My playtime: 21.9h (based on steam, 21/21 achievements) Grindy Achievement: Yes (1 achievement). Optional Achievement: Yes (12 achievements). Difficult Achievement: No. Developer Response: Yes (~1 week).
Intro
World In Danger is a top down shooter game that has ~3 game modes: kill all enemies, rescue people (or anything non combat that requires stealth), and kill the boss. The game has 16 levels in total, each with some cutscenes before and after the level starts.
Music
I don't really remember much about the bgm in the main menu except that it being low, but i love the one that's played after you finish a mission. I also love the voice overs in the game; i love how the bosses have their own voice and talk a lot during battle. The gun sound doesn't sound weird at all, except for one "weapon"
unicorn
that's has quite a sharp sound - i even have to mute my sound in order to play.
Graphics
The graphics look like old games. There wasn't anything special with the graphics except that there are a lot of cutscenes with different graphics (especially the cool looking action graphics) in it. I'm sure that the devs have put on a lot of effort in making them (and they also look cool).
Story
I was quite surprised that despite the game is divided into different levels, most of the levels connect with each other and creates a bigger story out of it. One of the level is also divided into two levels because they consists of two different missions. The story itself is very well thought; they even look like a non indie game material. I also love the dialogue and interaction between characters, especially on one level
(Under Siege 2)
where there are a lot of different dialogues based on which character you choose. Sadly, you can't fast forward the dialogues and there's no confirmation button in the dialogues to make them faster so you either have to see it or skip it. If you're a slow reader, you can always use space to pause it. Also, i have to point out that there are a lot of grammatical errors in the prologue. Some text mission are also out of the box (or almost out of the box). One example is in the description of 4th mission.
The game
As i said before, the game has 16 different levels. Each level will have its own separate objectives, but it can be summarized into three objectives: kill all enemies, rescue people, and kill the boss. The first and the last one is quite easy to do since you just need to shoot your gun into anyone you see, but it might be hard to do the rescuing, especially if you're aiming for S rank. Somehow, i played the game in low fps so it can take hours just to finish one non killing level in S rank because i the game want me to finish the level unseen. Speaking of ranks, you'll be ranked based on your performance after you finish a stage. I forgot what's the lowest rank is, but the highest rank is S. The game has different difficulty mode from easy, medium, hard, to challenge mode and you can only get the highest rank in challenge mode since the rank will be capped to certain ranks in other modes. The easier mode will have weaker enemies with lower hp and attack power. The enemies will have a vision range just like the one in any stealth game, and you'll be noticed by them if you are in the range (or close to them, in challenge mode). They might call their allies if you're seen, which might make it easier if you have to kill all enemies. There are 4 main playable characters with dozens of additional weaker playable characters that you can play, which will be unlocked on certain missions. Actually, I don't really think that all of these playable characters are necessary (and they can be very grindy if you want to get an achievement) although there's one character
(Mole)
that's quite good in my opinion
since she can kill enemies in one hit
. There are 8 bosses in the game, 7 which you have to kill. All of the bosses are unique with their own patterns and you'll have to find different strategy to kill each bosses. After you finish the story mode, you can fight all of the boses in Boss Attack Mode. This feature has normal and ironhard mode, in which you won't have your health and ammo recovered in ironhard mode. The bosses are very easy to beat though; i think that they're on easy mode, even if you play in ironhard mode. The game offers two shooting mode; automatic and manual. You have to aim yourself in manual mode, while the automatic will let you shoot to the nearest enemies. This is quite useful if you're having trouble with the manual aim. It might not work on some bosses though. You can change this in the setting menu. Speaking of setting menu, the menu animation (and almost all animations, including when you die and finish a level), is very slow. It took me minutes just to restart a level because of this. There is also free roam mode where you can go to your base and talk to other people. The good thing is that your base will be upgraded as you complete more levels. Lastly, the game also offers a "Quick Game" feature where you can create a custom match. Pros: - 16 levels - 8 unique bosses - 4 + a lot of playable characters - 4 difficulty mode Cons: - Slow animation - Unable to fast forward dialogues
Conclusion
This is a top down shooter game where you have to finish a certain objective in order to clear the level. There are 16 levels in total, with 8 unique boss levels.
Should you buy this game?
Yes. If you like top down shooter games with retro graphics, buy it. You have to make sure that you can run the game smoothly first though so you can experience the game to its fullest.
Fun action game, with very clear homages to Metal Gear, The Expendables and even James Bond. I'd even recommend adding a parody tag to this game. Graphical style is something you have to be fond of, while not bad it doesn't have the same feel like other pixel games like Shovel Knight. The gameplay is solid. I played using a xbox 360 controller (at first with manual aiming, but that was to hard for me) and it felt right for this game. All in all a enjoyable game.
This is a nice little retro game -- top down shooter, short, but plenty enjoyable. Definitely worth the small pricetag.
World in Danger was perhaps the most lackluster stealth action tactical shooter that we have experienced. The gameplay is straightforward, not very challenging, however, I would still rather play this game than Tom Clancy's: The Division. 2/10 +1 would recommend
Pretty cool, retro indie game. It's a lot like the old MGS games, or arcade shooters, and often makes references to them in bosses and characters. Bring's a smile to your face with all of it's references, and the game itself is quite challenging and fast paced at times. All in all I'd say it's worth the low price.
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
This game is pretty fun to play, but it needs some more stealth elements to be considered a stealth game IMO. I have posted my opinion in the forums and hopefully they will incorporate some of the features I listed. If not, it is still fun to play as a run & gun game! I recommend this game because it's fun to play! It is definately worth the asking price! An interesting shooter. The AI of the enemies is very advanced, especially considering it is a 2D indie game - they will hear shots, notice dead comrades, and change their behaviour accordingly changing their patrol patterns accordingly. This opens up some tactical choices, like deliberately making noise to draw enemies away from where you're actually headed. Unfortunately, the lack of a melee or execution mechanic makes a stealth run difficult to achieve (while it is entirely possible to sneak behind enemies undetected, killing them without causing an alert is almost impossible), but the game plays very nicely as the run-and-gun shooter it is mostly supposed to be. The story is fairly simple, but full of well-placed references that will net a laugh. The missions are fairly short, which means that this game is perfect for those ten free minutes that would otherwise be mostly occupied by the loading in other games. I recommend this.
