This is the VR version of Wardwell House which is an innovative and realistic horror game with outstanding atmosphere. You must find hidden clues and objects of interest that slowly reveal the haunting story. Feel the build-up of fear as you traverse the forest and make your way through the House.
Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/llXOfKBwHdo This is approximately a 30 minute experience. It's a narrative-driven horror mystery where you are transported from scene to scene and you must find the highlighted objects through gaze-based navigation. Once you do, you will open the area to the next scene. Each highlighted objects mostly has text tidbits relating to your predicament and background to the location or story. There are some audio tidbits in here as well. Most of the scenes are static and in black and white (although they are in color towards the end). These are 360 stereoscopic photos. Unfortunately, the scales are off for these scenes. There isn't much gameplay as you're simply looking around for highlighted objects to gaze into them so you can open up the next area. You do NOT use motion controllers at all. There is no locomotion and you must physically turn around (no smooth or snap turning). The game does automatically save your progress after each scene. However, I would recommend finishing the game in one setting. Despite the negatives of this experience, I enjoyed the journey. There is a nice story here with a good mystery that is well-paced. There is good ambient sounds and even the voice actor did a nice job. The musical soundtrack is excellent (although limited). I recommend this game. I think it's a great bargain for only .99 cents. However, it is not for everyone given the lack of gameplay and the gaze-based navigation nature of the experience. Plus the scales being off is a turn off. Despite that, this experience oozes atmosphere and it's a journey well-worth taking, especially at the bargain price. Rate 6.5/10.
Please consider joining my Steam Curator Group.
Wardwell House VR is a Free VR game that is using 360 degree photos. It worked on my HTC Vive system, sounded ok, played ok, looked ok. You have Gaze control only, looking for hotspots at each step. Interesting story that takes around 40 minutes to complete. Try this free experience.
Before I played Wardwell House VR, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
"Wardwell House VR" is a weird and pointless VR tech demo where you look at some 360 photos and wave your arms around a bit. What do you do in the game? The story, revolving around a mysterious island and a haunted house, is entirely unoriginal and predictable. The gameplay mechanics are limited to point-and-click exploration, with little to no engaging interaction or challenge. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. The graphics aren't great, static 360 black and white photos (they couldn't afford colour film???)... and the images aren't even stereoscopic, so there's no 3D effect in your VR headset. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $1 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. There's no financial cost up-front, but you'd still be spending your time and a little hard drive space on a product that's far from the best. There's thousands of better alternatives on Steam.
YO
My first vr game and this wasn't disappointing was playing on a oculus quest 2. Wardwell house is a horror game that you are looking to find a way out from this massive forest that is on a island that you got stranded on. Game play is a 360 vr point and explore game with text.this game is pretty ok was there wasn't lot of jump scares that would make you cry. I would recommend if you are highly new to these sort of games but the story line is interesting part of wardwell house trying to figure out what is going on while exploring and look for materials. I just wish you can actually interact with your hand this would of improve the horror and the realism of this game. I am giving this game a 7/10
