VR RHYTHM ACTION SEIYA is not your average rhythm game where you just keep beat with the song -- it's a virtual reality music game where you can actually play the melody.Punch the melody into existence by hitting the lyrics and stars flying at you to the beat of the music on your own personal grand stage!
Fun game but there were only two songs available so I ended up refunding it.
Disclaimer: got it in the Indiegala bundle. Had i bought it for full price it would be refund material and a much worse review. Played on Oculus Rift. Launched both in vanilla steam VR and Oculus mode. The game is barely passable on presentation; the usual engrish menu and the lawnmower man laser aesthetic 80% of VR games go for, but it's functional for what it has to do. There seems to be a decent amount of content between the readily available songs and unlockables. Problem is, after ten minutes it's already clear i'm not going to bother, for one simple reason: the song charting is TERRIBLE. If you call your game a Rhythm game (it's in the damn title!), i expect to play following the rhythm of the song. Except the notes here are all over the place, the charts looks made from someone with no sense of music at all (if you played custom songs on Beat Saber or Stepmania or whatever, think of the terrible ones). So no, flailing my arms following only visual cues ain't my idea of a good time.
Enjoyable rhythm game. Jpop music is fine, even though I'm not really into this type of music. It gives a good bit of exercise. Lots of objects to hit even on the lowest (normal) setting. Will probably keep playing this for a bit of workout.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
So I only played 15 minutes, but I'm pretty sure I can give a fair review (at least on normal mode). I did not try the higher difficulties. Here's what I can say: this game is a workout. And that's mostly the reason I stopped playing is because I was starting to sweat. Is it fun? Well, look at the store page video. Would you enjoy listening to that music? If you don't, don't buy this game. It's really that simple. I fall in the category of not enjoying this type of music. Why did I buy it then? I got it in a bundle, thanks for asking. Is the gameplay fun enough to disregard the music? No. Airtone probably does it better. However, this game is simpler. It's easier to get a workout as well. The punching / slashing is to the beat of the music, which is usually pretty fast. You'll be punching a lot. The harder you punch/slash the more points you get. The slashing and punching mode honestly aren't that different, other than slashing mode has less songs for some strange reason. I was able to play seated without any problems. There's only one stage. Songs only change the main screen, which is usually just a still shot, although some have a full video. The notes that fly by you do change up so at least it always has some graphical variance. However, the differences don't change up the gameplay ... it's just constant punching. Most of the menu is in Japanese and the english voices are pretty bad. I didn't see a leaderboard or maybe it was because it was all Japanese to me (and yes, I did change language to English). Rate 4/10. If you love this music, it's probably a 7/10. But since I hate the music, it's a 4/10.
Junk game.
