I'm aware of the mixed reviews for this application, but I have to say that I haven't encountered any of the issues that they mentioned. The video playback has been nothing short of stunning, and the Shark experience scared the living daylights out of me! Definitely recommended. Plus it's free, so worth a shot I'd say.

One of my favorite apps for VR. Such a large variety of content and everything I've watched so far has been very high quality. Every video I've watched has been in 360' which really makes you feel like you're there! I'm very impressed, especially for a free app.

I watched my first VR video with this app two years ago when I bought the Vive, my first HMD. Too sad to learn the app is now dead and the service has been abandoned. Steam should remove it from the store.

This is a video viewer especially for 360° Video. You don't have to worry about searching for content because it's all right here. I'm assuming that they just set up a camera just like the one on top of the google streetview car and use the multiple views to capture everything. Anyway, none of these videos are true 3D. Instead it's like sitting in the middle of a theater with a dome that the video is projected on. I watched some hot Asian girls dancing to some J-pop (or K-pop? I can't tell) on stage and to an extent it was like sitting on stage while they all danced around me. I saw another video where you were supposed to be on a roller coaster and It was ok... very low on the sensation of movement though. I watched a video about sharks and it was pretty impressive since you got a sense of the size and scale of the shark... And finally I watched a video where you were seated in a plane next to a pilot doing stunt maneuvers. Again, there wasn't any real 3D effect to these videos, and all the novelty was in being able to look in any direction and see what you would have seen from being there. Nothing new since the early 21st century where they started doing 360° Quicktime movies. You get more of a sense of motion from watching a SBS stereo vision movie on youtube. (google SBS video and you'll see what I mean). This is neat and all, but it seems like there's considerable distortion at the edges. It's neat to see the videos though. Oh and I nearly forgot. All of these videos are streaming from the internet but there's an option to download them for later viewing as well. That's pretty handy. Actually, some of the videos ARE in 3D but the majority are not. Also upsetting is the fact that the lighthouse base stations remain visible throughout most of the videos and that kills some of the immersion. Unless you're close to a chaparone bound you shouldn't see those base stations EVER.

Vrideo is a VR video player. It worked to a point, does not play, looked ok, sounded ok. Puts you in a VR viewing room then pops up a sign saying There is no Network Access and Retry button, press button, does nothing. Looking in the forum, found threads saying this program is abandonware. Do Not bother to download this program. Please fill out a flag report to Valve that this program is Broken.

Vrideo is a very poorly optimized piece of software with a lot of issues. From downloading videos to playback, not one element of this app is a smooth experience. The second time I booted the app my computer crashed entirely. And this was just navigating the menus. I run an i7 4770k with a GTX 980, and it can't seem to handle the menus. Steer clear.
