it's fun for a bit, the idea of weaving and unweaving parts of the world is quite fresh
The controls are really sh*tty, the combat is horrible and you are bombared with enemies just for the fun of it. Having to tie down a bunch of critters to progress is annoying af and it's repeated many more times than i cared to count. it felt like the "kill all of these enemies" puzzles were more common than actual ones. The boss fights are so damn stupid and unpredictable. You can know the pattern of the bosses`attacks and still lose or take countless tries before you finally win. You never really know where to go. There is no map and you have to fly around and hopw to find where you are supposed to be. the dialogue is never helpful. There are also instances where you are able to traves below the map but these paths are so badly done that looking for them is the worst. I've also had the game bug out and i was not able to talk to people anymore. The game should have been over by now but i am still only half way through. The combat prolongs everything, not in a good way and i just want it to be over. This looked like such a cute game and the idea of stitching the word back together was so iteresting, sadly that is never really relevant and you could just let the wholes be wholes... The game is horribly overpriced for the mess you are getting.
I enjoyed my time with Weaving Tides, though if you are playing with mouse and keyboard, it can be a little frustrating, as you lack the precision a controller can offer for a game like this. Weaving Tide's greatest strengths are its satisfying weaving mechanic, its great art direction, and interesting lore. I enjoyed learning about this world's inhabitants, and its history. Its biggest downside was a game-breaking bug at the end that blocked progression. The combat is also a little clunky, though that's partly because I was on mouse and keyboard. Overall, despite its flaws, I'd still recommend checking this out; if anything, just to experience something a little different from most other games out there. The weaving mechanic and the whole 'woven' aesthetic of the world are very cool.
Was gifted this by a friend whom I think got the key from the Kickstarter. I think. It's been 3 years and my backlog only ever grows... Ahem. Not to go off on a tangent like a certain yellow weaver. This game is absolutely adorable, mystifying and a pleasure to play. As the only human in a clothy, woven world, your peaceful existence is shaken when strange, destructive creatures begin to wreak havoc. You travel beyond the places you know to learn more about their source - as well as your own. Every puzzle and every enemy require you to do some stitching in the world-weave. Not every patch of ground is a weave though, so you sometimes need to put a little more thought in how you can connect your weaver's tail-ribbon in a way that defeats an enemy or opens a path. That's not to say you can't wrap over solid ground, as long as the distance between your stitch points is not too far apart. Diving in and out of the weave is not only convenient, but also necessary, and thorough exploration of potential underground passages will yield bonus treasure chests and secrets along the way. One thing I can very much commend is that the game always warns you when you're about to reach the point of no return and move to the next chapter. If you'd rather backtrack and explore more, that's your cue before moving on. Although don't despair if you later find that you didn't 100% a chapter, as you can continue the story with chapter selection as well. Some of the treasure chests contain ribbons, which are in essence purely cosmetic and (sadly) only used in the playground mode. Playground is essentially your very own giant cross-stitch that you can fill as you'd like. I haven't played around with it much aside for the achievement, but for some people it might scratch a very specific itch. Bosses can be hard, but are never unfair, and it generally becomes pretty obvious what you have to do to beat them if you watched them for a bit. Dying isn't much more than a set-back to the latest checkpoint. And if you end up struggling with bosses or puzzles, occasionally your weavers will offer hints as well, that you are free to take or ignore. This game could be recommended for young and old alike, and it is very charming in sounds and sights. Even after finishing I am left wanting more, be it more of the wondrous critters or even a continuation of the story. If anything my only gripe would be how short it is, because I definitely want to play longer. You can easily tell how much love went into this game.
