Pensando dessa forma, o desenvolvedor indie NowakGames criou o seu título baseando-se nesses clássicos games. World CHAMPIONS: Decathlon traz em seu conteúdo diversas modalidades do atletismo, dentre elas estão: salto em distância, arremesso de peso, lançamento de dardo, corrida com barreiras, salto com vara, corridas de 100, 400 e 1500 metros, entre outras. Em relação a gameplay, no início o jogador pode sentir dificuldades para se adaptar aos comandos, já que é necessário alternar entre as teclas direcionais para movimentar o personagem e o espaço para realizar a ação de pulo ou arremesso. Fora isso, o jogo não oferece a opção ao jogador de configurar os controles de acordo com a sua preferência. Os gráficos pixelados ao estilo 8-bit é o charme de toda a obra, juntamente com seus sprites caprichados. Além disso, os variados cenários nos remetem a uma arena de competição com extrema fidelidade. Já a parte sonora também faz uma combinação perfeita com a proposta do jogo, com as músicas moldadas no padrão do ZX Spectrum. [b] Champions Decathlon [/b] is a retro pixel art competitive sports game based around the classic arcade games of the eighties like Konami's [b]Track and Field[/b] and Ocean's [b] Daley Thompson's Decathlon [/b]. I sank hours and hours into those games in the arcades and I went through a few joysticks and keyboards playing them on the various computers also. So how does this entry compare against those greats? This game sticks firmly to the premise of competitive athletics on the track and field so all events are associated with the Decathlon, namely, 100m; Long Jump; Shot Putt; High Jump; 400m; 110m Hurdles; Discuss; Pole Vault; Javelin; and 1500m. You can either play these events individually and try to beat your PBs or other player's high scores and World Records, or you can line them up and play them all in the true test of endurance and strength and compete in the whole Decathlon, where you can also compete against other player's high scores. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3399005071 [h2] Leader Boards [/h2] There are leader boards which display your best thirteen attempts for each event, along with online leader boards for this current season in each event too. Each season lasts a quarter of the year. Once the season ends the top three in each event are saved for prosperity in the hall of fame section. The leader boards could use a spruce up to be honest. They look a bit ugly and basically look like a database has been dumped on a page. I used to like the flashing colours on Track and Field and the high score table on that looks much nicer than the leader boards in this game. Leader Boards are a great way to incentivize and get you playing events over and over trying to beat other people's records though. I would add a top three leader board on the game page though, like in Track and Field, so that you can see what those milestones are as you are playing. Currently, there is a bug where if you beat your PB or the WR it doesn't reflect on the screen until you complete another successful attempt, and if you foul on your next attempt, the PB or WR isn't even recorded at all! [h2] Achievements [/h2] There are a ton of achievements to aim for but a lot of them you will find very annoying and I hate achievements being added just for the sake of it. For example, achievements like " Do each event 100 times" or "Run 500km" or "Play for 120 Hours." I worked it out and it would take over 120 hours to run 500km. Achievements like these do not enhance the game. They are lazy and ill conceived. There are some nice achievements also that encourage you to better yourself and beat personal best times, which are welcomed, but I would advise removing the grind laden achievements. There is also an achievement for beating the world record in every event, which is going to be extremely difficult under any circumstances, but somebody has glitched the Pole Vault record at the maximum you can set the bar to, so that is never going to be beaten. I suspect what has happened is that that particular event occasionally records your height even if you fail the jump. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3399005415 [h2] Competing in Events [/h2] This game is fine for one players who like challenging on leader boards, beating their own personal bests, and earning achievements, but I would argue that this game is going to shine the most when playing against others either locally at a drink fuelled party, or online against others. Unfortunately, there are no games online. I could not join anybody else's game. There were just none available, so you will need to co-ordinate with others to arrange games on a separate platform like Steam or Discord. I have not checked whether any exist at the moment. The menus are a bit crude and confusing because when I changed bots to 2 for example, nothing happened. I never raced against an opponent or saw a bot post a score to beat, yet I just tried again and it did work. The same goes for playing against a human player. I could not work out how to set up a tournament with 4 people, for example, yet I now have realized how to do it. This game really needs a simple UI where local players can set up a variety of events in a tournament to tailor their needs. For example, if you don't want to mash your keyboard for three and a half minutes then they should be able to remove the 1500m from the tournament. The 1500m is a bit of a bore but it's in the Decathlon, so okay. Perhaps some sort of energy element could be introduced rather than just mashing the keys for a few minutes. There are nods to its arcade friends, with UFOs visible if you throw the Javelin too high, but some events seem a bit dumbed down, like High Jump, which is just a case of running and pressing jump, rather than constantly changing the angle to try and mimic the stages of the Fosbury Flop. The actions are so much faster too, with your athlete flying over bars and sand pits, rather than floating through the air, so the game feels a little rushed compared to older versions. [h2] Sound and Graphics [/h2] I really liked the graphics and the look and vibe of the game but the sound needs more bells and whistles. Where are the iconic crowd noises and the noises when they jump? I think the next stage of evolution for this franchise should be adding more atmospheric sound effects and just making it more exciting to play. Great game to play with family, friends or individually with bots, it gives a lot of fun. Really satifying gameplay and competition. Pleasant graphics and music bring back very possitive childchood memories. I fully recommend this game for everyone :)

Back in 1983 we were introduced to a game called Track and Field. Fast forward to 2021 and we have World CHAMPIONS: Decathlon. A true homage to not only Track and Field, but all of the Olympic type sports arcade games of the 80s. The graphics are full retro style, and the sounds are as if you were stood in an arcade in the 80s. We are back to button bashing greatness. There are ten events to choose from, which you can take part in one at a time, as well as all ten in succession in the Decathlon mode. You have...100 metres, Long jump, Shot put, High jump, 400 metres, 110 metres hurdles, Discus throw, Pole vault, Javelin throw and 1500 metres. You can play in single player mode, or person vs person mode, local and online, however when I tried online I couldn't find a match. The controls are simple, you have two buttons for speed, and then one for an action, for example to jump. And that is it, everything is super simple and easy to play. There are leader-boards and achievements to unlock. Each event will have at least 3 achievements to get. One will be to beat a certain score, then an elite achievement where you have to beat a better score, and of course an achievement if you get the world record. There are even a few bonus achievements you can get, for example, spot a UFO or complete the 110m Hurdles in a certain time, without jumping. And I will say that the 1500 metre race is gruelling, tapping buttons as fast as you can, non stop for 3+ minutes sounds easy, but your fingers are gonna get a workout that's for sure. The Good A proper retro Track and Field style game, it really does have everything you could want. The Bad This is a small complaint, but I think that when you have two buttons you need to press to run, they should have to be pressed alternatively, where as in this you can press both together, this makes things much easier than it should be. I also think that a lack of control on the jumping events, again makes things too easy. Overall I was a huge fan of Olympic style games in the 1980s. I love a good button bashing game. I think there are a few tweaks that could be made to this game to make it a bit harder which in turn makes it more of a challenge. O jogo é bem divertido, muito retrô, os comandos são estranhos mas não são difíceis de entender, ele tem vários modos (corrida de 100, 400 e 1500m, salto com vara, arremesso a distância, salto a distância e etc) porém jogar sozinho pode ser meio chato, poderia ter pelo menos uns bots para deixar o single player mais competitivo, você pode convidar alguns amigos mesmo que ele não tenha o game para jogar usando o remote play together aí fica mais divertido. Literally a remake / de-make of 80s smash hit athletics games like Hyper Sports and specifically Daley Thompson's Decathlon, and done well. Look past the super-retro (even moreso than the aforementioned original games!) this is well-made and moreish. The mechanics feel the same as those original joystick-breaking wagglers too, you only need a left, right and shoot inputs although reading what the dev has to say it's actually a little cleverer than that under the bonnet, with smoothness as important as speed. So ten events you can play as a full decathlon or individually, alone, against bots or multiplay either local or via online matchmaking. Some events are easy and some are hard to find the right techniques and thanks to a unique progression and improvement system you will always be able to beat a high score, it just takes time and practice. All this wrapped up with online leaderboards as well as maintaining your own PBs for a private challenge. Real good, simple fun. I personally think its a little overpriced but on sale you should get plenty of nostalgic fun out of this
