World of Tanks is a tactical action game with very different gameplay depending on the vehicle type and role. Aside from regular PvP, there are competitive and clan-based modes, special PvE and PvPvE events, and much more. Whether you play to dominate or just enjoy the ride, you'll fit right in.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. The player count below is how many people own it, not what they spent.

About
World of Tanks offers something for everyone: Try different tactics, vehicles, and modes!
World of Tanks has a unique pace. Its armored vehicles are fast enough to draw you into the action, yet slow enough to give you time to think strategically. Good reflexes are always a plus, but it's smart and bold moves that can really turn the tide of a battle. Identify a weak spot in the enemy team's defense, move to an advantageous position at just the right moment, or ambush an opponent—and you'll feel like a champion.
The unique pace is yours to control: there are five vehicle types that each play very differently. Generally, light tanks rely on their speed and stealth, heavy tanks on their armor, and mediums on versatility. Tank destroyers (TDs) are feared damage dealers, and self-propelled guns (SPGs) hurl shells at enemies from afar, using an RTS-like view. Almost every one of the 800+ highly detailed vehicles, spread over 11 tiers and 11 nations, feels special.
Begin with classic tanks and progress toward mighty high-tier machines. Adjust their performance to better suit your unique playstyle with crew perks, equipment, and Field Modification. Top that off with visual customization: showcase each vehicle's unique flair with custom paints, styles, and a wealth of other options.
World of Tanks has received multiple and extensive upgrades to its graphics and physics since its launch in 2010. The maps feature unique landmarks and plenty of destructible objects. Vehicles get wet when in water, and they receive shell breaches from enemy rounds that penetrate, as well as pockmarks from rounds that bounce off. Guns and shell explosions have authentic, caliber-dependent sounds, and the acoustic environment is very rich, adding to immersion.
The basic mode is 15v15 Random Battles. Prominent regular modes include Onslaught (7v7 with extra special abilities), Frontline (30v30 on colossal maps with lots of tactical options such as airstrikes), and Steel Hunter (battle royale on mode-specific vehicles with field upgrades). On top of that, there are themed PvE and PvP events with unique rewards, clan-only Global Map and clan-based Strongholds, and more!
World of Tanks is hard to master but easy to learn and enjoyable from the get-go. As a rookie, learn the basics from the Bootcamp scenarios, face easier opponents in lower-tier battles, and complete the Tank Academy missions for appealing rewards. A seasoned tanker friend can get you into the Referral Program, bagging great benefits for both of you.

Pay-to-Win ammo is a must to be effective. It's a 15-minute camping simulator where you will lose if you dont have a Pay2Win tank stocked with Pay2Win ammo and Pay2Winmodules all over it.
This game will never change; IT CANNOT CHANGE [I played this game since 2012 and left around 2017 (but I have been looking at it from time to time) so, while outdated, i don't expect much of this to change] The core of World of Tanks is fun But its surrounded by things that make it from annoying to infuriating 15 vs 15 is a cool idea that gives fight a sense of scale and epicness. It also gives a chance of newer players to learn how to play by sticking to a safe place and learn from it, but it usually ends up punishing any type of misplay so hard that it teaches the player to not even try, in turn, making them camp or not take advantage of a good situation The tier system was an interesting concept from the pre-matchmaking/MMO origins this game has to keep the new players to certain playstyles on lower tiers, while people who already knew more about their tanks could skip this and go straight to higher tiers. The reality is that it created a weird way of smurfing that doesn't even require a new account to do, punishes anyone in a grind by putting them in a match that their tank is unprepared for, divided the community so hard, putting experienced players all over the place depending if they were grinding, playing seriously or chilling, so bad, matches that NEED matchmaking (like tier 10) don't have it. These two are my biggest complaints, and in any other game, they would be heard and changed, but here, they cannot be changed. The reason is the economy, or more specifically, economies. So many economies to handle, the credits to do any kind of tank management, experience to tamper any kind or change of playstyle any player wants to do, crew experience to make the long time players even better (even if, in theory, the abilities sound cool), experience for experience, free experience, etc. In turn, these systems create the bigger problem of grinding, so much grinding for so many things JUST to play a single game. I already said how players don't have any incentive to try anything; these systems make it worse because you can even go negative in some matches. Of course there is paid gold and premium time to make all of these easier. The game is not ashamed of it, since at the end of the day, that's the end goal, not making a fun game (that was just a happy accident). This game cant change, it only looks as beautiful as it does and sounds as amazing as it does because it asks for so much money or time to keep players in it. I would advise any player looking at this game to turn back and look at other options, strategy games for the ones who want the slow paced gameplay or free-to-play shooters for the ones who want in some action (really, its easier to get in a real game there than in here). Maybe, some day, anoTher developer will look at this and make a game that keeps the core that is really fun of this game and discard everY part that make it predatoRy. And even if they don't, even if they charge 500 dollars for skins in their game, or sell limited time stuff for exorbitant prices, or sell that single player game at 100 dollars, they wont be as greedy as Wargaming has been with this game and every single one of their titles. TLDR AVOID. THIS. GAME. Look elsewhere

The game would be amazing, if it werent for these glaringly obvious issues. 1. The devs cater to the worst players, because they are the games biggest money whales. This manifests itself as many of the issues listed below. 2. The worst issue - The map design is horrendously dumbed down in comparison to pre 1.0, and Lesta. The maps usually have 1 or 2 chokepoints, with a hulldown cupola sniping spot separated by a long distance, with a deathzone around it. You cannot go around these chokepoints, because the maps are riddled with UNCOUNTERABLE camping positions for mouthbreathers mentioned in point 1 to sit in with tank destroyers (funny how often they still end up dying because theyre too stupid to figure out bush camo mechanics, even after 50000 battles). These people contribute nothing to the team, because the only time they can shoot from there is when someone tries to go around the chokepoint, or when their team has already lost and enemies are pushing into the base. Maps like studzianki outright punish you for winning a flank, as none of the flanks positions are usable, and you cannot push forwards, because the literal entire back line of the map is a line of bushes and cover for aforementioned troglodytes. You wanna play the game? too bad, you get aped for 750 by some boomer playing with 1 hand on his ♥♥♥♥ instead of his keyboard. Also many of the maps have like 1 or maybe 2 at most good positions, which can accomodate only 1 tank most of the time, so only 1 or 2 players are actually able to do good damage, while the rest of the team, no matter how good they might be, can just take out their cuck chair and watch. 3. Artillery. They refuse to do anything about this class, because its mostly played by the aforementioned boomer whales, because theyre too stupid to play well (even though they usually have an excess of 50k battles, so theyve been playing like since release.), so they find amusement in ruining everyone elses game by clicking them from above, with 0 way for the person to retaliate, or play around it. (still theyll defend this and tell you arty isnt an issue and to just play arty safe, because they sit in the base bush unspotted the whole game, they never get clicked by arty and think arty is fine for the game.) 4. Matchmaking. The games end in 3 minutes. not because of OP tanks, or any of the other BS the big CCs attribute this to. Its because of Ape-centric MM. Theres 15 players per team, and when you get 5 TD apes that sit in the back, 2 p3dos in artys, 2 lights and to top it off 2 of the meds are TD players in some sniping medium, the entire frontline force that actually fights ends up being like 4-5 tanks, so the game ends quite fast, and is unenjoyable to play for everyone, besides those camping mouthbreathers. Solution? Delete artillery, perma ban anyone with over 500 games in the LefH105 arty, as theyve single handedly made most new players coming to the game ragequit, cap amount of TDs to 3 per team, 2 lights per team with lights being matched by skill, as some maps are literally decided by who has the better light player (prokhorovka most notably, when your light is horrible your loss is almost guaranteed). 5. Lack of content - The game hasnt received any new maps in ages (i dont count that onslaught map that got "reworked" (more like ensh1ttified), as it was already in the game and they just brought it over). I dont care about new tanks and whatnot, they all play the same, or similar to whats already in game. The game needs new game modes (instead they removed game modes like encounter and assault and grand battles), they need to fire the current map designers without any compensation (all the maps they "improved" became horrendous), hire new ones, and make a ton of new maps. 6. TDs being completely braindead to play. Why do these tanks need 5 gorillion penetration? oh yeah i forgot the braindead apes that play them cant aim, so WG gives them ridiculous penetration to compensate. Who cares about aiming, just ape the shot, it will pen anyway. Tanks like the strv TDs literally have the same gun as some mediums, but somehow they have like 40 more mm of pen, just because its an ape machine. Give TDs reasonable pen values, and make the ape spots counterable, or outright remove some of them. . Everyone keeps talking about how bad the balance is, op premiums, etc etc, but that is literally just a tiny spec of dust of a problem compared to these. The game would be in a healthier state even with even more op premiums, if those issues mentioned above got dealt with.
awful game for new players, dont bother. its literally first 5 games against bots, then even at tier 2 youre fighing no lives with over 40k games played. good way to kill the game btw guys. a 16+ year old game being killed by noobs with over 4k hours who are too bad to play in thier own leauge that instantly tell new players to uninstall the minute they are not running meta equips or do a bad play, its called learning btw.
Is this for real? Where the hell even is this game about actual pixel tank fighting? This is just a "sit in queue for almost 2 minutes" simulator. Pick a different tank... sit in queue almost two more minutes. No match? Try a different tank... sit in queue another almost 2 minutes... No match... Tries a different tier, different tank... minute and a half, still no match..... Ad infinitum. Keep this one, WG. World of Tanks USED TO BE something worthwhile. Now it just seems like World of Queue Simulator. So you'll put new players vs bots after 45 second wait and call it randoms. But the rest of us who were here years ago, went elsewhere, and now give your game another try, you choose to punish us by sitting in queue for two minutes at a time and nothing happens? I wouldn't know about steamroll defeats of lack of skill based matchmaking and getting seal clubbed: I spent more time WAITING just to get in a match than actually even getting to play. Seriously? Apparently, after waiting a full 5 minutes and getting NOTHING, you get defaulted back to the garage... piss on you, WG. Get your house in order if you want future paying customers.
For all my fellow atheists out there, if you're thinking that nor hell or heaven exist, trust me, you're fundamentally wrong. Devil is closer than you think and he loves adding more AI-generated tanks, ways of sucking out your money and happiness. Hell is truly there and it has a name.
The most pay to win game that exists
HOW 'BOUT NO! I am not going to sit queues for 5 minutes at a time, just to get default-bumped back to the garage several times over an hour, with not a single match. Years ago, this game was something, tens of thousands of players. The linking with Steam was a nice feature, but appears too little, too late to save this. So, what is it? Is the game on "business hours" now, that a returning player can't get in the game when we actually the time? Maybe World of Tanks finally needs to invest in a worthwhile PvE mode: Warships pulls it off quite successfully, as does Wargaming's competition (even for their faults, never have much of an issue getting a pve match at all hours when pvp numbers drop into the toilet). But in the meantime, I'm not wasting a night bouncing from queues back to the garage with no battles in sight, trying to get a bunch of midtier tanks finished up I never completed years ago. This game is like one of those favorite restaurants you used to have, but left because you thought it was being managed poorly, and other places were starting to serve more attractive platters. Then one day you return to this one, remembering how good it used to be for a while, only to find out it's got a whole bunch of other issues now. Hungry for something worthwhile, and this game doesn't want to provide it. Pass.
Matchmaking is awful which makes the game painful to play.
The concept of this game is very unique and good but the pay to win ♥♥♥♥ this game has because of wargambling is insane... It used to be a game where a tank was just a normal tank without special abilities like double barreled tanks, rocket boosts and even shooting rockets. I would recommend wargambling to make a seperate gamemode with tanks that are (somewhat) real, without any stupid abilities to be used and without double barreled or polish td mechanics, just normal tanks. This way people get to choose if they want to play a real tank game or a fake tank game. Also it would be nice for wargambling to make tanks where you have to pay for worse or just as good as tech tree tanks...
