I enjoy the game a good deal and overall i like it. However, there are a few problems with the game. As a vr rts it's amazing but that is only because it does not have much competition in the field. It's simplistic combat where you control up to three groups instead of individual units and you don't control workers at all. Most of the time this isn't an issue but more often then not your going to have to have a rally point at base to build it up because if catapults or archers get into a fight along the way theres no way to pull them out of that fight. The main issue though is your woodcutters are CONSTANTLY dieing. This is because unless you dedicate one of your three forces to protecting the woodcutters( whos area constantly changes as they cut down trees) they are going to die to the invading enemy armys. They don't care if they have a swordsman running after them they are going to chop down that tree. This woudn't be so bad if you could control the map but you can't because of my final and largest issue with the game. Enemy units don't just spawn from the main base. They spawn everywhere. While i don't mind defending my borders from incursions and things it's an entirely different matter when i lose guard towers and other buildings because enemy's spawned inside of my terriory right next to a building and started attacking it. The only defense you have from this is making towers over every square inch of your territory and even then the towers can be destroyed because you can't have repair guys dedicated to certain parts of the island. If a building gets damaged on the other side of the island all of your builders will go running to it leaving the other buildings. Sure those buildings aren't damaged for the moment but they can easily be destoryed by random spawns before the workers can get back. This is another case where steam needs a 'meh " review because while i enjoy the game the constant spawning of enemy units in my territory drains massive amounts of resources and time and to manage and makes the game less fun overall.
For those that like an old school RTS game but want to see how that translates to VR, this is a good effort. It keeps many of the familiar tropes of the genre: gathering resources, building a variety of buildings that unlock skills, and amassing large armies to overwhelm your enemies. VR, however, brings you closer to the battle, allowing you to help out during tough times; you'll be throwing enemies into the air, tossing fireballs or even helping your workers get to their destination faster. This certainly immerses you more in the game and can keep you quite busy. I was happy that my godly skills were not always needed if I could build up a decent offense/defense but in reality it is part of the strategy of the game and taken into account when it comes to balance. Controls are generally intuitive. Graphics are pleasing. I played this on my Quest 2 through Virtual Desktop and generally everything worked well.
A very fun game, at a good price. It keeps you busy, and I was laughing the whole time while playing.
This was a very addictive strategy game where you oversee a series of battles as the WARDEN OF THE ISLES! PROS -So much fun to Build up your troops and grab them to move them around the map and defeat the various enemies threatening the island -Send workers to collect wood and gold to build up your base and defenses -Cute sound effects and voice over! -Very satisfying throwing enemy soldiers out of your base- you can also cast various spell to hold back the enemies including fire balls and elemental creatures that fight for your side -Surprisingly difficult campaign once you get past the first couple levels *The first couple levels will seem basic, but keep going- the developer doesn't want to overwhelm you with too much to keep track of right away. ****Favorite moment***** (minor spoiler for the last level) You face off against a wizard in the last level who can walk across the map like you can and he'll hurl your soldiers away when they get too close to the enemy base! It was such a surprise to see him throwing my men like I've been doing the whole game haha. Clever extra bit of defense for the enemy. CONS - Occasionally my workers would wander off to cut down the same tree which wouldn't actually give resources- so all 10 of my lumberjacks were stuck in a corner of the map doing nothing- this will happen with your soldiers getting stuck inside your own building as well -Your building HUD begins to flicker once you've been playing a level for a little while -You have 3 way points to send soldiers to, but they'll wander really far off to fight approaching enemies, and then travel even further and get themselves killed... I wish they kept closer proximity to the way points I set!
Review at 110 mins play time Extreme disappointment until they fix these issues with Tunnel vignette an snap turning. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Review at 3.2 hours play time Extreme Happy with this game by far. They fixed the issues that I was having with Tunnel vignette an snap turning with an option to turn it off and on. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Review at 7.8 hours play time (I am new to this game maybe some of the things I mention are supposed to be there) This game is exactly what I was looking for I really enjoy playing this game. Pretty much everything is right on with the new update I feel if I have anything to say it would be just what I would like. 1. I would like to be able to move up an down with out going into the menu. 2. Some times the level is taking some time it would be great to be able to save the game or check points. 3. If there was a map editor even as a DLC I my self would buy it without any issue. NOW ANYTHING I SAY FROM THIS POINT DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM HOW MUCH I LIKE THIS VR GAME. From what I see there are a few bugs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Review at 12.2 hours play time Well once again I was surprised, I wake up an seen I had a few notifications so I checked them out (Said update once again for (Warden of the isles) from Beardlings. Like Dev Said in message all the bugs I mention were found an fix an he also added in (Up an Down) onto the controller (AMAZING). What a difference that made for me not to have to go in the menu. Dev has set it just enough to see just far enough to make you think better go check it out. Once again Dev : Beardlings Great game Great updating (just getting better with every update). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Review at 12.3 hours play time Well I think its time for my end on review. If there is anything else like bugs ill go to Discussions page. What I think about this game. Graphics : I think it looks great in vr the Level that stood out was when there was fog gave it a creepy look an feel. Gameplay : I think the game play now after a few updates is great mainly the up an down option on controller. But love how you can pick enemies up an throw them it give some gratification. Everything just feels right and pretty easy to learn. Now with smooth turning makes it so much more realistic. Audio : Sound seemed to be right on get a laugh for the different saying they say when throwing them. All other sounds seem to be right on no issues. Difficulty : I really did not have to much issue with levels I have done not easy but not stressful very fun. Grind : I am pretty sure there is a bit of a grind but really do not notice because of how much fun this game has been. Story : I really do not see anything wrong with it so far so good interesting ready to hear more I like the narration. Price : Amazing I got on sale almost passed it up thought no just not going to be any good probably going to be like all the others. But nope this game just did it for me one of the best games I play now. I would say BUY IT you wont regret it even at full price this game is worth it. Bugs : There are some here an there but as you see with my review if you see one an mention it to the Dev they will be fixed in no time. But otherwise all bugs I have ran into are gone fixed with quick update. Rating : This game is a 10 for me for many different reasons I hope there is lots more to come. If there is anything I missed ill come back an update. Otherwise all others will be in Discussions (Awesome game) You can see the passion the Developer : Beardlings has for his game
wasn't sure what to expect ....found an awesome gem of a game! if you like classical RTS games like warcraft 1-3 you cant go wrong with that game. its really nice to finally play a good rts game in VR. works perfectly with index and knuckles. get it!
I have enjoyed this game. There is more to it than you may initially think. What lets it down a little is the movement mechanics. It would be nice to be able to move without teleporting, to move up and down quickly so that you can change your perspective, and shortcuts to move to specific places quickly. Also would be useful if you could specify formations for the units and behaviours such as ignoring enemies whilst en route to a destination.
its a ok game
OK it not that bad
Not exactly what I was looking for unfortunately. Personally I found the game to be a tad too slow for me, in addition to which I dont have a massive playspace which would make this better as you would be able to get around the map by moving physically rather than with the teleport offered. All in all I feel that the devs hav done a decent job of it, however it just isnt my style of game.
