Fun simple arcadey experience, a bit too short but fine. split-screen coop would be nice to have for this kind of game. :)
Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron – Flyboyz Edition, developed and published by Phosphor Game Studios, is a high-octane aerial combat game that brings the chaotic energy of the Orks to life in the skies of the grimdark Warhammer 40K universe. Rather than focusing on the usual ground-based warfare that dominates the franchise, this title throws players into the cockpit of Ork fighter planes, offering a mix of dogfighting, bombing runs, and mayhem fueled by the green-skinned brutes’ love of speed and destruction. From the moment the game begins, it establishes its tone through sheer excess—explosions, shouting, and constant gunfire fill the air, creating an experience that is unapologetically loud, reckless, and full of “dakka,” the Orkish term for an overwhelming barrage of bullets. At its core, Dakka Squadron embraces arcade-style aerial combat over realism. Players take control of a Flyboy, an Ork pilot eager to prove himself in the air by engaging enemy factions across various campaign missions. The controls are designed for accessibility rather than simulation depth, allowing players to perform quick maneuvers, 180-degree turns, and barrel rolls with ease. Combat feels fast-paced and frantic, with an emphasis on reaction and positioning rather than complex flight mechanics. Each mission introduces different objectives—dogfighting enemy aircraft, destroying ground installations, defending allies, or taking on massive boss enemies—and while the fundamentals remain consistent, the energy and humor of the Ork perspective keep things entertaining. The simplicity of the gameplay makes it approachable for newcomers, while fans of classic arcade flight games will find comfort in its responsiveness and rhythm. The customization system adds a layer of progression that keeps the gameplay loop engaging. Completing missions earns “Teef,” the Orks’ currency of choice, which can be spent on new planes, weapons, and upgrades. Each aircraft feels slightly different, offering various trade-offs in speed, durability, and firepower. Weapon customization is one of the game’s highlights—true to Ork design philosophy, everything feels cobbled together but powerful, with guns that roar and rockets that leave trails of destruction across the sky. Players can also personalize their vehicles with different paint schemes, decals, and modifications, embracing the distinct scrap-metal aesthetic that defines the Ork race. While the customization options aren’t as deep as those in large-scale simulators, they provide enough variety to encourage experimentation and a sense of ownership over your Flyboy and his deadly contraption. The presentation of Dakka Squadron captures the spirit of Warhammer 40K’s Ork culture with impressive authenticity. Every aspect of the game is drenched in Orkish personality—from the guttural voice lines filled with humor and aggression to the rusted, makeshift aircraft that look as though they were welded together minutes before takeoff. The environments, while not expansive, serve their purpose well, featuring battlefields scattered with wreckage, fortresses, and targets to obliterate. Explosions and weapon effects are satisfying, and the color palette leans toward dusty reds, metallic grays, and glowing greens, matching the crude industrial tone of the faction. The sound design deserves particular praise for how it blends chaotic music with the constant hum of engines and gunfire, making each battle feel like a symphony of carnage. Even when the visuals betray the game’s modest budget, the energy and atmosphere carry the experience forward. However, the game’s simplicity also exposes its limits over time. The campaign, while entertaining at first, struggles with repetition. Many missions boil down to the same basic formula—fly to a waypoint, shoot down waves of enemies, and destroy key targets. The lack of mission variety and evolving objectives means that long play sessions can feel monotonous, even if the moment-to-moment action remains exciting. Enemy AI is serviceable but not particularly clever, relying on sheer numbers rather than tactical challenge. Boss fights add some spectacle, but they often rely on large health pools rather than creative mechanics, making them feel more like endurance tests than strategic encounters. For players looking for deep tactical play or complex flight dynamics, Dakka Squadron will likely fall short of expectations. Technical performance also varies depending on the platform. On PC, the game runs smoothly enough, though its graphical fidelity is modest, reflecting its indie origins. The textures and models are functional but lack the polish of bigger-budget titles. On consoles, particularly handheld systems, performance can be inconsistent, with frame-rate drops and cluttered user interfaces that make the action harder to follow. These issues don’t ruin the experience but do occasionally pull players out of the immersion. Still, the game’s heart lies in its personality rather than its technical prowess, and fans who value creativity and humor over perfection will likely forgive its rough edges. Ultimately, Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron – Flyboyz Edition succeeds at being exactly what it sets out to be: a loud, fast, and chaotic air combat game that celebrates everything absurd and fun about Ork culture. It doesn’t aim for the realism of traditional flight simulators or the cinematic storytelling of larger Warhammer games. Instead, it focuses on the thrill of flying through a battlefield filled with explosions, yelling “WAAAGH!” as you mow down enemies in true Orky fashion. The repetitive structure and limited depth prevent it from being a truly great game, but it shines as a lighthearted, action-packed experience that’s best enjoyed in short bursts. For fans of the Warhammer universe—especially those who love the humor and brutality of the Orks—Dakka Squadron is a raucous and enjoyable diversion. It may not soar to the heights of the genre’s best, but it delivers pure, unfiltered Orky fun in every chaotic mission. Rating: 7/10
Fairly easy 100 % for achievements, good fun for a few hours, and its 40K what is not to like.
WAAAGGGHHH!!!
do not buy the game becuses it has a bug and the game is died cu'z last time i was on i did not see a single lobby but i am just warning you and waaaaaagh
