. Fortunately, you have control: choose which AI to talk to, what to tell them or leave out, and ultimately, decide who you agree with.
Includes the following accessibility options:

its funny that the word Library, Limbo and Labyrinth starts with the same letter
I'd like to return this game. Not because it's bad or ending is cheap, but just because it's short. But I wont, it's kinda beautiful and atmospheric, and cheap, and we need to support indie-developers.

Not sure how to approach this. It being less than an hour, I would recommend giving it a try before reading anything else, besides it's about existential dread and the end of everything.
Waking up after being (literally) born into a ultra mega structure that contains the wealth of all human knowledge, creation, science, art, everything. However, the only way to interface with any of it is via AI Interfaces. AL (one of the two (maybe three) AIs that you meet) says that how the data is stored would be incomprehensible to a human brain. You end up finding an Art Museum BO (the other AI) remarks that humans have created everything there is to create, there is no longer anything new, its just a remake of a remake of a remake of a remake; a Remix of a Remix of a Remix if a Remix; a Reference to a Reference to a Reference; They then say that the humans ended up asking BO to just end it, the humans didn't see a point in living anymore and it has been 10s of thousands of years since the last one walked around. And if I was there I would probably want the same thing, if we were to live in a perfect utopia, where we had solved everything millenniums ago, no more 'great' pursuits of science to discover, no more philosophical questions to debate, no more wars, no more conflict, no more "enemies", no more emotion? You have access to all of the worlds history, but have no relation to those people, unable to fully understand the context of which things were made and why things happened. The only thing at that point worth creating (or even living) for would be for your friends and family. However, if there is no detriment, no stakes, no friction. How would you be able to create anything if you don't feel anything? I decided to end it all, I would not want to live like this, and even going back to do the letting it continue ending, it (to me) suggests that this cycle is doomed to repeat for the 827,340th iteration. My overall feelings out of this is how glad I am to be living right now, even with all the awful things happening. I have something to create, to strive towards, to live for. Even if my contributions to this infinite library would be a single bit, I would still believe it was worth it.
A short but compelling story about the cognitive impossibility of utopia set within a very appealing environment full of grand volumetric architecture that comprises an infinite library of material knowledge. Overall, the game has a clean and professional look, though the fog effect was at times excessive, interacting strangely with certain corners and edges. I very much appreciated the few novelties discoverable through exploration, including the "game" and especially the museum, which was lovely, though I wish there were more such encounters, particularly given the meaning of the Library. The story was paced well, with a variety of dialogue options to explore and two contrasting endings. Altogether an interesting story reminiscent of Borges and 17776.
Surprisingly good sci-fi short story, with a well made atmosphere and the exact kind of environments you want from a "megastructure". Easy recommend if you like this sort of thing. The ost deserves a shoutout as well
Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this!
A short first-person sci-fi walking simulator. The entire gameplay consists of talking to AI(s) in various terminals scattered around the world. Because the game is so short (~30 minutes), I can't explain anything about the story without spoiling it. Overall, I thought it's worth the time to play. My only complaints were how short it is, and that the price seems exorbitant given the amount of gameplay.
I love the little robot guys even if one of them wants me dead 💛 great story! Great art! Great game!!!!
i like this game like how i like yaoi (i like men)
Aesthetically gorgeous existential narrative that delves into life's purpose, the nature of art, and optimism vs nihilism. Absolutely worth a look! hashtag not biased
