About
Warhounds is a turn-based tactical & strategy game, inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance, about a mercenary squad with an old-school action movie vibe. Command an elite team of bold, stylish operators, wage a campaign in an alternate-future Africa, and decide the war’s outcome mission by mission.
Calculate lines of fire and flank angle, break cover, and seize the high ground. Every turn is decided more by your planning and tactics, less - by RNG.
Combine classes: Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier. Pick the right gear for the job, treat and extract, and protect key operatives. Take calculated risks. High combat lethality makes every decision count.
Recruit, upgrade, purchase equipment, and handle logistics, finances, medical supplies, and downtime. Choose allied factions, build relationships, gather intel, and execute covert ops. Your choices have consequences: your decisions determine your access to missions, gear, and allies.
Deploy drones, combat scanners, smoke, and optical camo. Upgrade and improve your kit to win under any conditions.
Knock out a mission in 25-40 minutes, or settle in for a long session. Customize the challenge: go for a brutal tactical hell or a light, relaxing run.
No point-blank misses - flank + close distance = 100% hit chance.
Real ballistics, destructible cover, vertical gameplay, and cone overwatch.
Mercenaries with character and mission-focused loadouts without any busywork.
Base management, contracts, budgets, allies, and consequences for your actions.
Assemble your squad. Take the contract. Decide Africa’s future beyond 2035.

The graphics are… fine. That's probably the most diplomatic way I can put it. I wouldn't buy a new GPU specifically for Warhounds, but I also stopped thinking about the graphics pretty quickly because the actual combat is doing the heavy lifting. Once you're sitting behind cover trying to figure out how to murder six guys with four soldiers, nobody cares about the texture on the wall anymore. The tactical gameplay is surprisingly enjoyable. Give it some more polish and variety and I think this could turn into something really good.
The campaign feels more focused than JA3, while the combat has a different rhythm from XCOM. The flexible action economy is probably the biggest reason - there's much more freedom to move, shoot and reposition within the same turn. AI needs work, the launch stability was disappointing and I'd love to see more abilities and mission variety.

Game crashed on me a couple of times during the first missions. I decided not to refund because I was actually enjoying the gameplay and figured I'd give the devs a chance to fix it. Patch came out, played several more hours, zero crashes. That's pretty much all I wanted. Now keep polishing the rest of the game.
I love turn based tactical games. I had high hopes when I saw this game. But then I played it. At Newbie settings, the AI always knows were your character is regardless of line of site or concealment. They have better equipment, better armor, do more damage, And become highly skilled and gain accuracy if you take out a "leader" other enemies hit you more often and do more damage than you can. They are more accurate with a shotgun at extreme range than one of your snipers at medium range. Numerous time a sniper with 100% hit chance did 1 point of damage. While enemy AKs hit multiple times at long range and destroy your team. Your first scenarios at Newbie level are 4 v 8. then 4 v 10/ 11 then 4 v 12 to 15. Each time there armor weapons and improves your does not. If you play at veteran level you will fight 30 + and will have to use pure defensive tactics to survive. Most of the time you won't. Not fun at any level. I had high hopes. 49 hours in. I tried all kinds of strategy and SUT. No. sad to say but no.
not worth for 15usd
Game is just like XCOM the RNG on shots even though it says no RNG, the only time no RNG is when you are right next to the enemy. I hit shots on 5% and i miss shots on 95% thats how bad the RNG is. AI has unfair advantage over you, they can snipe you from outside the fog but you cant do the same to them.
The game play is quite similar to XCOM as it says in the description BUT the game contains lots of AI images and portraits that has NOT be tagged as such in the description. Apart from that, it contains what, in my opinion is, heavy racist comments and anti-african propaganda. I cannot recommend this game
Good game, runs well, enjoying the banter between squadmates
Fun game, not a huge gamer so apologies if i get some terminology wrong. i enjoy this type of play style, turn based i believe it is. I have experienced a couple crashes towards the end of some missions but my progress is always saved so that's nice. I do hope the Devs add some more game modes and mods or something but other than that, its fun. looking forward to what they have going on.
This feels like a game made by people who actually like old-school tactical games. There’s no attempt to turn every mechanic into some kind of RPG spreadsheet. You move, take cover, shoot, flank, overwatch and try not to get your soldiers killed. Simple stuff, but when it’s executed properly, that formula is still incredibly satisfying. I would like to see more personality in the characters and more interesting progression. Right now I don't feel particularly attached to my soldiers yet. But that's something that can be fixed. The combat itself is already doing most of the heavy lifting.
