Das a good game

At 113 hours in, I can confidently say Yakuza: Like a Dragon is one of the best RPGs I've ever played. The switch to turn-based combat was a bold move and it paid off. It's got depth without being overwhelming, and watching Ichiban's over-the-top imaginary attacks play out never gets old. The job system gives you plenty of room to experiment with builds, and the party chemistry (both mechanically and narratively) is top-notch. But the real magic is the story and characters. Ichiban Kasuga is an instantly lovable protagonist, earnest to a fault, and the supporting cast is some of the strongest in the series. The writing balances heavy drama with the series' signature absurdity in a way that shouldn't work but absolutely does. One minute you're dealing with corporate corruption and political conspiracy, the next you're helping a guy collect toiler paper or singing karaoke. Yokohama is a fantastic new setting, dense with stuff to do. Side stories, substories, minigames, the business management arc, Part-Time Hero quests, there's always something pulling your attention. And somehow none of it feels like filler. Poundmates, Sujidex, the Battle Arena, the crafting and gear upgrade systems, the list goes on. The game respects your time investment by giving you meaningful content throughout, not just padding the back half. Pros: - Phenomenal cast and writing - Deep and satisfying turn-based combat - Tons of meaningful content - Incredible soundtrack - Ichiban is a national treasure Cons: - Some job progression feels grindy - A few difficulty spikes that come out of nowhere - You'll lose entire evenings without realizing it Verdict: 10/10. Give me more Ichiban immediately. If you're on the fence about the genre shift, don't be. This is Yakuza at its finest, just wearing a new jacket. Played through it twice and still want to go back.
