What this game should have gotten - and is desperately missing - is a lot of polish. It controls fine with a controller, but the game only tells you the keyboard keys. The Inventory looks like a grid, but in order to get to the second row, you have to go to the right end... The story (as far as I could play) is minimal, but even the first characters use weird words an broken grammar like a automatic translation. You also need to keep talking to people until they repeat themselves... The first boss didn't spawn. To the credit of the developer, this bug was fixed. You can jump around and kill... other people (who, why?), but for some unfathomable reason, there is a hunger meter and you need to eat mushrooms every few minutes. Your bullets may be fast, but you need a fair few to down enemies, that just respawn when you come back. You can see the objects move into position before the screen fades during screen transitions... I wouldn't even mind it all that much if it where fun, but it isn't. After beating the first boss, I explored everywhere I could go, rescued some guy and got basically stuck with nowhere to go and nothing to do. From the rest of the game, the chances are pretty good that this is either another bug or some badly communicated thing you need to do. I don't care to find out, there are better games to play.

Great artstyle, fast pace, chill music. Some bugs along the way, but that does not diminish the fun

Steam is drowning in thousands of lazy, low-effort 2D platformers, and "Wreckdigger" is yet another one. I'm not kidding, there's over 17,000 platformers on Steam, almost all of them are garbage, amateur kitbashes. This is not one of the good ones. This "metroidvania" style platformer is a clunky mess to play, and the rather weak backstory about being stuck on a planet full of wrecked spaceships doesn't really make up for the even weaker gameplay and obsolete format. In the modern era of high quality bleeding edge PC gaming, these kinds of flat, lazy, lackluster platformers just don't cut it. Platforming is a dead genre for a reason. Even though this is "free", it failed to attract any interest for gamers here on Steam Direct for obvious reasons. This looks a lot like it was designed for consoles, but released on Steam instead by mistake. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this never made it to the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. This game fails on the visuals because of the use of incredibly lazy, ugly pixelcrap. The developer would probably argue this is a "deliberate artistic choice" but we all know it's because the developer was incapable of producing anything better. The game looks very poor compared to professionally developed games. Whether the developer lacked the skill or the budget for modern visuals is irrelevant; the choice detracts from the game. Gaming is a visual medium, and it's a disservice to gamers when developers don't bother doing their jobs and creating contemporary, high quality visuals. Games like Undertale and Stardew Valley are rare exceptions that succeeded in spite of their awful graphics. Pixelcrap is never really okay, and there's no excuse for games that look this bad. This game is fairly dated at 5 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. This was made with the godawful "GameMaker Studio" construction kit/toolset, which is popular amongst amateur developers because it handholds you through making really crap 2D games that you can publish for $100 on Steam Direct. This lets you pat yourself on the back for pretending to be a real game developer, which explains why GameMaker Studio is responsible for so much ignored garbage on Steam. GameMaker Studio has never really been used to make a truly successful game, but that doesn't stop people from trying and failing. It's a particularly bad game engine that can only be used for making low quality 2D products. Like this. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, as the old saying goes. Another reason this particular game wasn't successful. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $5 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. A peak of 2 concurrent players (according to SteamDB) for a "free" game is a disastrous public reception. Out of 130 million potential players here on Steam, almost nobody was interested. Even though this is "free". That level of rejection speaks a lot for the quality of the game. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "nope". While it won't necessarily cost you money, the time and hard drive space it requires could be better invested in one of the many higher quality alternatives on Steam.

It's frustrating. The controls are jank . Even the options menu is jank. There are no options really. It's almost as if whoever made this just made it to Bethesda or a bad joke.
Before I played Wreckdigger, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
