Whitetail Challenge

Game and controls are horrible. clunky controls, no customization, cannot adjust mouse sensitivity. graphics are crap. by far the worst game i have tried in years. I do not reccomend this game at all. refund requested through steam.

[b] Whitetail challenge [/b] is an attempt to create a realistic hunter/survival game in which your aim is to hunt bucks with guns and survive. There are currently 5 levels at the time of writing this review (8/7/2016). Each level has a different environment. In order to progress from a level to a higher level, one must hunt a buck or survive the initial half day, night and the following day. You must also explore the map to find provisions such as food and medicines which help you survive longer. After playing the game for about 5 hrs (2 hrs offline) I made short notes about what I felt was positive and negative about the game. The following are the positives and negatives of my experience of the game. [h1] Positives: [/h1] I like the environment and the lighting specially how the environment is slightly brighter when the moon is out at night as opposed to when it is coming out or going down. I liked the graphics on the trees. The shooting mechanic is challenging and requires time getting used. I think generally the graphics are mediocre, but the bucks/game camoflauges really well in the environment and it is challenging to find them before they see you. I like how the provisons are scarce and you have to learn their locations and navigate to them when you need them. Survival in the night is challenging when you know that a coyote is after you. [h1] Negatives: [/h1] The menu is really simple and there is little graphics/game customization in the settings. The game could not run correctly on my laptop`s native 1080p resolution even when I checked the box in the settings. The screen was cut from the right side which did not allow me to see the helath bar. So I played in a lower resolution.This could have been a bug or a one-off but was still annoying. There is no pause menu in the game. I learned it the hard way in my first serious attempt to complete the first level. Press the escape button and you simply go to the main menu and none of your progress is saved. The graphics are mediocre and the game simply does not look like a game from today but something that was built in some old 2005 engine. The sound the hunter makes while walking is very loud and annoying, it barely changes and hinders hearing buck movement. There is no running or fast walking option moving forward, you just walk really loudly. But what I found funny was that the hunter can move quicker when you press the forward and one of the side buttons at the same time. Though that could be a bug. The game feels like its in beta and not polished enough. The deer AI needs to be improved and there is no hardcore tracking mechanics like hoove prints etc. The deer do not have realistic running animations. Finally there is no tutorial. [h1] Final thoughts: [/h1] This game has a good concept and some very challenging mechanics but mediocre graphics, bugs and minimal customization options make it more of a challenge playing it than actaully being challenging. There is no reward system or flow in the game and it does not currently satisfy it's aim or it`s pricetag. I would [b]not[/b] recommend buying this game unless it is improved. Selten so ein Blödsinn gesehen wie dieses Spiel hier! Für 10,-€ darf der Spieler mehr verlangen als ein "Hunting" Game wo man ja scheinbar nicht mal schießen kann weil es keine Waffen Ingame gibt bzw. schon aber man kann sie nicht benutzen!! da haste schon nach 10min kein Bock mehr & dafür zahlste 10,-€ ist doch Witzlos ganz ehrlich! "The Most Realistic Hunting Games" im Glaube vielleicht!

Worst game ever, i buy it its peace of ♥♥♥♥!

Not so much about hunting, it seems more a puzzle game that is about survival. Someone will probably make a walk through soon; when to pick up food or shelter by the camp fire etc, No maps, no wind, limited freedom of movement, ankward shooting simulation. I guess we have to wait a bit for updates and fixes. For now I would say; not interesting enough. So sadly a: no.

I found this game to be very realistic in terms of hunting. The realistic gameplay mixed with the unique control scheme creates a difficult and rewarding challenge. I would highly recommend this game to anyone reading this review!

This might seem a bit obvious but the game deafults to the lowest quality of graphics and screen resolution. So, the first thing I did was enter the Controls and then check the Hi Res checkbox and select the Best Fidelity Graphics and apply. I think the graphics are great and I really like the night transitions. Plays like a real outdoors hunting adventure in my opinion. Just a little bit of patience is required.

Honestly, I paid very little for this game (literally a couple of £)...and I wouldn't recommend it even if it was free. I wanted to try and get all the achievements, I think that is going to certainly be a challenge! No map, no ability to run or change key binds, no indication of time passing. Very crude shooting mechanics that barely seem to work unless you're basically on top of the animal you want to shoot...just quite strange overall. More of a collectors piece these days than anything else. It's playable, but certainly not enjoyable. 1/10
