I love the graphical style of this game. The sound design is also really nice with the weapons and the bassy explosions. But these positives are far outnumbered by the negatives for me: Gameplay: - If you are frustrated easily, avoid this game like the plague. It isn't for you. - If you prefer less strategic SHMUPS (think Raiden or Sky Force) then also avoid this game because there is no instant gratification in this game. - It is brutally difficult, which becomes demoralising after dying 20 times just trying to understand what to do in a level. - I seem to be stuck on Level 2 (after the escort mission) and just can't progress. - Enemy waves don't seem to have breaks in fire patterns. You need to play a level a few times and know what types of attack patterns you are facing so you can "buy" upgrades in the hangar. You won't get many of them so it's not a sure-fire fix. Interface: - The controller mappings shown in the Controls page don't seem to map at all to the XBox control. For example, the control overlay suggests that the [X] button is supposed to fire and [A] is for missiles. But those don't work at all in the game (the triggers are what control these. - Not being able to remap controller buttons is turning me off the game. - Having to use the mouse to control level select stuff is annoying. Conclusion: Unfortunately I'm writing this review just before uninstalling the game in frustration. It just isn't fun to be punished over and over again in a game with no real sense of forward progression. There must be a better way to help new players understand what they need to do in the game so they can progress. I just can't work it out.
The game is just not good. Visually looks like some effort was put in, but it also feels like the entire game might actually just be a high quality asset flip stitched together. The level design and all of the mechanics are just ass. The bosses are copy pasted at the end of every stage, the levels are trivially easy aside from annoying ass instakill collisions. There is a half assed currency/ammo system where at the end of every stage you can use the points you earned to buy ammo for various guns, but you always finish a stage with enough currency to literally buy the max ammo of everything, so its pointless. The level design is just overall repetitive and annoying. The music is actually so bad it hurts. The game likes to randomly just stop detecting controller inputs if you move your mouse or touch your keyboard sometimes. There are consumable shields you can pick up in the game, you are supposed to be able to pick them up like ammo for a weapon and use them when you need them. But the game literally just activates the shields as soon as you pick them up for no apparent reason.
It says three hours, but I've played longer than that, probably in menu, or 'death," games don't count. No problem at all, just to say. To the review: Firstly, for this type or game the grpahics are great, but the important thing is that it runs, super smooth at 165fps, all maxed on my 170fps monitor. (I limit to 165). Visually - grade A. The sound, with headphones the explosions have a very pleasant thump!!, if you like base. Sound grade A. Game play. Difficult for me to give a relevant comment because I am 55, and literally also I notice I'm much worse than when I say 45 or below...how sad. So every shooter is tough for me. This one is toulgh for me, probably the difficulty levels represent well the difficulty for you young guys! (Anyone under 45, ha.) Haven't played the just released update yet, but sounds good. (may make it easier for me). I need a very easy mode, but that's not to do with this review. Overall, a good fun game that doesn;t get boring. I like it a lot. If I were younger I would love it!! Worth the money, no tech issues. No problems at all really. (Except for my arthrictic fingers and slowing brain - but that's my problem) Recommend buy if you like this genre.
Jednak sam gameplay pozostawia wiele do życzenia. Wiadomo, lecimy stateczkiem i strzelamy do wszystkiego, co strzela do nas. Fajnie, tylko my mamy podstawowe słabe działko a wrogowie bogaty arsenał. Bez sensu. Ponadto poziomy trudności nie są wyważone. Można się na pojedynczych na dłużej zaciąć. A niektóre przechodzimy z marszu. 4/10
Nice shoot'em up, like the olds ones, but really hard (yes, like the old ones). I can't finish the level 7 (on 10 levels). But the game is good, and I especially like the backgrounds that are wonderful!
Just starting out on this game, having spent countless hours as a youth on top down shooters with friends in the arcades this most definitely hits the spot. The look of the game is beautiful the feel and flow is definitely worth it.
Creator of idea and game was influenced by jets n guns. One my favorites which was influenced by an old school apogee release :), I'll leave that for those who know. Regardless, he's keeping up with community requests and game was not my cup of tea, DUE TO CONTROLS but that all changed with updates. Highly recommend this nostalgia feel good shooter.
The nostalgia portal is open. God, how I adore this genre. I could play such games for hours in childhood on a console or phone. And this game perfectly conveyed the vibe. The gameplay is maximally simple and familiar to everyone - we fly forward and shoot enemies. Also we need to dodge their bullets and flying obstacles. And at the end, we destroy a huge boss. Even though decades have passed, the game feels fresh and very engaging. If you love this genre, give it a try.
