There's a lack of everything, and above all a lack of finish, as the game seems to have been rushed and released too quickly.

Gameplay:
There are only 10 competitions in the game, which isn't enough and they're all too short. Biathlon: Very interesting, but not the best, some other games do better. The race is simple and the shots require concentration and skill, so we've got what we're looking for in the discipline. Playing time is decent. Curling: Sad, we only get half a competition, the game is too short. I don't understand why we're not allowed to play the whole game, the devs seem to have been too lazy to finish the game. This is one of the most negative points of this game, the playing time is far too short. Downhill: The track is very linear, with only one difficulty, but otherwise this competition is the only one I've enjoyed in this game, along with the Biathlon. Movements are flowing compared to other sports. Rider control is not bad. Short track: The worst parts of the game, the shorts are almost unplayable, the short track is too short and the movements are terrible. We can't get in line with the other riders, so if you get within a yard of one another you fall, either you go first and win but if they catch you, they touch you and you fall; No game. Skeleton, Bob: A big red line on the ground to show the right line, we can't take it off, NO! Too slow and jerky, no feeling, we sometimes feel like we're being controlled automatically, falling is possible but you really have to force yourself. Third person view only. Ski/Snow cross: It's slow, too slow, and contact with the other riders is forbidden, as you're falling and they're unaware of your presence on the track. The character is static and the QTE is too fast, sometimes I can't even see it. This difference between the slow movement and the too-fast QTE is annoying, we can never get into the rhythm and it totally spoils the game. Ski jump: Very good but too short, we don't have a qualifying, two jumps and that's it, we want more. This game is all about skill and pressing the timer. Super G: The movements are too jerky, the track is too slow and there's no flow to the game.
While some of the sports are good, the playtime is too short to be of any interest. Yeah... no! No challenge, no commentator, no atmosphere, no replay value. Winter Games 2023 makes a good and promising prototype, but fails as a full-fledged game - especially from a single player's perspective. Graphically it's okay for what it is, the game is well optimized and the essential animations are absolutely fine. The rest is downright meh! The gap between the difficulty levels is too high and most of the disciplines are dumbed down to dull QTEs. No need for tactics, no need to get to know the tracks/courses, just press the right button at the right time. In biathlon, for example, a pretty complex sport, here you don't need to balance your energy, you don't need to control your pulse rate, you can't even decide for yourself when to switch from downhill crouch to skating or how to approach the mat. Everything is pre-set, runs on rails and the player just dumbly presses indicated buttons. I'm well aware that these types of games are heavy on QTE by nature. However, good games of this kind allow the player a minimum of freedom and to get into a rhythm while pressing the buttons. Usually this is achieved through animation, UI/UX "and" sound design. Here it's purely visual in a very clumsy way. Button is displayed, button is pressed, done! In addition, there are incomprehensible game design decisions. The flight phase in Ski Jumping is strange, the behavior of the bobsled is very arcadey, in Downhill and Super-G time runs before the player trips the sensor, and so on. In fact, all this wouldn't be so bad if the player wasn't completely disconnected from the competition due to the way it's presented. Nothing is simulated. You make your run and are instantly presented with completely meaningless results from practically non-existent opponents. This leads to the fact that the atmosphere of the different sports cannot be trasported at all. You can't be excited about your own result or failures of opponents, you can't be angry about your own mistakes or good performances of the opponents, you simply can't follow what your opponents are doing, and you have no advantage or disadvantage, both gameplay-wise and emotionally, no matter if you come first or fourth. And since you are so emotionally distanced from your player character, after a brief time I got the feeling the game was wantonly wasting my time. That there are always only four participants means the game is designed solely for local multiplayer. This also explains why there is no element of progression in the game. As there is no tournament structure (e.g. World Cup) of the individual sports and in the individual disciplines the focus is purely on the run of the player, there is basically no reason for a single player, playing a discipline twice, no matter the result achieved. Due to the poor presentation and the lack of sports atmosphere, I also can't imagine that the game will be fun in local multiplayer more than once. It seems that the developer concentrated exclusively on the technical implementation of the 10 disciplines and didn't give a thought to how the individual disciplines could function as a whole as an exciting and motivating game. Moreover, rules and procedures of the sports have not really been respected by the developer. That's a pity. Since the old RTL games don't run on my PC anymore, I was hoping to find a kind of successor here. What I found was a half-baked, shallow and, above all, overpriced game which is just no fun at all. The only discipline that works reasonably well from a game and gameplay perspective is Curling. But here, too, a totally nonsensical game design desicion of an elimination throw is played in case of a tie, which is simply out of place when playing as a single player. The most annoying thing though is, that the potential is obviously there, but the game doesn't seem to have been thought through or developed to the end or the only goal was to provide a quick multiplayer fix to the people who really have nothing to do at all and accidentally have two or three friends over who also don't know what to do with their time either.
I put it on Hard opponents the first downhill skiing race I tried, I won by 10 seconds and that was with many time penalties as well lol, dont waste your time with this.
TO THE DEVELOPERS/URGENT: The game is so good but URGENT: The level of difficoult need to be more!! In the Ski the number 1 is with 2:00 minutes in Hard Level and the player can make 1:30 so easy in the first time!! Just adjust the times of the CPU IA and is Done.... The second thing: The completitions are so simples. In Curling we can play only 1 play (Winner have 1st , Looser have 2nd. DONE, no more!), is needed Quarters/Semi/Final, etc (more quantity). Just with this the game will be incredible.
I like the game pretty much. Multiplayer is the most fun, but it´s also nice to play it alone. I´m playing the bobsleigh with Jamaica - Cool runnings style ;)
