About

Walkabout is a realistic digital twin of the Cockle Creek region in southern Tasmania, recreated using real‑world data with the goal of recreating a real place as faithfully as possible.
Cockle Creek is the southernmost drivable point in Australia. It is remote and quiet, surrounded by pristine beaches and dense rainforests, with unforgiving weather. It is a beautiful place and a harsh one. That makes it an ideal setting for a realistic survival experience.
The environment is your story.
Good luck staying alive.

Walkabout was built with accuracy to real life in mind. The following features were created using real‑world data and hand‑crafted reconstruction to match the Cockle Creek region as closely as possible:
Actual heightmap data used for the base landscape.
Accurate time and date simulation using the correct time zone and calendar.
Dynamic lighting based on real‑world intensity, exposure, and colour temperature values.
True sun position calculated from global coordinates, date, and time.
Seasonally‑influenced dynamic weather reflecting southern Tasmanian conditions.
Realistic ocean tides simulated using data from the Cockle Creek area.
Accurate Earth rotation represented in the sky system.
Hand‑sculpted rivers matching their real‑world paths.
Roads, walking trails, driveways, and 4WD tracks shaped to match their real‑world locations.
Native flora representing approximately 80% of the vegetation.
Native fauna representing 100% of the wildlife.
Additionally, Walkabout currently features:
Customisable UI colouring.
Full gamepad controller support with customisable keybinds.
Customisable keybinds for mouse and keyboard.
Language support for 15 different languages.

Walkabout takes place in a 7 km × 7 km recreation of a real Australian location. It’s a quiet, atmospheric survival experience where you explore the land, gather what you need, and try to stay alive in a place that doesn’t care whether you make it or not.
The wildlife won’t always warn you, the weather can turn without notice, and shelter becomes essential. You’ll build, craft, forage, and hunt iconic Australian animals when you need to. Survival depends on paying attention to your surroundings.

Wafflesoft is an independent Australian studio, and Walkabout is a solo project. This is my first game, built from the ground up with a focus on accuracy, atmosphere, and long‑term craft.
Maintaining independence allows me the creative freedom to make decisions purely to serve the best interest of Walkabout. Every part of Walkabout exists because it feels right for the experience I’m trying to create.

good game for a lil while but once you start looting for abit you get waaaaaay to much loot in form of ammo and not really that many things to shoot the crafting is easy but doesnt explain how to go about starting it really but its not to hard to figure out death is a sure thing when exploring one minuite your walking along an next insta death from sliding down something no story of any kind atm no reason why your there or how you got there let alone why whats happerning is happerining even after going through all that id still say its worth a play for a while i only hope it gets better with more things to actually do besides loot an shoot 6/10 in the current state
I'm fairly new to survival games, just shy of 2 years of playing things like Rust, Scum, Conan etc. This particular game needs some love in regards to mechanics AI: there's a lot.... for no gain. bandits leave you nothing but low on ammo and health. and there's the amount. not hard not fun but frustratingly annoying. resource gathering: animations are clunky and slow. almost a minute to take down a large tree or rock. ya i get the realismishism it just needs to be tightned up keybinds on mouse n keyboard it's either everthing on the left wasd qer h v c b z shift control and tab.... reaching over to get to i for inventory ya that's a booger and no way to change it in keybinds? building aspect. after spending an hour gathering resources i have a floor a wall and stairs.... that look like absolute garbage a player made structure is going to be massive which will in turn affect server performance. while it has issues it's also one of those particular games that has good to great potential so long as the developer listens to feedback. so it's clunky and a lot of false starts due to bandit population it's fun just not a lot of depth at the moment.

Pros: Fun game overall with a lot of potentials. I like the level up ability and the ability to upgrade housing. Non Cartoon mode makes the game look much better and the ability to change what you look like at random is awesome. Improvements: With the Above pros I found the game lacking in overall content. Within a few minutes of loading in, I was instantly bombarded with attacks and died several times trying to find a safe place to even begin to understand basic game mechanics. Once I was able to start crafting it didn't take me long at all to make end game items to put into my house. Hit boxes for stone and trees are off a lot and you have to be up on the object 100% to get a hit in half the time. The terrain has a lot of limitations when trying to find a suitable place to put a foundation down that is not blocked. Sound timing is off a bit and overly loud when trying to, for example, shoot a 9 mm gun it sounds as if the volume increased 500% and the hit box for animals is a bit off as well. I would start by making a few starter tasks to help new players understand basic mechanics and make sure the starting zone is not filled with bandits and animals that will kill new players and potentially make them not want to continue playing. And my final thought/idea would be to lose the cartoon mode.
Love the graphics (Seen in other's Game Play), however, I found it way too laggy and all movements disjointed for my ROG Gaming machine. If you don't have a grunty Graphics card then you won't be able to play this game, which is a real shame as there aren't enough Aussie & Southern Hemisphere themed games. Time to upgrade my graphics card I think.
