Werewolf: The Apocalypse — Purgatory

If you enjoyed Heart of the Forest, you will also like this one! If you’re new to the series, I recommend playing HotF first as it eases you into the lore a bit more gradually. There’s something special about Different Tales’ visual novels. Like this studio’s other work, Purgatory has an engaging story that grabbed me immediately, beautiful watercolor artwork and music, and the RPG mechanics are fun. But what really sticks is a certain atmospheric melancholy and lyricism. It’s a suspenseful werewolf story that also takes the time to lovingly describe things like a cozy coffee shop or intimate little conversations with strangers, but somehow never feels slow. I love how grounded in our real world and politics the narrative is. It made me really want to visit Poland. Thanks to the devs for another great experience. I hope they can put out more stories soon.

WAAAAY too short! Game itself was different, and excellent, but cost WAY too much for such a short game! i could have played that for 40 hrs or more, and enjoyed the storytelling, pace , layout & mechanisms,,,but....

Love the Werewolf brand. Anything by White Wolf is amazing. The story is great even though I'm playing it out of order. "Heart of the Forest" should be played first.

Brave game with impressive illustrations. I like the world of darkness setting and this one is a nice addition to it.

Während die Illustrationen schön und die Musik passend sind, hat die Story leider so seine Schwächen. Sie hat ihre schönen Momente, aber zu oft wird ein Thema angeschnitten, aber dann doch nicht behandelt. Oder man Kürzt es ab oder lässt es einfach komplett fallen. Immer wieder dachte ich, dass sie eine philosophische Frage aufwerfen wollten um sie dann aus verschiedenen Perspektiven zu beleuchten, aber dann wartet man und wartet und stellt schließlich fest, dass nichts kommt und die Chance einen spannenden Einblick zu zeigen vergeben wurde; und ich nicht sicher bin warum der fragliche Abschnitt überhaupt in der Geschichte war. Dabei hätte es so viele tolle Gelegenheiten! Auch bei den Charakteren hätte ich mir etwas mehr Tiefgang gewünscht. Das fand ich in „Heart of the Forest” deutlich schöner, wo man die Konflikte und Zusammenhänge beleuchtet, was die Entscheidung und die Tragik der Garou umso spannender und erfahrbarer macht. Technisch hat alles gut geklappt (außer, dass eine Illustration zu früh kam am Ende aber sonst alles gut). Ich mag die WoD Welt sehr, aber leider war dieses Game etwas enttäuschend.
