This game allows you to experience shogi in VR for the first time. It creates the illusion of a quiet dojo, surrounded by nature's beauty, as if you were transported straight into Japan. The board and pieces are impressive and as authentic as you can get in a video game. I also appreciate the correspondence mode, which allows two players to play a match without needing to be online at the same time, a thoughtful feature in my opinion. For those who love other board games besides shogi, there's an impressive variety to explore here, including rare and exotic games such as Chu Shogi and Gungi. The game runs seamlessly on Steam Link!
The UI is very intuitive. The game is fun and chill. Exactly what I need to unwind.
I've been enjoying the Quest version with a friend, and when I reached out to the developer, they generously provided a free key—talk about stellar support! The game offers a variety of classic board games, each rendered beautifully in VR. However, the controls can be a bit tricky at first. I recommend checking out the YouTube tutorial linked on the store page to get the hang of it. Overall, VRShogiMates is a commendable effort from a solo developer, bringing traditional board games into the VR space. While there are some hurdles to overcome, the experience is rewarding for those willing to invest the time.
Nagyon progresszív, mindenkinek ajánlom.
I started to play this game with my friends after playing the demo.
I've been playing shogi for 15+ years - happy to see it going digital. This game gives a new way to experience shogi.
Shogimates is not just a game, it’s an experience that captures the best of two legendary traditions and forges them into a masterpiece of modern gaming. Whether you're a chess enthusiast looking for an exciting twist or a board game lover seeking a new challenge, Shogimates delivers on all fronts. It’s innovative, visually stunning, and deeply satisfying.
Overall, definitely worth it if you like any (or all) of the chess-like board games. Pretty sweet that so many games are included. The real winner for me is that I can play a game of chess in real time with my brother who lives across the country! And for the Hunter x Hunter fans out there, I can play actual Gungi !! (for those not familiar, it’s a next-level multi-tiered chess/shogi strategy game). Correspondence mode (async playing) is also super sweet, since sometimes I don't have the time to sit down for a full game. Instead, I can send one move every day or two and play a game with friends over the course of a month. To be honest, it isn't the most polished game I've played, but then again, it's only six bucks so no prob there. Also, at first I thought the main menu / controls were dumb and difficult, but then I saw the detailed instructions panel and options, and realized that I was the one being dumb and difficult lol. There’s a bunch of content for people to actually learn how to play the different game types, so that's sweet. The more I've played around with the various games, the more cool little things I discover. While the appearance might not "Wow" you at first, the actual functionality of the game and possibilities it opens for chess, shogi, gungi, and the others (yes, there's more lol) is awesome and makes getting this app worth it IMHO.
Very promising game. Took some time to master the controls. There seems to be a lot of games modes and effort put into this game. I would recommend playing with a friend, though. I hope to see how it develops.
Great way to learn and play shogi. You can straight up play, learn with a learner mode and there are several other games in there including chess! If you've a friend with a pc (or meta) vr headset, seriously consider getting this of you're interested in any of the games!
