X: Tension

This is when X truly became X. Buy it, put about 150 hours into XBTF, then XT, then X2, read all the books, then open up x3, finish all the dlc, everyting, then move onto rebirth for something a little different, not terrible, just not like the previous games. Then X4. X4 is it boys and girls... that is legit awesome.

Excellent follow-up to the first game. However, this is more of a game for fans of Egosoft's X-series. For newbies, I recommend looking at X2, or one of the X3 titles. With that being said, this is WAY more accessible than the first game, with an enormous number of useful features being added. This game is very light on plot, so some players may pass it over if they prefer a more story-driven game. There is exactly one plotline, which is unlocked fairly late (you need good relations with the Paranid) and which is quite difficult, so you will want to take your time and expand your resources before starting it. There are some annoyances. Viewing sectors that you are not in REQUIRES a navsat in that sector. This also goes for using the jumpdrive and ordering ships. If you are not in the sector and do not have a navsat there, then you CANNOT jump to that sector or give orders to your ships and stations there. People coming from X2 or newer games will probably find this very irritating. There are also some other details, like a lack of sell orders for trade ships, for example. In general, the complexity is higher than the first game but still much lower than X2. This game is complete enough that you might play for some time after finishing the plot, but due to the aforementioned annoyances and lower quality compared to later games you probably would not make this your mainstay as an X-series fan. The first game in the series to really nail the 'I could just keep playing this for hundreds of hours' feeling is X2: The Threat. In my opinion. Compatibility-wise it suffers from similar issues to the first game. Compatibility with versions of Windows newer than 7 is flaky at best. Linux users may have an easier time as the game works on Proton Experimental as of September 2024. However, while the game is more stable than the first on Proton, intermittent crashes are still a problem. And NPC portraits are still broken. GE-Proton9-11 made the game more stable and fixed the portrait issues. Lutris' Wine-GE also works and was more stable than GE-Proton in my experience. Pretty good considering its age. Definitely one of my least played X games though. I jumped from the original straight to X2 so I had barely touched this until recently when I finally got around to finishing it.

Works on win 10 just fine. However, using the mouse to steer the ship is awful. Thankfully, you can use a controller to control the ship and use keyboard controls for everything else. The gameplay is very similar to X:BTF but slightly improved and expanded upon. There's missions you can accept, you can fly any ship (Except destroyers and carriers) and there's more sectors to explore.

X: Tension é uma expansão de X: Beyond the Frontier sem campanha e totakmente focada no sandbox, de certa forma muito parecida com os jogos mais atuais. O jogo funciona bem pelo tempo que testei, mas os jogos mais novos são BEM melhores, tanto em gráficos, quanto em gameplay. A razão do meu "não" é que se for pra jogar sandbox compro o X mais novo que você conseguir, até o X2 é bem melhor que esse jogo, Beyond the Frontier pelo menso têm uma história diferente (que também não é uma maravilha, mas funciona), só compre se for pra colecionar. --------------------- X: Tension is an expansion for X: Beyond the Frontier with no campaign and completely focused on the sandbox, in a way very similar to the most recent games. The game works well for the time I tested it, but the newer games are MUCH better, both in graphics and gameplay. The reason I said "no" is that if I'm going to play a sandbox game, I'll buy the newest X you can get, even X2 is much better than this game. At least Beyond the Frontier has a different story (which isn't great either, but it works). Only buy it if you're going to collect it.

I last played the X series back in 2010, and that was already an old game but a classic for me. I own the box version with hardcopy manual, but bought them on steam again just to ensure I would not loose this gem. The X-Beyond the Frontier is a bit too rough for me to play through the whole story again. I believe there are some YouTube video of the whole storyline as a quick playthrough if you want to see it again. The X-Tension on Steam, thanks to the latest updates from egosoft, has an easier user interface and is more of an open world introducing you to the "X" universe that we then play with X2, X3, X4 .. but at least in X-Tension you can get in your ship's pilot seat. You can access special options with "Shift O"; use that to disable the missions until you are ready for it, and also incease the SETA speed multiplier. If you have a slow start grinding to get a better ship, I don't know if the old bug of ejecting in front of the shipyard and trying ti select a mammoth as your ship still works ; I did two different save files, send them to ChatGPT 3o and told him how many credits I had in each file, to help isolate where the value is stored, and asked to change my credits to 150 millions: I see no point spending days grinding and took the fastline to start building. The game is usually somewhere around 5€ and is now less than 1€ ; don't pass on it .. even at 5€ I would buy if I did not have it already. The game has Steam cloud save, can change screen resolutions, can adjust keyboard layount, etc etc etc ... the ONLY negative I could find, which really can't be blamed for a game which is over 20 years ols, is that there is no Steam Success or trading cards for it. that's OK for me since I cheated with the cash anyway.

A basic space trading game. Not overly complicated. You trade, upgrade your ship, make money. Buy bigger ships and eventually space stations or factories. Different races have to be able to trust you though before you can trade with them. And there is a few story lines or missions to follow. Simple but engrossing.
