I never received the email registration, but somehow I kept trying and got in, but was unable to start the game.
This is a broken mobile app (the game crashes in the tutorial for me). It's also free on Android, so if you think your gaming rig would be better off as a telephone, then by all means ignore this anyway because it's broken. I mean the screenshots even show that this is a mobile app, they're not even trying to hide it! It's a dumbed down version of Civilization. It has a EULA and it looks like they want your email address and they want to harvest personal data from your playing this, if you can get it to work. Basically this is just nasty mobile app cancer and should be avoided.
Multiplayer does not work... haven't tried single player yet but game cannot be played with friends.
Before I played WarKind, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
6/10 An f2p fantasy-themed TBS. Good: - free, and you can play vs AI at least without purchasing anything - a fairly balanced combat system somewhat similar to Fantasy General and Civ 5. There are melee, ranged, flying, and a healer unit + a hero with some abilities - music is pleasant So-so: - English is shaky. The dev is a German, and makes mistakes in English which are typical for Germans. This makes the tutorial harder to comprehend. Though, since I know German, it helped when I tried to mentally translate the text to German and back to English to understand what's meant - the tutorial is there but it's not designed well and obviously wasn't playtested. Too much info is piled in endless popups without giving you a chance to look around or try what's being explained. Also, tutorial dialogs overlap with tooltip dialogs and there is a feeling of a visual mess on the screen during the tutorial - I'm not sure if tutorial even covers everything. E.g. that units auto-heal by 10 hp if they end their turn inside the attack range of a friendly city - graphics are okay-ish: pretty generic and somewhat amateurishly drawn 2D. It's in casual style typical for mobile games but lacks polish, particle effects or anything to give it life. Similarly, the 3D models of heroes in the menus are simplistic - combat is somewhat basic and lacks depth because the game was designed for mobile platforms first. There is less than a dozen unit types that don't earn exp or change stats. Units do fixed dmg at any hp level, so the dominant strategy is just to focus all attacks on one enemy. There are a few buildings you can build in cities. Economy is similarly simple: just 2 resource types which are gathered automatically by a city if you found it near a gold mine and a quarry. You can upgrade the city with walls, a tower (which attacks enemies like Civ 5/6 cities), upgrade its range to 2, and then upgrade the walls to a castle. That's it. - units can't move thru each other - I know it's just a design choice. But when you don't see the reachable area of units, often clicks result in units trying to take huge roundabout paths to get around blocking friendly units. And then you can't undo (because, since there is fog of war in the game and and you could discover enemies, undo would be like a cheat, so there has to be no undo). Bad: - apart from toolitps with unit stats shown when you mouse over units, there are no other quality-of-life features. For example, it would greatly improve the game if the unit's HP and attack power were shown as numbers over the unit - that's what TBS games (especially mobile ones) often do for clarity. Also, when a unit is selected, it would be good to highlight reachable tiles. Also the attack range. - ranged attacks should be done with a simple click on the enemy, without the need to select the "shoot" or "fireball" ability. Similarly with city towers - no way to repair cities (?), and they seem to not restore hp over time - to see which units still can attack you need to select them - no icon or anything over the unit itself. Overall, it's a rather unpolished and simple TBS on a hex grid which looks like a project done by students though brought to a state where you could already get a good grade since all the functionality is implemented. However, since no one actually cared to make this whole thing fun to play, there are obvious missing things, and the game ends up annoying and cryptic during your first battles. I quickly lost the first battle because I was constantly running into situations where I expected the rules to be X but they turning out to be Y, with no possibility to undo or reload. In my second battle I also did many mistakes, but it was "easy" difficulty, so eventually I won. Non-surprisingly, there is no one online. There is no lobby, so one has to rely on Unity's auto-matching, and there is no way to know when or if anyone ever comes online. But with these production values and an unfriendly onboarding, I'm pretty sure no one will, even (especially) mobile players (guess it's also cross-platform multiplayer). Btw another question would be the originality and why a game like this would need to be made in the first place. I dunno, maybe this isn't the correct question to a mobile game. Still an unvote since there is no neutral vote. After all, it's free and technically playable, could even be called "solid", and I didn't encounter any bugs.
