fun little game. with more development and additional features it could be really good. $5 price tag is not out of line
Pros:

Actually fun
Nice variety of non-traditional lanes to rotate through
Physics feel realistic
Music and sound effects are pleasant and/or non-offensive to the ears
Environments are not overwhelming or unpleasant
Bad throws in certain gametypes allow mulligans
Has local multiplayer(up to 4 friends)
Cons:

Teleporting is awkward and somewhat jarring on Rift by having to click thumbstick(Devs have acknowledged this in Steam Discussions)
Stiff rotation(Could be adjusted to with time. Not too much of a con, as this is being implemented in more games and even Oculus’ new home environments)
Picking up ball from the return manually on some lanes makes for confusing and/or frustrating adjustments through teleporting and IRL, breaking up the flow of gameplay at some points
Environments are simplistic, flat, and uninspiring. They are novel in that the wow factor wears off once you’ve seen them a couple times. If anything, they lack cohesion(Visually jarring to see moving parts not attached to anything, plain rectangle rooms encompassing the uniquely designed lanes)
Music fades in and out between different lanes/rooms, which makes for awkward peaks and valleys in the pace of playing.
Multiplayer(haven’t tested) would be a pain to switch between multiple people on the same headset unless each person is playing an entire 10 frame game at a time
Mulligans aren’t explicitly obvious when the announcer simply says “Bad throw”
Suggestions:

Magnetic ball grabbing from the return to avoid unnecessary player adjustment. This is especially important for those in smaller spaces.
Redesign main room to look more polished(Kind of looks like extra room in a house converted for physical activity)
Create a more immersive in-game atmosphere besides the abstract-esque “convenient dev test” look currently in place.
What I’d like to see:

Neon/glow-in-the-dark bowling
Low-light settings(Something cozy and/or intimate)
More locations(Realistic or otherwise)
Themes for settings, balls, pins, etc…
Novelties or unique skins for the balls and pins
Challenges(Fun and technical)
I’m really hoping this game gets more fleshed out as time goes on. At the time of this review, the game feels like it’s more in alpha with the “Hello World” dev test layouts, placeholder fonts and textures that make up for what it is now, despite JUST coming out of early access. If the design, look and feel of the game is brought up to an immersive standard, it could very well be the best bowling VR experience the world offers today. You can tell from the get-go that it wants to break tradition with its unique lanes that force you to approach them in new and fun ways. Not to mention there’s something really satisfying about having the ability to set pins to zero gravity, and watch them fly all over the room when they’re hit by a ball that had to go through loop-de-loops and around bends to reach them. I’m giving the game a thumbs up. A couple of these issues can be remedied by having a large enough play area to experience this game at its fullest, which I currently do not. It would be unfair of me to hold that against the game when I decided to splurge on a $400 headset that explicitly requires a certain amount of room. The rest of the issues can be dealt with in time if the game devs are dedicated to making this more than what it is now. This game is a lot of fun, even if you only play it for a small amount of time.

VR Mini Bowling, developed and published by Brian Macumber, is a compact and approachable virtual reality sports experience that takes the familiar act of bowling and reshapes it into something lighter, more playful, and distinctly VR-focused. Rather than striving for strict realism or competitive simulation, the game positions itself as a relaxed alternative that emphasizes creativity, accessibility, and tactile fun. From the moment you step into its virtual lanes, it becomes clear that VR Mini Bowling is less about recreating a real-world bowling alley and more about using VR as a space for experimentation and casual enjoyment. The core gameplay revolves around intuitive motion-based bowling mechanics that feel natural in virtual reality. Throwing the ball relies on your physical movement, with speed, angle, and spin responding directly to how you release it. While the physics are not as granular or demanding as in hardcore bowling simulators, they strike a satisfying balance between responsiveness and forgiveness. This makes the game especially welcoming for newcomers to VR, as it allows players to focus on the fun of rolling the ball rather than mastering complex techniques. The sense of presence—watching the ball travel down the lane and react to your motion—remains consistently engaging, even across repeated sessions. What truly differentiates VR Mini Bowling from more traditional bowling games is its mini-golf-inspired lane design. Courses are often curved, elevated, or segmented in ways that encourage creative shots and unconventional strategies. Instead of simply lining up for a straight roll, players are prompted to think about angles, rebounds, and momentum. This twist transforms bowling into a light puzzle experience, where experimentation is rewarded and unexpected successes are part of the charm. The lanes themselves become playful challenges rather than static environments, helping the game avoid feeling repetitive despite its relatively modest content scope. The game offers several play modes that subtly shift the focus of each session. Traditional scoring caters to players who want a recognizable bowling framework, while alternative modes like timed or stroke-based play encourage efficiency and quick thinking. Local multiplayer support allows multiple players to take turns within the same VR setup, turning the experience into a social activity well-suited for gatherings or casual competition. Leaderboards and score tracking add a gentle sense of progression, motivating players to refine their technique without introducing pressure or grind. Customization options, while not extensive, add a layer of personal expression. Players can unlock and select different bowling balls, adjust visual elements such as lighting and pin colors, and tailor the presentation to their liking. These choices don’t drastically alter gameplay, but they reinforce the game’s relaxed, player-friendly tone. Everything feels designed to reduce friction and keep players immersed rather than distracted by menus or overly complex systems. Visually, VR Mini Bowling favors clarity and simplicity over realism. Environments are clean and readable, ensuring that players can easily judge distances and angles in VR. This practical approach works well for comfort, minimizing visual clutter and helping maintain stable performance across headsets. Sound design complements the visuals with crisp audio cues that reinforce successful throws and pin collisions, adding to the tactile satisfaction without overwhelming the senses. Ultimately, VR Mini Bowling succeeds by understanding its niche. It doesn’t aim to be a definitive bowling simulator or a long-form VR epic, but rather a friendly, pick-up-and-play experience that showcases how virtual reality can make simple activities feel fresh. Its strength lies in approachability, creativity, and the joy of physical interaction. For VR players looking for a casual sports title that’s easy to enjoy in short bursts—either solo or with friends—it offers a charming and low-pressure way to step into a virtual lane and roll a few satisfying frames. Kids love it
You take the ball, you roll the ball, you hit the pins. what more could you want?
Love this game. Very cool to see new VR players play this game and marvel its creativity. I have the WR for Time Rush lane 1. Dont even THINK about beating it.
This game is really bad. I would not recommend this because it is really buggy, laggy, and other problems. Please fix but now this game just sucks and i would not spend the money.
It is simple but well made and entertaining game. Bowling meets minigolf (though there is also standard bowling lane mode). I think you don't need to be good in real bowling to have a fun here, most lanes are much shorter and it is more about obstacles and geometry. There are 3 sets of tracks (3x10) + 1 standard lane (4th "set"). Each of them can be played in three deifferent game modes, all of them are interesting. And for the price it is amazingly good deal.
+Fun +Interesting Idea (I'm shocked no one ever thought of Mini-Bowling before) +Decently executed +Price for content +Local Multiplayer -Extremely bad physics -Bowling feels really faked -Rainbow effect is way overused. 3/5 While not perfect, VR Mini-Bowling is a great little local coop game that has quite the potential to be a decent party game. The graphics are meh, sound effects are meh, and music is okay, but the overall gameplay experience is fairly good despite the flaws.
