Ye Fenny - Revenge of the Evil Good Shepherd is simply worth the buy if you are into retro top down shooters and hilarious fmv sequences. This is a game that made me think a lot about Roundabout when it came to the cutscenes. You can tell that they just had a lot of fun crafting these scenes and the story. There are 31 different fmv sequences for the story. I haven't discovered debug mode yet, but I'm hoping it gives you the ability to replay cutscenes. The game is for the most part a top down shooter. There are nine stages to this game each offering different enemies, goals, and sometimes play style. There are some levels you are underwater, some you are on a raft that is constantly moving down a river, and some where you are walking around. In between levels you can buy things at a shop using in game currency to help you out, including different weapons. There are four different weapons. I ended up buying the shotgun which shoots a lot like a spread gun and sticking with it the entire game. There are two different endings to the game depending on how many fennians you rescue in the game. I didn't have to many gripes with this one especially at the asking price. There were a few times it was hard to see because of overhead objects. Inside the barn is definitely an area I remember being troublesome. The gameplay doesn't get badly repetitive because you do something a little different each stage. The shooting mechanic is okay but I would have personally preferred a twinstick mechanic. You can fire forward or backwards from the direction you are facing by pressing buttons and this can sometimes be difficult to shoot exactly where you want to shoot. Coming in around 3 hours you will get plenty of worthwhile gameplay out of the cheap price.
Pros
+Cheap +Great fmv cutscenes +Gameplay doesn't get repetitive +Variety of weapons and enemies
Mix/Con?
~/- Objects can sometimes obstruct view ~/- Shooting mechanic would be better as a twinstick shooter If fmv style scenes don't make you uncomfortable and you can get a good laugh out of them than go ahead and pick this one up. The story and scenes alone are interesting enough and as a nice little bonus the gameplay is worthwhile.
What can i say about Ye Fenny? Well, I'll start off by saying that it's a seriously fun game that's not to be taken seriously. They obviously put a lot of love in to this game, but you can tell that they also had a right laugh making it. As you can see by the other comments, the FMV sequences are hilarious. This is where a lot of the games humour comes from. They are reminiscent of FMV games from the 90s, silly and cheesy, but you can tell it's intentional. The Old Whiplin had me in stitches. The gameplay is like a top town shooter. Think Gauntlet with Commander Keen graphics. Proper old school goodness. The music is another huge part of the game. It's heavily stylised with synthy sounds and pounding beats. Reminds me of the 90s crack scene where cracked games featured rave-type music before them. Really quality stuff. Would I recommend the game? Absolutely 100% It's only cheap, so pick it up and give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
Fun and Addictive retro-esque game with brilliantly hilarious FMV cutscenes that will have you howling with laughter! This is a game with gameplay which is easy to pick up, and the rich story will keep you interested for the whole ride. Beware of the more diffecult game modes though, that easy to pick up gameplay, soon becomes hard to master when you've got a giant genital boss to defeat LOL!
great game! love the cut scences, plays out like a little film, hopefully see the 2nd one soon????
love the humour and retro style of this! cut scenes are pure 90's - think mega CD or 3DO :)
Check out this crazy indie game, it has some of the madest cutscenes I've seen for years and it's a fun little shooter too, I'm still working my way through it.

A hilarious bonkers game, that has 'cult classic' written all over it! The kind of imagination and dedication needed to create something so brilliantly bizzare is the reason the indie gaming scene exists. Well worth the extremly reasonable £2. Can't wait for Ye Fenny 2!
Quite reminiscent of a few retro games with some really amusing FMV style cutscenes. Gameplay is fun and doesn't get repetitive, as each level offers something different.
