Vague memories of the original, I can see why I never got far. Primitive action with some awkward platforming thrown in. They seem to have added an overpowered charge attack and changed the boss head designs from bad to worse. Graphics and soundtrack are alright, far from The Dragon's Trap standards. Usually gloss over glitches but… some platforms weren’t there. Turns out the spawn in ones weren’t doing so on high refresh rates. Switching from monitor to television fixed the issue only to discover it was preventing character slide too, which is horrible. It’s so prominent that I switched back to the monitor.
I really enjoyed what this game is trying to do. It’s a unique platformer with its own rules. It doesn’t really feel like a typical platformer due to the high tempo that is required from you. You can move wherever you like but you have a health gauge that depletes with time. You have to eat food to stay alive. You’re encouraged to keep running through 8 worlds. Each world has 4 stages. A lot of them look similar or are practically the same, but new elements keep getting added. Think of new enemies placed in awkward positions, an egg containing dangerous content instead of good, a stone that forces you to move differently etc. This keeps you on your toes, it plays with your expectations and it shines on the highest difficulty mode. There you only get 10 lives to finish the game. The game is very fun and different. The controls need some getting used to but I felt like a pro after a while. The cartoony graphics are cute, especially the playable characters and enemies. I love that the 3 difficulty modes are separate and can be accessed at any time. This helps with practicing certain levels on normal in order to get better with One Coin mode (the hardest difficulty). The achievements are fair and enjoyable. It felt very satisfying to complete One Coin mode after playing for over 19 hours. Actual length of the entire game might be less than an hour if you complete one mode without making mistakes. The game doesn’t have resolutions higher than 1080p. I had black borders with a 1440p monitor. Even though One Coin mode is fun, you have to complete it in one session. You can’t quit and continue later. Although I understand the developers are trying to replicate that arcade feel, I would have still preferred to continue later with the 10 lives you’re given. Also, it would have been really nice if you get rewarded with a new life after reaching a certain score (like every 100k or 200k). It kind of made the high scores pointless if you don’t care about that. It would have been helpful with One Coin mode too. Wonder Boy and Monster Boy games seem related as a franchise but this game is nothing like the other Wonder/Monster Boy games I played. It might as well be a different franchise. It’s a good game regardless of that. I got it for €1,80 on sale and it’s 100% worth it. Get it if you’re looking for a challenging platformer. It can be enjoyed on normal but this game is the best for the ones who love remembering patterns and want to practice to complete the highest difficulty mode. I’m not particularly looking for difficult games but I felt rewarded whilst trying to get all the achievements. It’s not impossible, it might even feel easy with a certain mindset. It’s one of those challenging games that I feel is done right. It motivates you to get better because you know you can do it.

Not like the original. High frame rate will break the game. Performance issues. The game feels nothing like the OG. Id Prefer the PC engine version the most. I don't recommend this version. Even it's free don't do it not worth it.
tts + not remix https://youtu.be/9N-kIryeO38 More like a de-mix. First they’ve created Wonder Boy 7: Returns, which had the gameplay of the earlier pre-monster-world games. But then for some reason they decided to use those assets and the engine, to somewhat recreate the first game, and called it a re-mix. In the old version Tina was always easy because chicks, amiright peter? And the easy difficulty is too easy, you are basically immune to the enemies and there are no bosses.I’ve played a chunk of the game on yuzu, the game is aliased and FPS stutters. Then i’ve bought it on Steam It has a better resolution than the Switch version, because that toy can’t even run sprites properly. It’s the same stupid primitive repetitive boss-fights, and the same stupid repetitive levels, with only the amount of enemies changed. The same bad physics and unresponsive floaty controls with extreme inertia. But to compensate for the original scammy design, you at least have 5 lives per each level, not for the entire game. And they’ve added a charged attack that has a bigger hitbox and can crush a lot of obstacles. You can have three projectiles simultaneously, which is a big difference. The FoV is way bigger than in Wonder Boy 7 and all the versions of the first game. They also remade frogs to not suddenly jump with big hitboxes and no animation. Obviously they’ve removed all the advanced enemies, which are not present in the first game. Before a boss-fight there’s a pack of milk refilling all the energy. All of that makes this game way more manageable. It is completable, but the core physics of the jumping emulating the first Wonder Boy prevent it from being too enjoyable. In the current version you can pick the character. Boy has his arching axes, while Tina uses returning boomerangs which fly in a straight line. You still can starve with an angel, and i still don’t understand the mushroom. It’s in the bad egg, but it turns food into sweets? The story is entirely ruined in the Remix. They don’t show the opening cutscene, so when they show you the ending cutscene with the devil it makes absolutely no sense. The devil was never involved in this version, it’s all King with his collection of heads. The difficulty selection talks about different endings, but the difference is one jokey picture. I’ve discovered that holding attack button allows you to jump without pressing a direction button, and to run. And yes, it also works in the arcade version. Which makes a lot of the game easier, still — not a good control scheme. The PC port can’t run properly on 4//3 screens. If you go fullscreen the option menu doesn’t work properly, and the picture is either stretched vertically with no option for letterboxing, or renders some graphics outside the screen. The only solution is to run low-res windowed or with two screens leave a part of the window on the second monitor. If they decided to make a new game which is a re-make of the first game re-using the assets of Wonder Boy 7 it’s their choice. But what pisses me off is that they de-listed Wonder Boy 7: Returns, despite that being an absolutely different game and a new entry into the Wonder Boy IP. Hell you can find it. Only some used physical copies for PS4 remain, and maybe you somehow can find a cracked PC version.
생각보다 많이 별로였음
