Where the Snow Settles

Where the Snow Settles is a very short game (90 mins), so buy in a deep sale. I would classify it as a walking simulator as it is very linear and you don't do anything except direct the heroine. It is a very gentle story of the coming of age of Aurelia, a very timid girl scared of her own shadow. She and her sister Esta sneak out of their village trying to find out why their world is collapsing with such a severe winter and constant earth tremors. Various spirits befriend Aurelia on her journey as she makes world changing decisions. Game play is easy and untaxing as you point Aurelia in the right direction and interact with some stones. Environment is simple, bleak and desolate. I saw no wildlife. Music was calming and evocative at the right moments. This is a game that children can relate to as Aurelia battles her inner fears and doubts. It's simple and gentle style would aid any anxious child. As an Aussie, I have to recommend this game because it is supported by the Tasmanian govt. 7.5/10 Oh...and I forgot to mention that there are no achievements nor trading cards at this stage.

It's a very short game, but it's an extremely well made game. If you really appreciate calm and relaxing games where you don't have to do too much, but also get to enjoy the narrative (eg. like Telltale games) then it's another game that's quite good. I like them, and this is one that satisfies visually, in narrative, world building and music/audio. The price may seem a little steep, but this studio has been working on this game for about 5 years! No doubt learning a lot along the way. They will no doubt be taking these skills into new jobs and opportunities. I'd say it's worth it considering the time they spent making it. For my Tasmanian friends - this is a game made in Tasmania! You're supporting the Tas games industry 😉 (I'm technically a part of that) Big selling point - you might actually finish this game for those who own a lot of games on Steam haha. I love finishing games, and I've done that!
