About
See that component? Put it on board.
WordJoy is an incremental game about Chinese character components. Buy components, place them on a 5x5 board, and watch them generate coins over time. When adjacent components can form a valid Chinese character, they upgrade into stronger, more valuable pieces.
Each component has base income. Once placed, it keeps producing coins.
But growth is not only waiting. You need to watch adjacency, move compatible components together, form characters, trigger upgrades, and push income higher.
5x5 board looks small, but every tile matters.
Should this spot earn coins now?
Should it be saved for future combo?
Should current layout stay, or should you swap, delete, and rebuild?
Every adjustment can create new character combinations and faster growth.
More coins unlock more component choices.
More components create more combinations.
More combinations trigger more upgrades.
More upgrades make coins grow faster.

The game's idea is very interesting, but the gameplay still requires some more thought, I think. At the moment, this is a very basic game where you put components next to each character, and get more points, so you can have more characters to put on the board. As a game and as a learning tool, it's boring. However, I think there's a lot of potential in a game like this. Here are some rough ideas I had: Once you have put your pieces on the board, it doesn't change. It only makes a number go up, which isn't interesting. There's no way to lose, only ways to win more. I think something in the game board must change on its own, as you play the game. Otherwise, there is very little fun in the game. Perhaps once you complete a character, all its component pieces are automatically removed from the board? That way, the board would be changing all the time. Or perhaps the player can choose to remove a group of components that form a character, and gets points based on that. Having to play "dead" pieces on the board and then immediately deleting them is something I often do, but also boring. Perhaps there could be a sideboard, where you can store characters you don't want to play yet? Or perhaps it is easier to switch the locations of characters on the board, and the focus is on figuring out the board with the highest possible score. That would be more like a puzzle game. With a system like that, I could see challenge levels where you need to use a limited set of components to make 3 or 4 characters, and have to figure out how to position the components so that each character gets to use just one component piece. Currently, the points of each component seem to be related to the rarity of the component. Perhaps this system could have two parts - each component has a base score based on how many strokes it takes to draw it, and then also a multiplier for rarity. Then, when the components are combined, the total score would be (points from each component) + (bonus for number of combined components) + (bonus from rare components). It would be nice to get extra points if the components were in the same order as the actual character would be nice, but it's not important for the core idea of the game. For example, 大 + 镸 = 套. Having 大 directly above 镸 would give extra points. This is just a random example, I'm not sure if this is a valid combination in this game. ----------- I know these different ideas can't all work together. There are many ways to develop this very interesting game further. I hope the developer continues to experiment and try out various things! I think there is a market for a good game for people who want to learn Chinese characters.
