Witness to Mass Incarceration is a narrative-driven interactive story based on my life in federal prison. It is a brutally honest portrayal of the lack of humanity, how our lives inside are at risk every day, and the place you are forced to go within yourself to survive.

How do you capture the inhumanity of prison?
The night before I left for prison, my mother told me prison would be harder for me than the concentration camp had been for her. WITNESS to Mass Incarceration: Chapter 1 is the true story of my first day inside federal prison, where within hours I realized I am no longer in the free world, and that my survival depended on learning the rules, both spoken and unspoken.
How do you translate that inhumanity into game design?
The computer game team decided to use a 2D narrative-driven journey, pixel art and point-and-click exploration to tell my story. We were committed to telling this story authentically and to build an immersive narrative to show the gamer the reality of the harsh life all prisoners face.
Gaming techniques like dragging and sliding objects were used in furtherance of the story. Each interaction reveals another layer of prison’s reality, immersing you in the fear, uncertainty, and emotional strain that define life behind bars.
This first chapter is one in a series which tells the story of my arrest, conviction, incarceration and release. We are creating this game for you to know and feel what it is like to face incarceration. It is our hope that this game brings awareness of the issue of mass incarceration.

It's a story game, there are a ton of well reviewed games that play exactly like it. I like her voice acting, its authentic and haunting in a way that perfectly matches the imagery being shown. I can't wait for more chapters to come out. Thank you for this game. The only thing I wanna add is the ability to pause the screen when the stories of the creators come up because there's not enough time to read them before they disappear.
This was interesting. I've never played a game like this before. I just want to confirm if only chapter 1 has been released at the moment? Also, there should be an autoplay feature please.
This game is an interactive story that is engaging and easy to follow. It sheds light on the treatment and conditions people face while in prison using a real-life person's experience. The graphics are well done and cool to look at.

Good experience, All of it is pretty spot on on the intake process and first time feelings. There were a few things that were different in my experience being male and younger, so it's nice to hear different viewpoints, especially in an interactive sense. While it is short, it's labeled as Chapter 1 so I'll look forward to the next chapters.
An exciting and sad story based on a real experience. I am very curious about the next chapter, which has yet to appear, because despite the horror of the story, it raises questions in me about how it will develop further and what socially significant things it will reveal.
A sobering look at what incarcerated people endure in the US justice system. Beautifully animated and scored as well.
This interactive game was interesting. Viewing this perspective from of a first time incarcerated woman gave insight into the emotions and events that may likely be experienced by many others. It brings attention to the internal emotions that are not likely to be told throughout the judicial process.
