I think I accidentally downloaded a time capsule. It’s basically “2007 energy” in game form — loud, weird, slightly chaotic, and like someone tried to recreate nostalgia from memory alone. You run, you jump, things happen, and at some point you stop asking questions because the game clearly isn’t answering them anyway. I bought it for the achievement and it cost me patience. Patience and more patience.

Welcome back to 2007
Recomendo.

Thought its an achievement grinder, but it has some content. I can confirm the game does look like a 2007 game so 10/10!

Welcome Back To 2007 is a deliberately nostalgic and eccentric indie platformer that invites players into a tongue-in-cheek celebration of mid-2000s gaming culture. Developed and published by Siberian Mouse, it captures the irreverent spirit of the era it references, merging old-school pixel aesthetics with absurd humor and exaggerated creativity. From its opening moments, the game exudes a raw indie charm—gritty textures, surreal character designs, and the unmistakable energy of a project made out of passion rather than polish. It’s an unapologetic time capsule of 2007, when emo culture, internet irony, and experimental indie games intertwined in unpredictable ways. At its core, the game functions as a 2D side-scrolling platformer where players control an “Emo Boy” who literally uses his tears as ammunition and collects cigarettes to power his jetpack. The gameplay loop is simple but undeniably quirky: jump, shoot, and float through thirty-one stages filled with bizarre adversaries that range from “evil grandmas” and “security guards” to “chavs,” “weeaboos,” and “haters.” These choices reflect the game’s satirical tone, poking fun at internet archetypes and youth subcultures of the late 2000s. The mechanics themselves are straightforward but carry a unique comedic edge—the idea of using tears as a weapon and cigarettes as fuel gives the game a personality that makes it stand apart from the countless minimalist platformers on the market. The design philosophy behind Welcome Back To 2007 seems intentionally self-aware. Every element, from the simplistic physics-based jetpack to the tongue-in-cheek dialogue and over-the-top boss battles, feels crafted to remind players of a time when indie developers took wild creative risks without worrying about mass-market appeal. The soundtrack by Anacom & Golod underscores this energy, pairing upbeat retro beats with melancholic tones that fit perfectly with the “emo nostalgia” theme. Even though the visuals are not technically advanced, the atmosphere succeeds in evoking the charm of small-scale indie projects from the Flash and early Steam Greenlight eras. There’s an endearing roughness to the art direction that makes the world feel alive in its own odd way. As a game experience, however, Welcome Back To 2007 is not without its limitations. While it offers variety in levels and enemies, repetition sets in after a while, and some stages feel more like filler than progression. The platforming controls can be clunky at times, and the collision detection occasionally causes frustration during precise jumps or aerial sequences. The difficulty curve is uneven, with some sections being surprisingly punishing while others are trivially easy. Still, the game’s eccentric personality compensates for many of these flaws—each moment feels less about mechanical mastery and more about embracing the absurd premise and nostalgic humor it thrives on. What ultimately makes Welcome Back To 2007 enjoyable is its authenticity. It doesn’t try to be more than it is; it’s a loving parody of the culture it represents. It captures that era’s strange optimism and angst, wrapping it all in a blend of comedy, chaos, and heartfelt sincerity. Players who grew up in the mid-2000s will likely appreciate the references and style, while newcomers may find it a refreshing change of pace from overly serious or polished platformers. Its small file size, simple graphics, and old-school progression structure make it a brief but memorable experience that serves as both homage and satire. In the end, Welcome Back To 2007 feels like a game made for a niche audience—those who remember that strange transitional era of gaming where creativity flourished in odd corners of the internet and sincerity coexisted with irony. It may not boast the finesse of modern platformers, but it radiates personality and humor in every frame. Siberian Mouse has managed to create something that is part retro time machine, part self-aware parody, and part genuine love letter to a bygone generation of gaming culture. For players who enjoy small, eccentric projects with a nostalgic twist, it’s a weird, funny, and oddly heartfelt trip back in time. Rating: 7/10
