I would not say it's a badly made graphic adventure, but there was just not enough of a kick to the narrative, if there was some hidden meaning behind it I don't think it translated on my end, I am not sure if it's just lack of experience, but I felt the story was just too primitive. Honestly with the game being 15 minutes or less, if you just gave me like another 10 minutes of context for both characters, it would probably make the difference between a negative review and a positive one. It has some dark vibes so I thought the plot would go interesting places, but there are only a few characters, and not one of them is explored in any meaningful capacity. To be honest I am not even sure what you were trying to say at the ending, it just seemed like 2 people frustrated with life, that is pretty much all I got from it, that seems to be the extent of their relationship, either that or you failed to convey your intentions. I am not even trying to nitpick the story, you could keep it the way it is, but you just need more time with the characters, give them a bit more background or just add a few layers to the plot leading up to the ending, I don't mind short games but this is a good example of a game that needed more time with the character, perhaps a few extra panels would help. The game can be completed in 10 to 15 minutes with no prior knowledge, The correct path only has about 5 minutes of dialogue, but the choice-based progression makes it a bit longer, plus there are a few optional achievements. Your partner randomly goes missing and you have to repeat the same day to find the "correct sequence" of events to save her in time, so there is a bit of trial and error with the choices. I actually love these deducting games where you have to avoid dead ends, not many people do, but it reminds me of those classic text adventures, I kinda of dig them personally. I like that you had a few optional events, but I would like to see you expand on them if you make another game, just add 1 or 2 extra acts, maybe a few optional endings as well. I do think you would benefit taking more risk with the story, it's okay to have a simple plot sometimes, but if you take no risk, there is no reward, and while I didn't hate the game, you didn't even give me much to work with which is somewhat frustrating. While I do think you picked a decently moody song for the game, I would recommend thinking about game music in a form of manipulation and complementing the scene instead of playing the same song over the game, you could try slowing it down or slightly modifying it for different locations or perhaps even changing it entirely if the dialogue calls for silence or something more subtle and atmospheric. I didn't mind the visuals, the only thing I would say is because the actual scenes didn't have much going in them, I don't think that you made it very compelling to explore, I think you need to give yourself more opportunities to create interesting imagery in the game.
Pros:
(+) Now I can't say that there was any part of the game that I really liked, but I think you have the basic format down, I like having those optional outcomes like the path talking to the school friend over and over. You not doing anything wrong, just need more layers to the experience. I liked that dark atmosphere and the look of the game, but even there I think you needed to do a bit more mood progression to make it compelling
Feedback:
Just some thoughts: - not to repeat myself, but like already mentioned, I just don't think you doing enough with the plot, you need more scenes to develop the characters and give more weight to the narrative. I don't mind the art but I also think you need the plot to give you more opportunities to draw more interesting scenes in that art style. For music, even if you have one song, you could try slowing down or changing the pitch a little between different locations. That and honestly just make the game a bit longer, even if you make something decent you just never going to get much across in 10 minutes. Overall Thoughts: 5/10 It's not a bad game but the story just didn't have enough of a kick to it, sometimes you can get away with something simple, but even then I think you need to provide more details for the reader to care about the plot. I was somewhat compelled to find her, I will play almost any game with a dark atmosphere, but you really didn't reward my time. I think you got the basic format down, just need to focus more on the characters and add more context for the plot. Give yourself more opportunities to come up with interesting locations to draw, take more risk with the story.

该Game Jam的主题为“Death is A New Beginning”,《Meet her there》设定为时间循环系,可以看得出跟主题相当契合。
Meet Her There is dark-themed visual novel developed and published by Sinisthesis. You take on the role of an unnamed teenage (or perhaps, slightly older) female who ends up receiving a strange text from her girlfriend. The text implies
suicide
, which, of course, alarms the MC. Thus, she hurries to various locations to find her girlfriend and stop her before it's too late. That's the basic story premise, and I'll stop here to avoid spoilers and all that. As for the gameplay, you're presented with a map of the city, and various locations are marked where the MC can visit in search of her girlfriend, or at least, any information as to her whereabouts. In each location, you'll get one of two choices as to what the MC should do. Thus, the gameplay continues like that until you either get the ending where the MC is too late to save her girlfriend or you get the true ending. Unlike a lot of visual novels, no CGs are present. However, there are Steam achievements, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "Steam is learning about this game". Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my thoughts. Meet Her There stood out to me because of how different it is from a lot of visual novels out there, so I decided to give this a try. Before I get ahead of myself too much, though, I'll first comment on the story. Right away, I could tell that the story atmosphere is meant to detect some imminent danger when the MC receives that ominous text from her girlfriend. Along with the art and music, I definitely get that feeling. Understandably, the MC is in a panic, so she searches in several places to find her. In regards to the MC, I found her to be hot tempered (but that is understandable due to the situation), but it's obvious that she deeply cares for her girlfriend and wants to save her. As to the various characters the MC meets, their personalities and temperaments vary. While the girlfriend's friend at school is a nice enough, friendly character who can tell that the MC wants to find her girlfriend (yet, she is conflicted because she was made to promise not to give the MC any clues as to where the girlfriend might be), the girlfriend's parents are hostile, attacking and blaming the MC for their daughter being the way that she is. It's implied that
the girlfriend might have been a guy, but that's only if you carefully read a certain line of text
. As to the story's true ending, this is where conflicting views come into play. As I played this visual novel after the Steam update, I'm getting a slightly different perspective from those who played it before the update. Without going into spoiler territory, all I'll say is that it left me feeling
sorry for the MC, but the reality is that she would have never been able to stop her girlfriend from committing suicide
. Regarding the writing, I found it to be passable. I didn't notice any typos although it's definitely on the short side. The pacing is fine since the story itself takes place within a span of a few hours (probably). As for the gameplay, I liked the map presentation and the concept of a time loop. Thus, if you reach an ending where the MC is too late to save her girlfriend, you'll get taken back to the start of the story and have to make slightly different choices as you aim towards getting the true ending. All the Steam achievements unlocked for me without any problems, and they're pretty easy to figure out how to obtain (for the most part). As for the art, I like the style that is used. It's in a pixelated style with red and black colors being the primary colors. Combined, it helps give off that dark, intense, scared feeling, which is probably what the developer intended. In regards to the music, there are only a few tracks. However, the tracks that are present, like the art style, give off that dark, intense, scared feeling as well, setting the atmosphere adequately. Overall, would I recommend Meet Her There? For the developer's first game, I think it's adequate. I would give this a neutral rating, but since Steam doesn't have that option, I'll give it a positive. The story execution could have been better even though I believe the update makes the story's message a little clearer. I would have liked for there to have been CGs, but I can see why that might not have been possible. For the asking price, I'd say that if you want to give this a try, it's best to wait for a sale. It took me a little over 30 minutes to obtain all of the achievements and get the true ending. Overall, for what it is, it's a neat little game. The two-color palette is pretty oppressive and really helps the tone of the game come across. The ending felt like it conveyed what it wanted to, and I enjoyed it. The writing is very..... utilitarian. There really isn't much to it, every conversation flowed a little unnaturally and very much felt like a way to get you from point A to B to C. The narration suffered from this too, its definitely readable, it just feels a little..... clunky. Lots of "tell", not a lot of "show". I completed the game on the second try and felt no real need to hunt for the other achievements because I wasn't sure if there was a real point to searching the world for alternate paths. Stronger writing and better prose would have probably helped this. But, for it's price point its a neat little experience. I'm glad I played it
"It is what it is" is the first thought that comes to mind. In short, no spoilers, you learn this within the first 2-3 minutes and this info sets you up for the rest of the game: your friend sent some peculiar texts that hint that something not very good has happened or is going to happen, and no one knows where she is. Her parents have called the police but otherwise they're not really that bothered and take no responsibility. A friend at school spoke to her just before the disappearance but is reluctant to give you any information other than what you already know. Why would she hide things from me of all people? You keep doing the same things over & over in a cursed time-loop. How can you make it stop? How can you find her? It's a nice enough little narrative adventure. The concept that you re-live the same day over and over can make it a bit repetitive but enough new things happen to not burn you out and it is of course quite short, but it isn't offensively priced. I really like the art-style and colour-palette, atmospherically it fits really well and the map mechanic and time-loop concept proves that this developer is able to be a bit creative and unique. It's not another identical visual novel narrative made in the same way as all the others. I wouldn't say the story is amazing but I wouldn't say it is horrid either, I don't know... I found it a bit weak and not as hard-hitting as I wished for & I found the main character to be a little aggressive and irrational, I was not a big fan of that. Again, it is what it is: a mediocre little game where a Mixed rating would be more appropriate than a Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down. It's this developers first game and it is a fairly strong start for what the game is, practice makes perfect as they say, and they proved that they are able to do some of their own thing and think outside the box in terms of how the game is paced. It feels as if people so often expect and demand a life-changing experience from anything they play nowadays when it is a story game, set your exceptions in a more realistic place. And if you're not willing to pay 2$ for an as-advertised short game then don't buy it. It is pathetic how many people give games negative reviews for literally no other reason than it being short when that is made very clear in all reviews and written very clearly on the store page to indeed be the reality of the situation.
