REVIEW #116 Womb Room ---------- Womb Room has an interesting basic concept that could've resulted in a fun casual game, but this title is currently in a mostly non-functional state that will probably never be fixed. However, even when it was functioning properly years ago, other Steam reviews indicate that there really wasn't anything noteworthy or looking into here. The idea of Womb Room is to follow a person's life through the stages between birth and death, read funny text, rinse and repeat. Unfortunately, the text that describes what's happening in each stage is not displaying. Discussions on Steam forums suggest that the program is trying to pull the text from an online source that is no longer operating, resulting in every bit of dialog saying "NULL". There are things that you can still do in the game, like choose random doors to walk through to move on to the next stage or pick up items and take them with you. However, it's almost impossible to tell if these actions make a difference and what exactly the difference is because of the lack of text. Perhaps a simple patch would fix this issue, but according to other Steam users, this problem has existed for years, and there's been no indication of any fix headed our way in the near future. Therefore, chances are good that the game will stay in this sad, broken state from here on out. Even with the negative reviews that were posted when Womb Romb was fully functional, I was willing to give it a fair shot, but no one can do that with the game in this state. When one of the main components of a game doesn't work at all, it will usually destroy any chance of having fun during play, and that is the case here. Even if it's on sale, don't buy Womb Room. You won't get what you're advertised. I've flagged the game for being broken, and I will be asking for a refund once I scrape out all of the trading card drops. (Judge me for that if you so desire.)
