The first couple hours of this game were nice and the card battling was decent but man I got soft locked out of my games story, I had to force close the game several times and all the characters started glitching and I found like 20 WAYS to get out of the map. The game (besides the card battling) is hilariously unpolished and unfinished. Can not recommend.
Been playing for a few hours, and I could describe the gameplay as a mix of classic Hearthstone and a board game, in terms of how the positioning matters. While the game does have a few small bugs, the discord for the game has been very active in reporting them, and the devs have been incredibly responsive in fixing them, or committing to the fixes. I really enjoy games like these, and feel like there could be a little more leaning into the features that make the game great (positioning of your buildings, building variety, etc), but for an indie studio, this is a great first step. Gameplay: 7/10 - It gets a little simplistic since card unlocks are fairly slow. The game mostly seems to boil down to compounding advantages - a good early game leads to a general snowball effect. There could definitely be better card balancing, since some of them seem far worse than others. Customization: 8/10 - There are a ton of cosmetics for your character, and you unlock them at a pretty decent rate. There also seem to be a bunch of different animals that you can unlock to play as. Campaign: 7/10 - Genuinely witty characters at times, and the fun gameplay work to distract from a sometimes-confusing map. The devs are currently working on some better markers and pathfinding to more quickly find objectives. Online: I can't rate this since I haven't yet played an online match - I think it will probably be more challenging than the NPCs in the campaign, I'm looking forward to it. Music: 9/10 - Genuinely really good and chill music. I wish the "close to winning" music played for a longer duration in the match. Controls: 5/10 - Some of these are wonky. I'm not really sure why CTRL closes some menus, and alt opens up a small side menu. I think this is a very approachable mix of card and board game for various skill levels. I'm definitely going to keep playing it for a while.

I'm not usually one for deck-building games, but the blending with city-building on a map grid added an engaging extra dimension, even with relatively simple card combinations. Usually, I find the learning curves and long-established metas of deck-builders too intimidating to get into, but not with Wild Country. The art direction and sound design is also immediately cute and endearing, making this a great pick for anyone looking for a cozy vibe with their chill strategy game.
I'm enjoying it, like the concept and the cute animals, but there are still some (sometimes major) bugs. UI/UX could also be improved in some places. The developer(s?) are super active in Discord though and quick to fix the reported bugs and implement suggestions. There have been 2 or 3 updates already. If you want (almost) bug-free, maybe wait a few days before you jump in. You're discovering a world of animals, that like to play a competitive game. Next to competing with them in this game inside the game (a deck-builder city-builder mix), there's a world to explore with collectables and new competitors, sometimes the animals just give you some hints or chit-chat. You unlock new map areas and cards for your deck over time. I enjoy the game-in-game the most, but the rest is also nice. There are no difficulty settings and for me the matches so far have been in a nice spot difficulty-wise. Not too easy, but also not too hard. As I'm learning the game, I won some and I lost some. When you lose, you just try again, there's no penalty or game over. There are multiple possible goals for a match, so there's some variation and for me personally some of them feel easier than others.
I've not even put a full hour into the game but I definitely have both some hopes and concerns! The good: I like the art style, it's cute cozy and the mechanics I think are pretty easy to learn. I hadn't expected the open world element and the dialogue is cute. There already being cosmetics to unlock and seemingly zones to explore with various silly conversations to be had bodes well! This feels like a game I could potentially really enjoy! The bad: Firstly, everything moves VERY slow. Transitions between turns and various actions taking place, even just drawing cards, feels oddly tedious. An option to speed up the game as a whole would be nice! The UI could use some work, especially in the overworld. In the game itself I found myself wishing I could select a card to bring it to the center of the screen and read not only the effects of the individual cards but also what the symbols meant. They aren't the hardest thing to just figure out but a little more clarity I think would help to make this game more approachable! The overworld actually quickly became overwhelming and finding the buttons to open card packs and navigate the map took a minute. I personally found myself a little overwhelmed and I think even a little motion sick. If you can put up with things moving a little slow and a bit of trial and error to learn and navigate the UI, I think this game can quickly shape up to be my next Armello fix. I'm excited to unlock new customization, critters, and build new decks!
The 2 first sec 4 game breaking bug 1 stuck in a convo but i can move 2 manage to talk to the tuto guy but his sound stuck 3 in the tuto i cant click and restart the game 4 After i restart im stuck in the desktop but the game is working in the backround Maybe its a good game but not right now
Initial Impressions: I like this game. It's charming and surprisingly strategic with excellent room for growth from a dedicated team. The gameplay isn't even something I generally gravitate to, but I found myself playing almost 3 hours of this game last night because I didn't want to stop. Campaign -- 7/10: The campaign story is somewhat engaging and at least a good backdrop to excuse fights with a variety of charming, odd, or downright rude NPCs. The quests in-game are mostly "beat this person" or "find this thing on the map," but I cannot think of too many other quest types that would fit this style of campaign. The map is a little big to traverse at times, but I do like the environment variety, even if I sometimes get turned around. Gameplay -- 7/10: I will quote Butler's review here, since his opinion matches mine perfectly "It gets a little simplistic since card unlocks are fairly slow. The game mostly seems to boil down to compounding advantages - a good early game leads to a general snowball effect. There could definitely be better card balancing, since some of them seem far worse than others." I want to add that a style of game like this is all about tempo, since the 5k win condition limits alternate win conditions from games like Hearthstone. PvP Potential -- 8/10: I have not played a PvP match yet (grinding the campaign first), but I think this game would be really fun to play against a human opponent. There are certainly better and worse cards currently, but I think there are enough good cards for a decent variety of unique cards in decks. Music -- 8/10: The music is good and fits the game most of the time. I wish there was more music in the beginning stages of a match, since that plays for a while and gets a little repetitive. It's a nice, chill song, though, so it doesn't get stale, just a little old. Controls -- 4/10: There is some funkiness here that needs to get hammered out. Sometimes Ctrl is used for things, sometimes enter, sometimes space can be used and is hidden instead. Controls Customization -- 0/10: No current ability to change interaction buttons, which could make it difficult for users on trackpad or accessibility purposes. Bugs -- 7/10: I would be remiss not to mention these. I started playing this game 2 days after launch and have not run into any of the breaking bugs in the negative reviews. I have encountered a few bugs myself, but I would not say they detract from the game in any significant manner minus one that I have been unable to replicate since. The dev team seems active and engaged with fixing both minor and major bugs, and have pushed out daily hotfixes to improve the overall experience. I would definitely purchase this game again, even if it wasn't on sale. I'm looking forward to further updates and seeing where this game goes. I'm super excited to finish the campaign and hop into ranked matches.
Great relaxing deck building experience! We all hate Robbie.
I generally like this game and think that there are some solid bones here, and am leaving a positive review as genuine effort has been put into this game and 9 reviews total is a very unfortunate launch. I have been keeping an eye on this game as I am always eager to find deck builders which have permanent progression (i.e. not rogue-likes), and was very excited to try it out. But while the fundamentals of this game is right, there are many polishing issues remaining such as the abysmally slow match animations, the mouse cursor remaining on screen as you run around the over world and resolutions being cap out at Full HD (i.e. 1080).
