Werewolf: The Apocalypse — Purgatory

LOVE THIS GAME BUT GOOD GAIA WAS IT SHORT MAKE ANOTHER ONE AND LONGER PLEASE RAUUUUUUU

A great game that expands the law and there are more options to shift and examine the story from two different angles. Would of liked some of the decisions from Heart of the Forest to cross over but still worth the repeated gameplay.

I have spent around 35 hours in this game and I’m still near the beginning. 😅 Not because the game is slow — but because I keep stopping to think. The writing is surprisingly rich: the philosophy of the Triat, refugee trauma, grief, politics, spirituality, moral ambiguity, symbolism, character psychology… even small dialogue choices can make you sit there analyzing them for minutes. This is less “play fast and move on” and more “immerse yourself and reflect.” If you enjoy narrative-heavy games with atmospheric writing and meaningful choices, this game deserves far more attention.

This is an improvement over the first in every way, in my opinion. The plot is longer and more engaging. I highly recommend it if you played and enjoyed the first one or if you're a fan of the World of Darkness in general.

Während die Illustrationen schön und die Musik passend sind, hat die Story leider so seine Schwächen. Sie hat ihre schönen Momente, aber zu oft wird ein Thema angeschnitten, aber dann doch nicht behandelt. Oder man Kürzt es ab oder lässt es einfach komplett fallen. Immer wieder dachte ich, dass sie eine philosophische Frage aufwerfen wollten um sie dann aus verschiedenen Perspektiven zu beleuchten, aber dann wartet man und wartet und stellt schließlich fest, dass nichts kommt und die Chance einen spannenden Einblick zu zeigen vergeben wurde; und ich nicht sicher bin warum der fragliche Abschnitt überhaupt in der Geschichte war. Dabei hätte es so viele tolle Gelegenheiten! Auch bei den Charakteren hätte ich mir etwas mehr Tiefgang gewünscht. Das fand ich in „Heart of the Forest” deutlich schöner, wo man die Konflikte und Zusammenhänge beleuchtet, was die Entscheidung und die Tragik der Garou umso spannender und erfahrbarer macht. Technisch hat alles gut geklappt (außer, dass eine Illustration zu früh kam am Ende aber sonst alles gut). Ich mag die WoD Welt sehr, aber leider war dieses Game etwas enttäuschend.

Love the Werewolf brand. Anything by White Wolf is amazing. The story is great even though I'm playing it out of order. "Heart of the Forest" should be played first.
